Lake Louise Skating November 2020

Lake Louise in Alberta's Banff National Park froze on Nov. 9, so climbers and skiers dropped everything to get first tracks. At the far end is a famous ice climb, Louise Falls WI4, so Gripped editor Brandon Pullan went to see if it was formend. In this, he goes from Chateau Lake Louise to where the skate-able ice ends. "Some of the best skating conditions I've had in my 35 years on ice," he said. It was about 800 metres of smooth, fresh Canadian ice. The ice climb was not yet formed.

Hey Mark, it was in November. Our editor filmed it and uploaded it on Nov. 9. Full story here: gripped.com/gripped-outdoors/adventures-with-b-lake-louise-skating-and-backcountry-skate-tips/ The NHL shared a photo from Paul Zizka here: instagram.com/p/CHdh2x2pJqn/ There are hundreds of images on social media from Nov. 8 to Nov. 12 of people skating on it until it snowed. Cheers!
