Not so very long ago, I had a lengthy Twitter conversation with a guy who had pulled me up about my use of the word 'cabal', in one of my tweets. I kept it reasonably civil, but as the conversation went on he became more and more agitated, eventually, calling me a Nazi and finishing with anti-Semite. I, simply, laughed at him, whereupon, he 'blocked' me. I've 'muted' him, just to be on the safe side, but it was a salutary lesson, to me, that there are some strange people on the other side of this argument.

Cabal is an acronym for the names of the 17th Century English Statesmen of King Charles II. They were Clifford, Arlington, Buckingham, Ashley Cooper and Lauderdale. It has come to mean a secret group involved in intrigues. It has nothing to do with the Hebrew word Kabbalah.

I have suspected the lobby was involved. Anti semitism was rife in the UK in the 30s. I think those of us who grew up after the war were very pro Israel because of the Holocaust. Many of us were unaware of the Palestinian displacement. We were fed propaganda from films as well. It sounds like a well researched book.

There was none. And the anti-Semitism smear was heavily sponsored by a Tory government trying to whatabout itself out of its disgustingly racist immigration scandal involving the deportation and detention of Windrush expats. Which is why every pmq question charging the Tories for their racism was batted away by May, and then Johnson, with the manufactured anti-Semitism smear pivotal in their response. It was literally their only response at one point.

He's been talking about it since 2015. Or basically since Israel shelled the Gaza strip with huge loss of civilian lives, and Israel were being hammered internationally, and subsequently formed pressure groups to elevate anti Israeli government criticism and Palestinian rights advocacy, to the status of anti-Semitism.

This shows the amount of work that Keir Starmer still needs to do...

I ordered this book from OR Books three months ago and it kept getting delayed which l found strange so l cancelled the order. I will now buy it from any outlet closer to the UK rather than from the US ORBooks.

I had the same experience with OR. I waited six months and they kept putting me off. I eventually cancelled. This "pre-order" business is a scam. Either you've got a book to sell or you haven't.

@@capt.bart.roberts4975 I've never met Tony but I've been on the zoom calls that he's been on. I've always respected him. I'd love to meet him one day and learn from him (and other's). There's so much that has been kept from us (Joe public) and lied about over the year's that I think it's important to have an understanding of events and the people involved. Most importantly though is standing up against antisemitism (and the weaponising of antisemitism) and for the Palestinians.

Dalton was Chancellor in Atlee's government for only two years (1945-47). He messed up and was replaced by Stafford Cripps, who I've always regarded as a decent and principled politician. I hope he wasn't anti-Semitic, too. I certainly haven't heard anything to that effect. I guess I'll have to buy Asa's book to find out.
