This summer marks 20 years since cult film La Haine burst on to French cinema screens, before taking the world by storm.
With its stylish black and white look, its humour, hip hop, and gritty drama, la Haine shone a new light on the deprived parts of the suburbs around Paris known as the banlieue.
It would be the first mainstream film to show the French public a different side to these neighbourhoods to the riots broadcast on the news.
