La Palma volcano: Stunning explosions of red-hot lava after crater collapses
A river of red-hot lava gushing from the Cumbre Vieja volcano on Spain's La Palma thickened on Monday after the north side of the crater collapsed the previous night, causing spectacular explosions.
Close-up shots showed jet streams of lava from the intensifying volcanic activity after the crater collapse.
Despite the heightened activity, the lava appeared to be following a similar trajectory to previous flows and avoiding areas that have so far been spared, Canary Islands' regional president Angel Victor Torres said.
1:57 Drone footage released by Spain's Superior Council of Scientific Investigations (CSIC) showed hot lava streams continuing to fall from cliffs into the sea and extending the island's surface as the lava hardens when it hits the water.

Volcano god: get off my island
The lava jets certainly seem to be more forceful than the recent Iceland Volcano and I understand that this volcano is erupting lava at about double the speed of that one. I feel deeply for the ppl. that have been severely affected by this event but I believe the Govt. is offering financial help, hopefully it will reach all that are the worst affected. The up-side is that depending on how long this event continues, the island may expand quite substantially, altho I realise this land will not be very usable in the short term.

It would be so thrilling and awe inspiring to be there, to hear the sounds, see the sights, to smell the smell of a volcano . . . the mother of lands. . . . Then to go home. But for those who's home is the volcano's island this will be very scary. Mind you ppl. get used to their environment and this is not something unexpected, so you prepare for a bad outcome and hope it doesn't happen, but if it does then you do what's necessary and carry on as best you can. . . . That is the way of humanity! .

@notmyfault6835

Even as the lava touches the ocean, cools, and then hardens, rivers and streams of lava continues to flow underneath the hardened material until pressure punctures the crust at which time new lava comes in to contact with the water again. This is essentially how the island grows larger.

omg is so scary...0
