Labscope Triggers - Pros and Cons - featuring the ATS E-Scope Elite w/ Brandon Steckler

For those of you that are fortunate to know or know of Brandon Steckler, you know this little guy with a big heart and a big mind is a wonder. This Wonder Boy’s encouraging demeaner and drive for excellence is contagious.
I’m so excited that Brandon has another video! I was starting to get Brandrawals.
In this video, Brandon shares some valuable lessons in scope triggers with us. True to form, Brandon lays the foundation with the fundamentals then drives it home by demonstrating how you can apply the lesson to be more accurate and efficient in your diagnosis.
Not quite a Spoiler Alert! If you miss this video, the next time you’re trying to pinpoint the cause of a concern, you might miss the trace that will give you the diagnostic direction needed to do so.

    It's super nice to have someone of your caliber give us a lesson. I'm a knave. I have a Verus and a Vantage Pro. That board that u have that simulates the signals, wait, not simulate, but produce actual signals, allows u to sit down without the car running and test till your heart's content. I'm sure it's super expensive but what a fantastic tool! Hardly ever use my scopes except to play around. Need to become more familiar, and that demo system would b really sweet. Once again, thank u for taking the time to help us!!!

Honorable mention to you Brandon, Keith, Eric O, Ivan, Paul, Jim, and several others who give critical information to us! There is no way the diyer will ever be able to keep up with the tech progression. Therefore you guys are not taking food out of any ones mouth, but putting it in many more mouths. If I can’t afford to take it to a shop, then I must fix it myself, if not, no work, no money, no security. We still have to purchase car parts and some diagnostic equipment. • @brandonsteckler3417

    @brandonsteckler3417

    Hi Juergen, The EScope from ATS only features the four trigger criteria mentioned in the video: -Channel -level -position -slope However, there is the ability to trigger individually on both dual-scopes. Truly two independently -triggered scopes on one screen, and at two different time-bases as well. It does not have a “single” or “repeat” trigger function, like Pico features

    Hey Bud! A single-trigger will no longer update the scope screen after the trigger criteria has been achieved the first time. This is a very handy feature. “Auto” is when the scope software is left to decide when to trigger. This can vary between scopes. The blanket statement is: triggers have to be achieved for the scope to refresh. If not, the previous Acquisition will remains on the screen (even if the failure occurs)

    Hi Brandon,Thanks for the informative video.I have been watching more of your videos and enjoy all of them.I currently have a Pico 4425 and am considering switching to an Escope.I am a one man shop and would value your opinion on a couple things.Would you recommend an 8 chanel? I noticed you have a 4? I see people talking about 4 cam sensor engines and the need for 8 chanels.It seems you could diagnose a correlation issue using in cylinder diagnostics? Would you recommend going with the ATS tablet? I am the only user and keep my equipment in good shape.Are the ats pressure transducers ok for use with fluids?I know the Pico is a good scope I am just feeling like I could get more use out of the Escope.Any help on these questions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, Patrick

    Very good Explanation of the trigger function. Is there a way to have the scope stop rolling mode if a certain criteria is met. Such as a cam signal dropping out or ignition coil trigger dropping out, or even an ignition coil current ramp dropping out... Using the trigger function that most modern scopes have, or using a pico.

  • @brandonsteckler3417

    @brandonsteckler3417

    4 жыл бұрын

    Great question, Regarding the ATS, there are several ways to capture data. It can be carried out on dual-scope (as the video describes), a stacked-scope (allows 4 individual scope displays on on screen) and Deep-record (which allows a single vertical reference amplitude for all signals. Can be manipulated like that if the PSD files from PICO). From what you seen is the dual-scope capture, a strip-chart/roll-mode allows the data to be plotted with no mind to trigger criteria. Therefore, it cannot be set to pause when a drop-out occurs. This best carried out in the deep-record screen. It stores a lot of data over a period of up to 10,000 seconds, in a circular-buffer (no dropped-data). When a fault is detected, the user has the ability to place a “strike” on the screen . This will be stored/superimposed on the capture for easy-hunting at the time the capture is analyzed. Instead of sorting through 10,000 seconds of data, on just hunts for the very-visible “strike”. Makes for quick diagnoses

  • @Autofixpals

    @Autofixpals

    4 жыл бұрын

    @@brandonsteckler3417 the strike has to be manually placed on the fault so it can be caught the next time it occurs when using deep-record? Im still learning how to use the Pico and i don't have an ATS, But does the deep something or another (cant remember what its called on Pico) operate in a similar way on Pico?

  • @brandonsteckler3417

    @brandonsteckler3417

    Auto Fix Pal , The “strike” is placed on the capture as you desire . It serves as an indicator to a point of your interest (like when you sense a “symptom”). I’m not sure how a deep-record functions on other scopes, sorry

Functionality is much better than the pico.this investment is not cheap but unfortunately some techs love diagnostics and such a tool is a game changer? I enjoyed the video and know it is a great training video that serves as a selling feature. This video just put another ding against the pico. Do a video on specs and how sample rate, bandwidth and bits work if you want to seal the deal. Lol

This video was meant to display “trigger” and how it relates to scopes in general. The trigger sets limitations and thresholds. If those thresholds aren’t crossed, a waveform will not be drawn👍

    Agreed 100%...much easier to display on a board in my kitchen, though 😆
