Coming from a place of care and concern I hope you get better soon. 2-5 hours of exercise a day is quite significant, I don’t even think professional footballers workout that much every day and it may be the reason for your recurrent injuries. There can be a middle way, a balanced sustainable way. I workout for 30 minutes a day and that is usually more than enough for me to feel all of the benefits of exercise Xx

Ruby, it’s okay to feel unmotivated, especially when you’ve hurt yourself, of course your body including your brain won’t react as usual. It’s a struggle to put a stop to those things after they become part of the routine, but it’s alright to rest. I loved the whole thing you shared about realizing that some people live in certain ways always and for example even studying at a desk is hard or impossible, even this is you making the best of your situation! Get well soon darling, it’ll be okay!!

Also I really don’t like the thought that productivity always means doing something. Sometimes taking care for yourself and resting is the most productive thing you can do. Show some love to your body. It’s not a vehicle fulfilling its purpose to function. If you don’t take care and are not being patient your health could suffer.

Tip that might sound stupid but actually does help me as someone who sometimes have to work in bed because of a disability : lay on the opposite side of the bed than the one you sleep on! The change in visual perspective kind of tricks your brain into thinking it’s two different settings.

remember that ‘productive’ doesn’t have to be synonymous with ‘good.’ it’s a-okay to relax and give yourself a break, especially when your body is hurt. let yourself be human. you’re not a machine; you’re allowed to not be constantly productive. this doesn’t take away from your identity as an intelligent, responsible woman. it only gives you the peace of mind to be more yourself.

If you’re injured you don’t have to be motivated. There are always circumstances in life forcing you to pause and eventually reevaluate whether you maybe overdid it. Health always comes first. Even if it’s such a little thing as a torn ligament. You’re way to obsessed with being productive. Someday in your life you need to start being more spontaneous and not force yourself to do something.

Hi Ruby, I broke my arm a week before Easter this year. So I totally understand what it’s like to be in quarantine and trying to do school without a fully functioning body. Some of the tips that have helped me are sit by an open window or open a window in your room, take melatonin and maybe pain medicine before you go to sleep it helps me overcome the discomfort and I actually fall asleep, and be very gracious with yourself about when you need breaks.

Hey stranger, I just wanted to say that I completely empathise with you and I really feel your frustration. I graduated last year and that was difficult enough with completely new content in every subject (in NSW, Australia anyway) so I cannot imagine how tough it is now not being face-to-face. I'm in my first year of university so I understand that the struggle is real! Just know that this will not last forever and that there are some positives you can take from this entire experience if you look hard enough. Just remember that everyone is in the same boat and don't put too much pressure on yourself. You may be lacking motivation but it is the discipline that will separate you from the rest - if you have a specific goal in mind, don't lose sight of it! Also, please remember to be kind to yourself. You will get through this x x.

It’s really bad and I don’t know what to do but let it heal by sleep and resting it in a ‘natural position’. It’s all across my left shoulder, back and neck. I keep moving suddenly and pulling it again. The pain!

LOVED that you thought about and mentioned inclusivity regarding study spaces!! I suffer from a myriad of chronic illnesses and frequently experience days where I am forced to work from my bed or sofa due to poor health. I agree that it isn't as motivating a space to work from and there are a whole new set of challenges regarding comfort and focus when blending your relaxed area with your work. It isn't ideal but many people are forced to do work and relax in the exact same space, so please continue to talk about it - especially as you find ways around working with your injury. Would love to hear what is helping you!

I had this situation just after Christmas: my back was hurting so much that I could not move from my bed (literary). Suddenly, the only thing I could do was watch movies and videos, because books and studying were just too much. And I think sometimes you just have to give your body this time to recover. As long as this is something you need, maybe productivity can wait? Take care, I hope you get better soon!

I also lack motivation when I can't do my usual routine or plans. It takes time to adjust. Don't forget that a lot of people have hurt themselves doing sport and stopping for a few weeks isn't going to make you loose all the progress and benefits you got from it. And as you wisely said, this is going to give you a new perspective on things and I think that it's a genuine lesson, when something "bad" happens to you, you can often find something positive out of it (not for every event of course)

I tore a ligament as well. Apparently I sat on it for an hour since it was our schools sports day and we always have to sit on the ground in a stadium in the sun for like an hour since the principal literally gives such a long speech. Long story short my parents didn't even believe me and thought I was faking it until it got all swollen and bluish/purple veins started to appear. I literally had to take those umbrellas with a curved handle and walk with it😂😂😂.

