If one notices, Vhagar does not completely set Laena ablaze as she would an enemy. She only delivers enough flames to do the job. That's loyalty. She does not want to destroy her rider. She only wants to serve her, by honoring her last plea. Poignant and powerful scene.

Vhagar loved Laena, as all dragons love who they bond with. As someone who's been through so much, Vhagar looked so sad yet knew what she had to do for the one she loved.

Vhagar had waited a long time without a Worthy Rider of Herself choosing for so Long. Vhagar actually almost had tears in Her eyes before being asked/commanded to kill her Dragon Rider.

I was impressed at the dragon's reactions/hesitations to her and finally that sweet, sorrowful wink when he realised she was serious... That was the finest display of a dragon's emotions so far... I do not recall if he released a cry of lament like Drogon did for Danaerys... Now that would have been a nice touch...

Vhagar is one of the Oldest She Dragons/Dragons known whom had lived so many years and seen so many dragons produced from herself and dragon Riders riding her. It had been a long time since she had found another Dragon Rider, a very long time in our years. So after she was commanded to burn her Mistress she hesitated, and you can feel the sorrow and pain when she let loose that fire upon Laena's command to relinquish Laena's life. She was going through a mood you can almost see the tears in her eyes 👀, 😭

Maybe more than just sympathy... He realised what the thirst for power had turned Danaerys into... Hence why he chose to destroy the Iron Throne instead... Drogon understood it better than most humans in Westeros...that power corrupts... and the throne, the coveted by all throne, was the very symbol of that...

Then again many believe the dragon riders and skin changers are soul bonded to their animals and live through them after their human death. If that's the case it was Daenerys sparing Jon

@@slanphere not really 🤷🏻‍♀️ her show version wasn’t done justice compared to the books. In the books, Rhaenyra, Laena and Daemon were all close. The show diminished her character so that they could push Rhaenyra and Daemon, plus her daughters are pretty important in the future so 🤷🏻‍♀️ doubt I’ll be forgetting her anytime soon

just remember that laena loved vahgar from childhood, while aemond just needed a powerful dragon to show off.

Her death scene is so heartbreaking. It made me tear up the first time I saw it

Perfect song choice for her. I could not agree with you more, I would have loved to have seen more of her.

I know she was not a major character in the books, but I instantly liked her character when all she really wanted to talk about with the KING of Westeros and someone being pushed on her as a future husband...was dragons and how cool they are. My favorite character of the series so far and too few scenes, but in the ones she had, she made an impact.

Poor Laena 🥺, her cervix muscles must’ve weakened after giving birth to the twins. I’m surprised that in that time era, they didn’t use lubricant(oil/grease)and tongs or a puller that is used on cows giving birth to calves. Then the story could’ve continued to go along according with the book, Fire and Blood, making her child born as a stillborn and her dying from sickness after childbirth and instead of wanting to die in a bed, she prefer a “dragon rider’s death” and attempts to do so by going to Vhagar but she never makes it. Hell, they didn’t even expand on the kinship between her and Rhynera.

Yeah would've been better if they'd shown at least 2 seconds of Daemon running around the mansion searching for her and seeing her outside and picking up pace and running towards her... For one moment make it seem like he'd reach her, since Vhagar hadn't been responding but have that moment of peace snatched away from us by Vhagar burning her at the last minute. That could've made it so much more powerful. And maybe if Laena gave one last glance to Daemon or even just turned back to see him running to her, that we could've been free to interpret as she really did love him even if he did not fully. She gave up her home for him, gave him two beautiful daughters and 10 years of a stable, happy marriage (bcz let's face it, Daemon and Rhaenyra's marriage would never be peaceful thanks to her station, and his presence a constant threat to the Hightowers and ofc viceversa)

They’re giving us key moments but rushing the human relationships. I hope they have it all laid out because if they haven’t then the pacing is fucked.

It isn’t really rushed. The show is about the Targaryen house. It will go beyond Vicerys, Alicent, Rhaenyra, Daemon, etc. I think people are missing that. It is just laying the ground work for the stories that come after them.

I wanted to see more of her.

They need to bring her back in a flashback.

She was gone way too soon in the story. What a great character to have died. And then that wimpy prince gets Vahgar instead of one of her daughters. Pretty pissed off about that one.

She is more of a manipulative b*tch like Cersei. *Otto:* Dubbed Middlefinger and a rival to Daemon. One of the most hated characters in the Dance and in ASOIAF lore. The one who helped started this whole mess by pimping his daughter to the king and ratting out Daemyra. *Larys:* Probably the worst character in the series just in terms of morals and ethics. We just witnessed him hiring prisoners to kill his father and brother without any remorse. *Aegon* *II:* We're already seeing what a d*uchebag he'll turn out to be by going full Homelander. Imagine if Bran witnessed this instead of Jaime and Cersei? For sure Bran would stop climbing up walls thinking he's Spider-Man. Be blinded by Aegon's "Splatoon". *Aemond:* The only bad-ss from the Greens but also a bigger d*uche than his uncle. Escalated a war. Drew first blood. Or they may not show one of the kid's dragons or Vermithor or Silverwing by excluding Hugh 🔨 or Ulf. So far, we didn't see Daeron. If he's excluded, then there would be no Tessarion. I believe being a mother was not more important than her identity. Leana was the kind of badass woman, graceful yet fierce, kind yet prideful. Being a rider was part of her soul, it was her identity, I perceive it as her living to her own character. She just did not want to live a life she did not want, even if it meant leaving her children behind, and as tragic as it is, I think it’s a death worthy of her, and her teachings to her girls.
