Theres no power that comes c2 and b2 it’s a common neutral connecting l2 c2 b2, you could have removed the yellow wire from the control block and powered the burner directly from were you removed the yellow wire, a 8124 is a triple aquastat it’s not used to keep the boiler dry during the summer. on a call for heat the control will over ride the lo limit used to maintain domestic hot water and run up to the hi limit that’s for your heat load, when the control isn’t calling for heat ,the temp. In the boiler will drop to the lo limit setting that’s to maintain adequate temp in the boiler for domestic hot water, also the lo limit setting acts as the reverse acting setting, that will temporarily shut off the heat circulator on a call for heat if the boiler temp drops below the low setting, that is so you don’t dump all the temp.out of the boiler if you use a tankless coil to make domestic hot water. Lastly there is not a average temp to set the control, that is going to depend on the location of the aquastat in the boiler ,ie a aguastat located in the bottom of the water jacket in the boiler, set at 180 could be flashing in to steam at the top of the water jacket. How this helps

Shouldn't there be a water tempering valve to mix cold with hot and control the temp?

Hey I saw on one of your other videos about triple Aquastats and you were talking about if you had one of these triple aquastats on a boiler and eliminated the DHW coil when I installed a different water heater you could turn down the HI limit if you’re only using it for heating, so you said you could bypass the Lo limit or turn it down so I turned down the low to 120 or whatever the lowest it went and I turned down the high limit to 140, and I ran the boiler after and everything seemed to work perfect and the heating pipes were still really hot so did I do everything right?? I don’t use the DHW coil at all anymore!

Is it working ok since you turned it down?

garagekeys We turned down the high limit to 160 and turned the low down to 140 or so. It seems to run a lot less than it did before when It was at a higher temperature but still heating the house perfectly but the boiler will be replaced next summer because it is a very old failing steel boiler! We are most likely going to replace it with a Smith cast-iron boiler but going to install it without the DHW coil because we don’t need the DHW since we have a heat pump water heater.

garagekeys we adjusted it once more to about 160 hi And 140 low when the cold weather was coming. The boiler is still working ok but needs to be replaced next summer since it’s getting old it’s a steel boiler and it’s not as efficient as newer cast iron ones. We have to stay with oil since we have no Nat gas.

I installed a Nest on mine, and it worked for a year. Now the nest is saying that it's not getting power to Rh and W which are the red and white wires going to my nest. I opened it up and pushed the relay with a scredriver and it worked for two more days, now it gave out again. I don't know a whole lot about this but i imagine the little transformer is bad. The transformer for those of you who don't recognize it is the device on the top right of the unit, basically a bunch of wire wound up with a magnet around it. Could I unsolder the transformer and run a power supply there? I think these things are 24v, so technically I could just buy a 24v AC power supply and use it to power the thermostat side of this thing, right? Please confirm!

I have this controller on my boiler. It is setup like this for hot water heater. I don't have use it for hot water, I have electric hot water heater. How do I stop it from running the boiler to keep the temp for the hot water. I only want it running to provide heat and not hot water. Can you advise? Thanks!

I was always told yes, the reason is having the pilot light always lit keeps any condensation from corroding your boiler.......that small amount of heat from the pilot keeps boiler dry.

The L8124A AQUASTAT CONTROL does not come with a common wire terminal, you can install one coming off the back of the transformer , but requires soldering and could void the warranty. Here is a link that you can read to explain the process with diagrams. diy.stackexchange.com/questions/51999/wheres-the-c-terminal-on-my-boiler-control/52003 . Good Luck

Not sure why deweyox1 has no reply to click on, but maybe this will get to him to answer his question. In order to minimize the call to heat hot water, put the low limit as low as it can go and the differential low also. If the thermostat calls for heat, then the hot water gets heated anyway. If there is no call for heat the low limit sets the temperature for the burner to turn on to heat water and the diff is the temperature for the burner to turn off. (ex. low set to 140 diff set to 15 - this will turn the burner on at 140 to heat hot water and off at 155). The high is only for heat and has a fixed 10 degree diff.

By removing the blue wire from the B terminal (near the black dial) the control will no longer maintain boiler temperature. The circulator will still stay off until the boiler temperature reaches the minimum temperature set on the LO limit setting (Red Dial). so set that as low as you can.

Edward Young Trying to understand your reply about removing blue wire. Are you referring to removing the fixed 10 degree heating differential. Can you explain further.

With the crazy price of oil right now, April 2022, average $4.60/gal, who cares about maintaining a warm start condition. I would argue, better to have a cold start when not calling for heat, even considering all its condensation and carbon build-up problems, Where's the sense in wasting thousands of dollars on using oil to maintain a warm boiler condition? I look at it this way, if every yearly boiler cleaning results in using a jackhammer on that carbon build-up, then so be it. Let's be honest, in the majority of cases, that person who comes in to do your boiler maintenance is collecting what amounts to receiving a welfare $check when consider actual work performed vs to what they charge customers for actual labor. By requiring them to use some elbow grease for a change, they will finally be earning their money for what they actually do vs what they charge for that yearly boiler cleaning, which also includes, replacing filter, and checking stack flow, and adjusting damper, if need be. All of that can be done within 30 minutes. Besides, there's even a question of whether boilers need to be cleaned on a yearly basis or not? And I don't want to hear any sob stories from people saying that boiler will rust, so what if it does, after a few years you'll be able to take your thousands of dollars saved from not wasting oil, and buy yourself an even more efficient boiler to replace your existing one.
