Lady was completely shut down and had given up on life | The Asher House
The most incredible transformation I've ever seen. All she needed was a chance. I wouldn't have believed it if I didn't witness it with my own eyes.

Finding herself in a home full of happy & friendly dogs, who trust the big human, must have made a huge difference to her. She saw how they were around Lee & decided he was safe

We have a rescue, Aussie/BC mix, who came out of a hoarding situation @ 5 years old. She was fearful & shut-down like this also, according to her foster. The foster had 3 dogs + also a doggy daycare. Yes, the other dogs helped this hoarder girl become comfortable, learn to be a real dog, and start to trust the foster. The other dogs truly do help the fearful dogs to learn & trust more. (Our little rescue is pretty much the boss of the home now, and enjoys her status, entirely!)

I had to come back to this video now, months later, because I wanted to remind myself of Lady's first days at the sanctuary. Last week, Lee said that due to the mysterious pneumonia strain contracted by some dogs in Oregon, Lady had 20% of her lung removed. Sending special prayers for this beautiful Lady ♡

What is your problem Julia?
May the House of Asher stand forever.
She made progress so quickly because she had no fear of other dogs, it was people she was afraid of. To be surrounded by other happy dogs made her feel safe.
Years ago, after surviving a trauma, I was basically a “shut down lady who had given up on life”. After a year of wallowing in grief I started working with refugees overseas, and when I returned to the states, I started fostering as I had a lifetime of experience of dogs. Volunteering in foster showed me that animals that have been neglected or abused can come back, and therefore I can. It wasn’t that I/we healed the dogs… It was that the dogs healed me!❤ 🐾

What she witnessed was a pack of happy dogs; dogs who had no fear, and that fact caused her to not fear. At a shelter fear is in the air. She witnessed ogs enjoying their life to the fullest, and then she witnessed who their pack leader was and knew she too could trust him 100%. She looked so happy romping around the dogs. What a glorious thing to witness. I would have loved to be in the room with the shelter workers when they watched the video.

That's an insightful comment - "at a shelter, fear is in the air'. It explains a lot about why dogs are often reactive when they first come out after all the panic, anxiety, and lonely barking and seeing some dogs get taken out while others remain. I am so happy i got a rescue dog and gave him time to find calmness outside and around other dogs altho he has always been calm in the home and slept on my bed since the first night.😍🥰

I have seen so many videos. It seems to me like when there are packs of dogs at a sanctuary, a dog like Lady is happy and relaxed right away. We see it when there are 2 other dogs but every time when there is a pack. I wonder if the dog thinks well this is a good guy because he likes dogs and these dogs are happy so I can be happy too. My other thought is that it goes deeper than that. So I wonder if dogs have some language amongst themselves where they tell this dog she will be ok and this is a good guy?
There is no better healing power than love and a harmonious pack! Lovely to see her being a dog again!

Absolutely beautiful! That poor girl needed love and patience, and you gave just that. Bravo! So awesome.
I had this same experience with my dog Bella. I adopted her at 5-months old and she was so afraid of everyone except for ONE lady at the rescue. She had been surrendered twice in her short life, both times because "she has no manners or self-control and she's destructive." I adopted her, held her paw and sang to her the whole drive home and now we're inseparable. I can relate to Lady so much, and I KNOW she's exactly where she needs to be. You're an angel, Lee. Lady is a true beauty. Her eyes told so many horrific tales when you first met her but after a few days with you and the pack you could see such a difference. She came alive !!!!
This poor, sweet little soul. Whoever damaged this baby needs to be damaged in the same way.
That poor sweet angel was clearly seriously abused by someone. It’s heartbreaking to see her fear and obvious signs of trauma. It was so wonderful to see that once you gave her control of her environment, she was then willing to come out of her safe space and slowly explore. Lee, I am constantly amazed with how in tune you are with what each dog needs to feel safe and loved. This understanding is especially true for dogs like Lady, who have been harmed and traumatized in her life BL (before Lee), and she can now learn what it is to be a beloved member of the Asher family AL (after Lee). ❤😊❤
WHO would hurt this precious girl?!?!?!?! Whoever did that to her deserves the worse, most horrible punishment possible!!!! How can ANYONE look into those eyes and want to hurt her? Some people are just monsters! THANK GOD for Lee and his pack that they can help her feel happy and safe 🥰

