This time lapse video shows a ladybug larva pupating, then the adult ladybug emerging from the pupa. The ladybug's "shell" is completely white at first. Once it's emerged, the ladybug's wings expand for the first time. Over the next few days its color and spots develop. For the first day, it never left the empty pupa. Then it got more restless, and started flying on its third day. This is an Asian ladybug. With 5,000 species of ladybug, there's a lot of variation in coloration and spots - in the larva, pupa, and adult.

I kept on seeing these little things not knowing what they were and thinking maybe they were some invasive species but then I finally decided to look it up and lo and behold. Never would have guessed

Thanks for telling us how many days between everything, most of the time lapse videos don't give that info. I have a jasmine that runs down my fence between my house and my neighbor's house and it is COVERED in ladybug pupas! I almost had a heart attack when I saw them, I thought they were a parasite but was so excited to find out they're ladybugs!! Loved this video, thanks!

I used an old consumer camcorder that’s not made anymore, with a Raynox DCR-250 macro lens attached to it.
Ladybugs start their lives as little Sweet Peas.
