There is a ghost orchestra of people killed in church bombings. They reside here, and play this ghostly tune for all to hear. They mourn their own deaths, their deaths at the hands of one of the devil’s henchmen. Killed only because of their beliefs, and nothing else. This is the only way they can live out their existence without agony. Yet, how strange! The reason they play this piece is to portray their agony to the world. The never ending agony.

The light of this song is blinding, and so men call it dark. Peer into passion and see how beautifully it resonates. Although personally the only difference I notice for this song is a minor echo. If one could teach the audience Latin one wouldn't need the Cathedral's acoustics.

Lacrimosa is a highly emotional part of Mozart's requiem. He wrote the vocals (and an other instrument section, I would say base) on his deathbed, but could not complete it. The requiem resembles the end of greatness, the end of art, the end of the human spirit. So if I heard this in a cathedral when I am alone in there, I will close my eyes while laying on the ground and fully embrace the art.

Mozart did not write the lyrics, those were part of the Requiem Mass text that was already being used in the Catholic Church for centuries before Mozart. He did, however, set them to music on his deathbed - I agree with you, it really is a powerful composition.

Fun fact: 90% of Lacrimosa isn't by Mozart since he died after writing until 0:27. A pupil of his finished Lacrimosa and the whole Requiem in the form he thought Mozart would

There should def be more performances in darkness/near darkness. I have amazing memories of kind of sneaking into a church in the middle of nowhere, Brittany, that has got a 17th century organ, while someone I knew was practising. At maybe 10 at night ? The only lights on where the ones around the organ.

One of the most beautiful churches in the world.

Mozart wrote this on his deathbed and it was the last thing he ever wrote. That's why this movement is very short, it is unfinished. He basically wrote his own requiem for his own funeral. I can hear his soul still living within this piece, it is haunting yet very magical.

fun fact, mozart died after writing about 30 seconds into this piece, and it was finished by a pupil of his; so i’m sure they used a similar style, and while i do agree this song is amazing (one of my favorite classicals actually), it’s •technically• not by mozart. but i hate sounding like that pretentious person so i’m just gonna stop

It’s songs like these that make me wish some musical pieces would never end. I hate listening to something as grandiose as this and then having that shocking jolt violently thrust you back into reality. There are times when I would be more than happy to listen to a song like this for an eternity, or for it to be the last thought playing in my mind before I drift off into death.

Everything is original and produced for each game. In fairness, the people make music which I believe is on par with some of the best.

The combination of this heavenly music with the deep atmosphere of a cathedral is something god would be proud of...

Story: You are in a lonely Cathedral, in the middle of the night. The Cathedral is empty as no one has stepped in it since the end of the war, centuries ago. And as you pray the rosary on one of the pews you hear the Choir singing this Melancholic hymn, but then you remember that the last choir that operated in this Cathedral was killed in the war, when the Cathedral was sealed and set ablaze during the Mass. And then you see the Candles next to the Altar light up by themselves, and you can see the faint, white and transparent silhouettes of the former choir, and all of the Candles light up turning the darkness of this old Cathedral into utter light, and as you finish your prayers and say "Amen" you open your eyes and no longer see the Empty ruins, and desolate Cathedral. You are shocked to find that you are in the Middle of a Morning Mass and the Church is packed with people, you see the priest offering the Mass, and the Choir Singing this same tune, and you stare at your surroundings not believing that a minute ago you stood in an empty, dark ruin in the middle of the night, and now you are sitting in a Majestic Cathedral filled with people during a Morning Mass. You ask yourself how did this happen?

When the serial killer that got into your house can't kill you because you're in the living room

It is night, cold, raining and you are traveling across the french countryside. Desperate to find a place to rest, when you see a small abandoned village with an imposing and somewhat ruined church you decide to stay there. As you enter the church the presence of still lit candles illuminating the otherwise dark church strikes you as odd but ,tired as you are, you decide to lie down and sleep on one of the less filthy benches. Suddenly, as you are about to fall asleep, you hear the sound of the door opening. A group of five men, dressed in white robes, followed by a mass of filthy people, dressed in some sort of rough linen, enter the church and ,unbodered by your presence, start sitting on the various benches, now clean and without any of the previous debris. After some time the men in the white robes start singing a song and ,imitating them, everyone else rises from their seats and starts singing too. You find the song solemn but profoundly beautiful and can't help but stay paralysed just listening to it for what must have been hours, eventually you feel yourself falling asleep. You wake up as the first rays of sunshine hit your face. Leaving the church you can't help but wonder if this was more than a dream.

Empty churches are soo incredibly quiet, they cancel the outside noise once you enter in, it feels like you’re being separated from the word. Great place to cry in, would recommend.

When you have passed all of the side quests and going to the main story boss

At the edge of consciousness, for example when I am just waking up or just falling asleep, there are times where I feel as though I am hearing faint music. This is very similar to what that subconscious orchestra sounds like. Thank you, this pleases me greatly :)

Plot twist: it isn’t a cathedral at all. As you stumble into the decimated ruins of the building, you see a series of statues and artifacts, as the music abruptly starts playing faintly from what appears to be a kind of gramophone. As you proceed, you see what remains of the statues playing out the story of a plot, a murder, and revenge. “Hmm... I wonder just who this Lady Comstock was.”
