Laerdal 2020 - Dancing with the Beautiful Queen of Rivers

Luck on “The Queen”, good conditions and a better run of fish than last year’s poor run. Three great days with hard battles in high and powerful water - three days to remember!

Frodin should be the example everyone should look to re catch and release. There’s something about fresh fish that cannot stand to be overplayed and taken out of the water. I think it’s the immediate change from salt to freshwater but seriously this is how it’s done.

Just wanted to add a note for fisherman from outside Norway, go there! I cut my teeth in Scotland and then fished the Sjordal , Namsen, and Laerdal , fabulous. But also there is another thing, the Russians only recently started fly fishing , the Norwegians have a fly fishing culture and tradition that North American’s, and people from the commonwealth countries would be completely at home with. Not only are they excellent fly fisherman and women, they are happy to share their knowledge which when you are an outsider is invaluable, you don’t have time to find out about a rivers character in the short time you are there. I thoroughly recommend a trip to Norway. But remember, protect the salmon shut down the sea farms.

your water is so clear during high water, in scotland our water would be brown and dirty in those conditions, only when the river has dropped and run off then it starts to clear!

That is because norwegian soils are mostly glacial deposits like moraines and gravel and not too much of humus that is colouring the water

I love everything Mikael does for salmon fishing. I’d like to know what Mikael think about treble hooks and releasing the salmon...personally i switched to single hooks several years ago...keep up the great work Mikael.

Only thing wrong with salmon fishing its a sport for rich people..... More cash = more fishing skill. And the rivers shoud be owned by the state.

agree and disagree... Here in canada its so great i can just fish almost any river!! but when you allow everyone to fish basically endangered species it can be quite harsh. On east coast some rivers get 2000 atlantic thousand salmon. on west coast steelhead are often small runs to..There were 62 Thompson and 134 Chilcotin fish counted this year.. This is INSANELY BAD. The thompson was once a legendary river like the EM or tay for steelhead.. These runs could easily devesated by so many people catching and mishandling fish.. Im not saying the rich are better at handling,, just When so few salmon fisherman on river there is less caught.... Otherwise yes pay to 2000$ or so to fish or hunt is awful

@@MichaelPhillips-jw4bj Its plain stupid, but not long now, and we will have zero wild salmons left. The fish farmers will take care of it. Local people shoud be the ones to fish salmon, not rich turist!
