Lake Speed Jr. talks about oil

Chris ruminated over his paint-soaked Tracker carpet issue & Ray mused over Fiat's selection of clutch cable adjusting hardware. Then, joined by Lake Speed Jr. the show got wings and took off into the unchartered territories of oil technology. Terms like zinc, calcium, phosphorous and viscosity were tossed around like projectiles at a beer pong party. Lake covered all the hard topics and passed on some excellent recommendations we can all use.

Hey lake love your videos!!! Ive been jsing penzoil ultra platinum in my lexus gx460 for 2 reasons. 1 being the tests ive seen on it were phenomenal and 2 because lexus used it when they were doing oil changes. My question for you is im getting into higher milage now (150k) should i change to a high milage oil, keep using the ultra platinum, or do you have something you recommend that might be better. I live in NH so we have a true 4 seasons if that helps you decide if the standard weight is sufficient as well.

Lake agreed with Ray that Golden Spectro oil is a great choice for motorcycle use since its specifically formulated for those engines.

Lake, great show! I am a long time friend of Ray G and regular listener to the show. They probably could have gone 3 hours today without blinking. I tried to call in but guess they weren’t taking calls. I found your comment on shelf life for oil very interesting. Climate controlled is certainly favorable as is with most things. I just recently purchased boxed oil (Mobil-1 5w30) to do a change in my LS2 C6. I want to know if the box oil will store any better or worse (it’s good for boxed wine 🤪)? Given the cost to purchase 12qts for slightly higher than 5qts and getting almost 2 changes it made sense. I drive the C6 less than 3k a year and usually do a late spring/early summer change and I would love to get your thoughts. I am a new subscriber and will hope to have some rainy days to a blizzard so I can binge listen to your channel 👍

Lake mentioned that oil in plastic containers WILL absorb some moisture over time so its a good idea to keep it in the house where it's in a more climate controlled environment. As a general rule, oil will stay fresh for 3-5 years in storage.
