Lagan Junction to Yorkgate Track Renewal Project
The Lagan Junction - Yorkgate Station Renewal Project is a £30 million investment into the modernisation of Belfast area rail line.
The main construction works will see an upgrade and refurbishment of the line and signalling between Lagan Junction and Yorkgate train station. This is the second phase of the Central Area Track Renewals Project - the first phase was completed successfully early 2021.
Works are starting at the end of October, with compounds established already.
Please watch back our recent webinar held for residents and stakeholders, updating on the timeline and project benefits.

Still no electrification
I feel like the Dargan bridge being a double track would be a beneficial improvement for rail travel as the bottleneck it creates is quite pointless. Also, instead of a bus substitution, wouldn't it be smarter to use the Knockmore line to divert trains headed to GVS from Coleraine?

Trains run to and from Coleraine every hour, and you can only get a maximum of one train each way every hour and a half between Antrim and Lisburn, so you need buses anyway

It's true about Dargan Bridge being better if it were double track, but there's no sign of DfI providing the funding to put that right

@@AndyBoal Well the Belfast City Council has asked the DFI to undertake cost and feasibility studies into the CircleLine, whihc would need the Dargan to be doubled to be built so fingers crossed.

@@Squareheed Circle line is a logistical impossibility even if you double Lagan Junction-Antrim and Antrim-Lisburn. Where are the local trains to Larne and Portadown supposed to fit in, let alone the long distance trains to Dublin and Derry?

@@Squareheed or do we want the Enterprise to run at a maximum 30mph, just as it does behind the DART in Dublin which we shouldn't be accepting either
