A 2.5 hour drive from Queenstown or 30 minutes from Lake Tekapo Village, Lake Pukaki is the largest lake in the Mackenzie District covering 178 sq kms along the northern edge of the Mackenzie basin under the magnificent presence of New Zealand’s highest mountain Aoraki/Mount Cook. Glacial fed, its waters are turquoise blue caused by ‘glacial flour’ particles suspended in the water. Mt. Cook Alpine Salmon Shop is inside this visitor centre. High country salmon farm is on the road near Twizel. You will enjoy the best Salmon in the world. It's from the glacier water!!