I hear you! This the one thing that really bothers me about humans..that there are people that are capable of cruelty to animals..We must stamp this out with laws, education and speaking up!
it’s your positive energy that overcomes fear and Lady is a beautiful example of this
It just breaks your heart, but hope knowing she's in the right place with the right person.
I believe that Lady responded to your energy, even when still so skittish, because she’s not only super smart, but she can read nothing but love in you. When she meets the dogs and understands how THEY trust you, it helps her release that fear so much more quickly. She’s going to have such an amazing life and deserves every bit of it! ❤️❤️❤️
This one, this one right here should be used across the country at all shelters and sanctuary's as a learning tool. The transformation that took place is ONLY because of the freedom you gave her to move at her own pace. The fact that you slowly allowed her to meet the pack and get used to the sounds, the smells and the way they interact with you. This is absolutely amazing Lee, you and the pack are amazing. To God be the glory.

@@makeyourlifebeautiful1652 I agree too. I fostered an 18 month old boxer cross and he was shut down when he arrived. He was so overwhelmed he hid for two days. I just talked to him gently and left food for him, and left the back door open so he could go potty when he thought I wasn't about. A few days later he came out and played with my resident dog and she was so gentle with him. He came and put his head on my lap and accepted head scratches, then I was able to take him out on a lead to the field behind my house. I think we did ten walkies that day, he loved it. He's now been here 6 years and I adopted him, it was obvious he loved me and I couldn't bear the thought of tearing him away from the place he was used to. He's now so chilled and friendly. He loves people and just wants to be everyone's friend. He's hyper focussed on me, and always has to know where I am. Even if there are other people in the house giving him fuss as soon as I get up he has to follow me. He's awesome.

@Ade Lucas what a beautiful story. Thank you so much for sharing this with me. Your dogs are so lucky to have such an amazing Daddy and we have so lucky to have them in our lives
My first rescue dog was very much like that, she was terrified of everything, everyone and also very young, just like Lady. I was drawn to her, I couldn't explain it, but I felt like she was meant to be my dog. A couple weeks in, she had not changed much and I began to wonder if maybe I had been wrong and my home wasn't the right place for her. I will never forget the day I was trying to play fetch with her, she was scared and coward away. I stopped and went to work on my garden, really down because I didn't know how to help her. A few minutes later, I looked down and she had brought the ball back to me and left it next to me. You wanna play girl?! She seemed excited for the first time, so I tossed the ball across the yard, she chased it and brought it back to me. From that moment on she was a totally different dog, my protector and my constant companion for many long years, and the best dog I ever had :)

So much admiration for Lee & the team at Asher House. Beautiful to see Lady's transformation, and all the pack so happy. Well done !! ❤😊
I’m sat here saying awww awww so many times. Lady has found her safe place. Thank goodness she is with you and all her brothers and sisters. You are such a wonderful person Lee. What you give these dogs is beyond words x x
This is heartbreaking for a young dog to be so frightened. If anyone can help her, its here at Asher House. God bless you as always.
Lady is the perfect name for her! You are so I tune with these dogs by letting them be themselves and come to you when they are ready! 😮
Aweee, Miss Lady is absolutely beautiful! I’m sure that all of us that watch you Lee knew Miss Lady would come bouncing out of that traumatic shell once she knew she was safe. She’s safe, she’s loved, and best of all, she is home! God bless you Lee and all of you at the Asher House for saving another 4 legged soul who deserves love! 💜🙏🏻✝️💜

Lee thanks for being there for all these wonderful dogs What's the latest on the rotties? We have had rotties as in forever please do a video to show what fantastic creatures they are Bless you
Oh my goodness, such a beautiful wonderful uplifting rescue Lee! Again! I loved seeing Roo determined to engage and play with Lady! Already part of the team! And Little Bear, calmly causing around... you've created such a wonderous vortex of love there. Spontaneous heart opening healing. I am humbled as well. 🙏🙏🐕🐕❤️🔥❤️🔥
God please help this beautiful Lady recover from this awful illness that she and her sisters some how got. She had part of her lung removed which will take time to heal. She’s been adopted! A forever home!! How exciting that is. When she is completely stronger and gone through physical therapy and get the ok to travel she will be picked up by her new family. She’ll be spoiled and living it up with new family. Lady and all her family at Asher House deserve to be healthy, happy and receive goodness only. Thank you God❤
Lee, you’re a beautiful soul. Lady is such a gorgeous girl. I’m so glad she found you and the pack. 🐾💕
I Absolutely LOVE why you named her Lady! Yes, sometimes we need to be taken out to dinner and shown that this person will not hurt us before we can show others who us really are. Yes - dogs/animals are people too. They show us humans our own true feelings and it is necessary to acknowledge them before any of us, and "creature" can start to heal. We can learn so much from you, your team, and all your blessed prior victims.