I hope you feel better soon. I had heart problems about 2 years ago that meant I was on enforced rest for a long time. My motivation would vary day by day but I did find it added greater value to activities I previously took for granted once I was able to to return to normal. The greatest advice I received was to listen to my body and don’t force myself to ‘achieve’, my body needed more rest during that time and when I listened it really helped. I found that after a day of little motivation I would have a fantastically productive one the next. What I’m trying to say is take it slow, don’t worry to much about your motivation at the moment and rest lots. Look on the bright side, it’s happened at the best possible time you’re home with your family, the country is on lockdown so you’re not having to cancel or rearrange commitments and you can enjoy lots of extra reading and family time while you heal. I hope you feel better soon. Keep safe x

Hi Ruby, the same thing happened to me a couple of weeks ago! I substituted dancing for running in quarantine but went on runs too often because I found them so helpful for my mental health. Then, I also tore a ligament and was actually stuck at home (instead of still being able to walk/run in the nearby forest). It 'ruined' my productivity; I simply didn't have the same balance anymore and thus, struggled revising for my final year exams. What really helped me was finding other ways to clear my mind, even if I couldn't exercise at all for a couple of weeks. Sending love

I previously injured my elbow doing bounders on a trampoline... It hyperextended and took so long to heal and straighten it out again. It’s ok to be passionate about exercise! It is a big part of so many successful people’s lifestyles, and healthy dedication to it is not necessarily a “crutch” or unhealthy obsession. We are alive and meant to move in many different ways! :) Best wishes for a thorough recovery!

I've recently found out I have fibromyalgia, which means that there are *loads* of days in which I'm just too tired (or in pain) and being motivated becomes extremely hard... plus it also makes it harder to work at a desk or have a proper organisation/routine. I love it that this situation (as dreadful as it is!) has helped you in becoming an even more empathetic person, and I'm sure loads of people will benefit from following videos of your different routines! All in all, I hope to be able to adapt to my new normal with fibro (+ the current new normal with covid-19 and quarantine!) and still find ways to become a motivated person like you, even if our life circumstances are quite different. This was a lovely video (as always!) and I'm so very grateful for the content you share with us

May your ankle ligament heal fully and quickly! I actually fractured my ankle on March 21st. while on a hike. I had been excited about going on more hiking trips with a few friends, while keeping social distancing, as they had become the highlight of my week. Well, that took a pause, haha. Crutches were annoying that first month, but since my fracture didn't require surgery, I can walk on it again without a boot. The pain and swelling have gone down considerably. Thankfully, I had already found yoga nidra for relaxation here on KZread, and I have also started Trataka, which is pretty enjoyable as I watch a mesmerizing flame with my full attention. Both, along with Kirtan Kriya, have helped improve my focus, and work goes by more smoothly while in bed. Ruby, if you are looking for something to do to help you relax, heal faster, and be able to handle stress better without feeling unmotivated, please start doing yoga nidra. You can do it in bed, and there are tons of free videos, both long and short. Here's a playlist of the ones I have found: kzread.info/head/PLqEWXVGDmfKRdbYmnV4hz2GRaqTQ3VrNp Also, since you have awesome candles, take advantage of them, and start Trataka as well. Both combined will help you fall asleep faster too. 😁

Ruby, hope your ankle gets better! ❤️ I so relate to you when it comes to exercise. When I was in high school, I used to say that physical activity is ''a waste of time''. My professor had a hard time motivating me and I always made sure to tell everyone how books and reading and studying are so much more important. Now... I can't imagine my days without exercise! Ahh, I wish I could just go back and tell myself I am making a huge mistake as a teenager! But, oh well - we all learn. I truly realized physical exercise is as important as mental. 😊

Ruby, please don’t take this the wrong way, but also please acknowledge this comment. How upset you are about not being able to exercise is quite concerning. You just seem overly focused, obsessed on it. Not only that, but you seem to eat quite little and five whole hours of exercise is pushing your body wayyyy too hard, and I’m almost positive that is what is causing your reoccurring injuries. This is coming from a professional athlete who used to do the same thing. Please just take care of yourself. You deserve to take a rest, it’s what you need most. Sending love🍓

Yes, thank you for pointing this out. Especially when you're just starting out with exercise it's incredibly harmful for your body to go 0 to 100.

Well said! She mentioned in the vid that she was exercising more because she didn't exercise as much in her earlier years, but there's actually no need to do that. Regular exercise can be started at any age: there are even elderly people who start in their 60s and go on to become really fit! There's no need to feel like you have to "make up for time lost", which to me seems like a byproduct of the productivity mindset as well. She also already had an existing sports injury in her other leg, which makes it all the more worrying that she continued to exercise for 2-5 hours each day. Even sports injuries that seem to have healed can be easily aggravated when you over-exert yourself. Get well soon Ruby! I hope you can give yourself the time to rest and recuperate fully :)
