Lakers fire Darvin Ham, is Brunson a superstar, Joel Embiid's legacy | NBA | FIRST THINGS FIRST

Спорт

Nick Wright, Chris Broussard and Kevin Wildes react to the Los Angeles Lakers firing Darvin Ham after two seasons as the team's head coach, then debate whether it is officially time to label Jalen Brunson as a superstar. The trio then discusses how this playoff series loss to the New York Knicks impacts Joel Embiid's legacy.

The roster was bad but still could've won with AD and LeBron because Dinwiddie Vincent and woods all were way better everywhere else they played but with ham that's proof his system was horrible plus even with not scoring he put 2 defensive liabilities at the guards spots no coach in history does that with both guards can't stop the ball at all horrible coaching

Just from watching Laker games it was quite apparent that Ham didn't know how to make in game adjustments and seemingly was unable to call time outs when they needed them. Not saying he was the only reason, but he was a big part of it. Sooo many big leads blown and close losses that could have been saved by just stopping the bleeding with a time out. He was just not experienced enough.

@@tculture8938 D Lo yes it's like his 9 year, we know what he is but I think he has to opt in to be traded. Reaves is only on like his 3rd year, still has a high ceiling. Would like to see Reaves under a better coach. Sorry to say it but since Bron wants to leave anyway to play with his son, maybe trade him for whatever assets we can get.

Yes, Chris Broussard comes off here as just pushing his agenda staunchly defending Darvin Ham and only promoting Sam Cassell or Ty Lue who isn't realistic. The front office has also backed Ham to the dismay of some of the players and LakersNation when they were already calling to replace him last season and midway through this season. Darvin isn't a bad guy and it's not personal against him but it was evident he wasn't ready from an X's and O's standpoint, rotation merry-go-round, timeout/challenge management, etc. He was praised as a relatable motivator but unfortunately he still ended up losing the leaders of the locker-room.

You're referring to the season before where they 'upset' the #3 seed Nuggets and nearly upset the Spurs (lost in OT in Gm1 in SA and won Gm2 in SA).. Jackson was running sets from the 90s.. Kerr came in and modernized the offense overnight essentially (he recognized Curry's gravity) and they started their title runs.. Yet we are allowed to hate on doc rivers for blowing leads and not making adjustments? It’s obviously not all Hams fault but if you watched those series you know he could’ve done a better job. It took him until about game 3 to start matching AD’s minutes with Jokic’s, would let the team play through the nuggets runs without calling timeouts to allow them to mentally reset and gather their heads. If a team is mentally weak 9/10 it’s on the coaching staff for not properly managing their players. LeBron and AD showed up every game and Ham should have had a game plan to get the role players involved more so that way the didn’t lay eggs in over half the games.

The Brunson take is insane. Yes he’s a superstar. Having no second option majority of the season being a 2 seed averaging 28 ppg. Winning playoff series vs a great team averaging 36 and 9 yes he’s a superstar bro. What else do you want from him??? Maybe he has to win next series with a hand behind his back too. If Anthony Edwards is in how isn’t Brunson HUH😭

28 points per game is rookie numbers in today's league. And Maxey averaged more in the series. If Nick says there's 12 players in the club superstar, then that means that number is way too high.