Lady is such a great addition to the group. The breed is very intelligent so its no surprise that she ran around so freely. She saw how kind and loving you are and how the other dogs were so accepting of her. ❤

You are such an amazing spirit. Our four-legged animals need more people like you. Peace and Happiness ❤
OMG! As a child, 58 years ago, I had dog named “Blackie.” This shy dog is a duplicate of my sweet girl.she would meet me every day when I got off the school bus. What a glorious dog. Thank you.
Seeing how loving and calm and trusting the pack was towards you definitely helped her to trust you too. Poor baby. Must've gone through hell in her short 6 months. Glad she's in better hands though.
What an amazing transformation!!! Beautiful! ❤🐾🐾❤️The love that you give these dogs is truly the greatest gift of all!!! ❤❤❤…
I rescued a dog that was dumped near where i live. She was so skittish. It took me a whole summer to get near her. I finally took my Chihuahua, sophie. They immediately fell in love with each other. I've had Bella almost 9 years, now. Sophie has since passed away after 18 years. We were both heartbroken, but grateful to still have each other.
It breaks my heart the thought of the thousands of dogs going through trauma and fear. Lady is beautiful
When these dogs know they know. Such a credit to you and your team Lee for making these beautiful animals feel so safe. Lady is about to live her best life ❤
Honestly, I think the way you went about it is something that a lot of people need to take a note of. My cat was traumatized and very skittish and I bonded with her just like that, letting her be in charge of her own space, make her own choices, etc. No forcing her into anything. Animals really appreciate that sort of kindness and they will turn it right back around on you at the first opportunity they have because they know you're safe. Honestly how that Dog reacted to you tells me so much about you as a person. A lot of people get dogs and then just constantly invade their space without any consideration of what the animal wants. That sort of trust has to be earned. Good job earning it and I'm so happy shes turning around!
Her eyes changed from fear to love ❤️ Beautiful gift you have to shares with these animals ❤️
It’s fantastic to see Lady socializing with her other canine friends. She feels safe and loved for probably the first time 🐾😎🐾
She felt all the good vibes from you and the pack, and knew it was a safe place to be. Lady is a wonderful name for her. Thank you for all your good work! ❤ 😊😊🐶🐶 🇺🇸 KY
We adopted a dog at 3 months. She had been in foster care since she was born down south and was terrified of people. Her whole litter was terrified of human contact .
Thank you so much for providing a safe loving environment and for helping so many dogs, especially Lady.
Aaawwwhh, Lee! What a reminder of my sweet Dahli! I raised aussies for 15 yrs. When i got Dahli she was close to what Lady is like. They have a very soft personality. She never did warm up to men. But we bonded on a walk. She was the sweetest most loving girl ever . I really miss my aussies now. Thank you for taking her and giving her a good life. She will be herding the walks in no time, lol❤
Sir, your kindness and patience with these doggos is one of the best examples of wholesome masculinity I've seen in years. Keep up the amazing work. 👏

Agree… he’s remarkable! Angels 😇 do exist for animals.
This video just gave my tear ducts a workout. It's so sad that a dog can get in this state, but amazing that in the right environment, they can heal so quickly. Also, amazing that Lee is willing to sacrifice even the shirt on his back to save these beautiful creatures.
My dog, Neelan, is a picture of Lady. September 1st 2022, he was diagnosed with Hermangiosarcoma of the Spleen. This sarcoma is commonly found only in dogs and no other animals. It rapidly grows on the dogs blood rich organs. Neelan's tumour grew huge rapidly we layed him to sleep 23 days later. Surgery is and option but the tumour grows back very fast in 2/3 months. Lee, Lady reminds me so much of Neelan especially the markings. When I watch your herd running and playing in the sanctuary I am searching for Lady. Miss my Baby.
Eating my breakfast and crying. This was SO beautiful 😢♥️
