La Croix Lovers May Not Want to Hear This - Sharp Science
Ғылым және технология
Despite popular thought, soda water like La Croix or Perrier isn't so guilt-free to drink. Carbonic acid in these drinks slowly erode the enamel. Combined with the fact that La Croix lovers enjoy the drink as a water substitute, it may be a wise choice to drink in moderation - like any other soda.

@@tcorourke2007 The problem is of course, the people who trade one bad addiction for another. Like for instance, you're not drinking 5~10 of bottles of beer a day any more, but now you're drinking 5~10 cans of Soda Water a day instead. The thing a lot of people don't understand is that videos like this aren't for the people who DON'T do stuff like that, but for the people who think "Oh, this isn't beer, so it should be fine to drink a whole pack of them a day, right?" No, no it's not. It's the same problem that arises when people get addicted to the nicotine patches that are supposed to slowly help you get over nicotine addiction. They don't want the stigma of smoking cigarettes, but they still want the high.
@tcorourke2007
4 жыл бұрын
@@seiggrainhart4719 Nowhere in this video does it say anything about drinking 5-10 of these beverages a day. This is a straw-man argument. Furthermore, no one is "getting addicted to nicotine patches". People who use nicotine patches are generally attempting to ween themselves from cigarettes or at minimum switch to a less damaging form of delivery. You have absolutely no idea what you are talking about.
@seiggrainhart4719
4 жыл бұрын
@@tcorourke2007 Well, you're technically correct. You're right, people aren't getting addicted to the patches. They're addicted to the nicotine in the patches, which was the point of my post, which you seemed to miss so you could post in your tumblr echo chamber on how you "totally murdered this guy by words!" Good for you, here's your internet thumbs up points so that you can talk about how cool you are because you insulted someones intelligence because they disagreed with you. Now then, back to seriousness. Yes, I do know what I'm talking about. It's a thing called "Addictive Personality Disorder" it's why they have you take personality tests before the case-study, so Cigarette companies can point at it and say "See! Marijuana is more addictive than Tobacco!" People who have Addictive Personality Disorder are more likely to get addicted, and stay addicted, to certain things (Usually Alcohol, Drugs, or other pleasurable activities.) It's why people who dead-drop Cigarettes start eating a lot more candy than before. It's why Alcoholics keep returning to the bottle despite it "Being the last time." While I do admit that Nicotine Patches are known for being the safer option when trying to stop smoking, it is still possible to get addicted to using them, especially if you have Addictive Personality Disorder. It's just not noticed as much as say, the gum, because doctors and scientists have found no draw back to using them, so far. Other than the obvious one of you depend on the Nicotine in the patches to go about your day in any sense of normalcy. I can guarantee you, that if you have a friend or family member who suddenly stopped smoking one day and was just fine the next, they probably swapped to Nicotine patches to get their high from the nicotine, with out getting constantly bugged about their smoking addiction. Now, I'm not saying people who swap to the patches aren't trying to quit smoking. I'm sure a good chuck of them are. But it'd be foolish to think that all of them are. Anywhere from some to most of them are doing it because they don't want to quit, but can't handle having the social stigma of being a smoker. And lastly, yes I am aware that no where in the video did it talk about people 5~10 of the La Croix a day. But, it's not a Straw-man Argument. A Straw-Man argument would be saying "But! But! The saliva in our mouths counteracts the acid in the drink! So it's totally safe!" Yes, it does. To an extent. You really think they were talking about drinking only one? Ah yes, drink one soda water, and your teeth will fall out. Yeah, that's totally what they were saying. Have you ever heard of the word "Implicit"? No, of course they weren't talking about just drinking one ever or even one a day. Like I said, yes saliva counteracts it, but only to a certain point. Once you pass that point, your saliva isn't going to protect your teeth any more that a glass of water will clean a grease stain on a white shirt. And it's the people who swap "Alcohol" for "Soda Water" that are at most in danger of this happening. Because again, as I said, they swapped one addiction for another. Which, again, was the point. Now, this will be my only other reply to you, and I'm putting this here, because I doubt you read more that that first little paragraph. So go right ahead, continue insulting my intelligence instead of holding a civil point-counter point argument like us mature people do. Insult my intelligence as your opener, I insult your maturity as a closer. Fuck you, and have a good day.

I’m assuming they didn’t tell him the full truth. The dentist was most likely told to talk about sodas, in which the phosphoric acid is actually bad for your teeth.

Every other dentist who does imply these same acids do cause damage. 😂😂😂 The video I watched before this had a dentist as well & they said the opposite.
Hi. I have a question. Would drinking water with lemon be similar to drinking Seltzer Water? I just need to know what to drink today.
"Don't drink it every day"? I disagree. You can drink it every day. You go through the trouble of getting a dentist to claim that it's acidic ("has a certain amount of acidity"), but where are the test results with the pH number in the zone where the dentist claims the tooth enamel dissolves, below 5.5? You show a brand trademark in the same video as the picture of rotted teeth @ 1:42 , implying the ultimate horrible result from use of the product, a possible legal matter by the way. The least you could have done is test the product with a pH meter, or at least a cheap piece of litmus paper. Maybe compare it to 12 ounces of Maine spring water that has a teaspoon of vinegar added to it. In the absence of that simple research, does La Croix water taste tart like vinegar water? No, because it's probably way closer to neutral. There is an admission here that most other foods we eat are acidic. By the logic here, we shouldn't eat food "every day" because we are afraid it will rot our teeth.
Way too alarmist. What's with all of the scary dental stock photos? I feel like I was watching Fox News. Yuck. Also, video isn't about La Croix, but ALL carbonated beverages. Good job attacking a brand. This video was garbage, y'all should feel bad.

You can just.... also drink water. You know you can do both right?
Exercise moderation in all things. Words to live by.
I have seen many other videos saying that the level of risk in damaging your teeth from La Croix is minimal as your saliva quickly neutralizes the level of CO2 found in the drink. I also don't know if anyone else has noticed, but La Croix goes flat much faster than traditional soda. This could just be me talking out of my ass, but I believe that may be due to a lower level of CO2 comparatively speaking. So drinking La Croix may not be great for you, but it is still leagues better than soda alternatives. Also I am in no way a fanboy. I know for some reason this drink has gained an oddly large following, but I just bought my first pack hoping it will help aid my reduction in soda consumption. I tend to drink only one soda a day, but would like to reduce that number further. Any suggestions on flavors? I bought orange and it is alright, but seems a bit minimalist in the taste real estate that the flavor takes up.

*1)* Carbonated water *is water*, it's just mixed with carbon dioxide. Once the carbon dioxide escapes, what's left is normal water. *2)* Things you drink have very little exposure with your teeth. So if you're not soaking your teeth with La Croix for hours on end, then there's no need to worry. *3)* The amount of fruit content in La Croix is so low that I highly doubt it adds any acidity to it, especially considering that the pH of most fruits are very close to carbonated water (pH 2-4).
I’m not worried about them. The American dental association considers anything with a ph under 4.0 to be erosive and anything under 3.0 to be very erosive for people who don’t have compromised dental health. So imo avoiding seltzer/sparkling water is silly unless you also avoid wine, beer, coffee, tomato juice, yogurt etc.
