@@Cancun771 8 years on and still whinging about the referendum. GET. OVER. IT. Why are you putting this at Corbyn's door? He didn't lead the Remain campaign (even though he did make more appearances than anybody else to campaign for it even if he personally has misgivings about the EU and its direction of travel), that was Alan Johnson, and pretty much the entire Establishment campaigned for Remain. Any socialist worth their salt knows the EU is anti-worker and pro-corporate. We all saw what happened to Labour when the People's Vote gang forced that ludicrous second ref pledge into the 2019 manifesto - Labour got slaughtered because of it (not by Labour voters switching to Tory as it happens, but with pro-EU voters sulking and either staying at home or voting Lib Dem/Green which was the height of Remainiac stupidity - voting for parties who had no chance of winning or influencing the course we took). There was NO way of overturning the result without telling half the country that their vote was worthless and democracy is a pointless sham.
@M2Mil7er
2 ай бұрын
@@Cancun771 you know JC agreed a deal with Brussels in principle that wouldn't have damaged the nation. And the reason we ended up with the hard version is that the right of the party wanted to throw 2019 so they could get rid of him. They accomplished that by forcing a 2nd ref into the 2019 platform, which lost The Red Team the north. But people who don't get it will keep blaming him. Ironically, if you were to give him the middle name of "I should've fought the 2nd ref because when we said we'd honour the results, we got 40% of the vote in 2017, and in using that as a route to power, we'd have had a Lexit instead" - granted, not as pithy as yours, but certainly more accurate.
@shtarpark7938
2 ай бұрын
@@Cancun771 It's funny how the politician that went off-script at conference to talk about a second referendum ended up as leader, after the inevitable collapse in support for the party as a result. Corbyn was already getting everything thrown at him, particularly after 2017 when (and _because_ ) Labour made huge gains in vote share, and this was the final nail in the coffin. Corbyn's instinct was always to try to reconcile differences...something that made him a great leader and also a terrible one...and he got played on this. It was a time when all the self-proclaimed 'sensible' and 'pragmatic' Labour MPs and supporters needed to accept the reality that there were two choices...Brexit under a corrupt, dishonest and incompetent Tory government, or Brexit under a moderate Socialist party with a manifesto that protected the rights of the working class. Instead, we got these calls for a second referendum, which understandably alienated Leave voters, whilst at the same time Corbyn was being criticised as being a 'Brexiter' who hadn't done enough to win the referendum, driving the more fanatical Remain voters away from the party. It was insanity, and we ended up with a government that perfectly represented that.

Way better than the actual news.
Bin Lorry Fires, lets get them into Goverment to sort this shit out.
You're a genius, Michael!
The first thing I did when this was posted was too check the news. I actually fell for it, just waiting for Matt Hancock to pop up now in their labour adverts to promote good solid honest labour values. If I hear another political party promise honesty and here for the people, I shall have no choice but to leave planet earth and seek other life forms to join.

You like Huey Lewis and the News? Their early work was a little too new wave for my taste. But when Sports came out in '83, I think they really came into their own, commercially and artistically. The whole album...

But it's entirely believable that Boris would join Labour if Starmer put him in the Lords and made him Foreign Secretary. Of course Boris would accept - does anybody know any different?? The Lord Johnson of Eton and Windsor. Sounds good on the CV. Next stop UN Secretary General. Obvious.
