I intend to replace the L322 Range Rover front lower arm suspension ball joint and bush. I explain why I need to replace the ball joint on this L322 Range Rover. I purchased the new replacement from Land Rover, and some people refer to it as the front lower control arm. I also purchased tools for the removal of the ball joint on my Range Rover L322, and I will leave the link for the products below.

    The tension waiting for that *bang* at 08:18 ! I have done this job on my own cars with the same tool you have, and it's always a fright waiting for the bang. The tool is useful, because hitting/shocking the balljoint is not a method that has ever worked for me.

    Good luck with part 2. Smacking the end of the bracket that holds the bolt from the ball joint usually helps break it free

    Hi Neil, thanks for the encouragement! I'm really out of my depth here, but I'm very persistent and I will not stop until it's done (even though the neighbours are complaining about the hammering noise 🫠😆)

    Love your enthusiasm and honesty, I echo the sentiments here, especially about cracking the taper using tension on the tool and a big hammer to shock the eye. About 21 vs 22mm, it's not that the rust build up made the nut bigger, Jaguar Land Rover are notorious for changing sizes, Some of the nuts on my 2005 S/C were 18mm and the replacements were 19. Same with my 2011 5.0, exactly the same as you saw, 22 changed to 21. These are really heavy cars and I had to upgrade a lot of my tools to heavier duty- the Halfords Advanced stuff you showed is fine, Britool/Mac/Snap-On are also good, and the warranty can be useful when you shatter a ratchet trying to get a Rear Sub-Frame bush out! Keep the videos coming, I'm enjoying them a lot!

    Hi Stephen, welcome to our channel! 👋🏻 Thank you very much, I'm really glad you enjoyed the video!😊 Regarding the nut size, you're right, after finishing recording the video, I noticed that it is the size that is different, it's not that it's from the rust or that is was swollen. And with regards to the Halfords tool box, they have a lifetime guarantee, so I really find it helpful!

    Always start with the ball joint end and don’t undo the other end first, then you can’t use the arm to apply pressure to loosen the ball joint! Also prevents it flying off! A ball joint fork is better for this job. This is actually quite a simple job and I did both sides in about 30 mins.

    Hi, as others have said, hit the bottom of the hub really hard. It deforms the taper momentarily and causes it to let go. Sometimes using two hammers at once hitting either side works best. Good luck !

    Also, when fitting the new one, put the ball joint end in first. Don’t tighten it, but get it in with the nut loose. Then it’s easy to put the big bolt through the bush. If you put the bolt through the bush first, it’s very difficult to get the angle right to get the ball joint in.

    Well there is a surprise! You could not get the tapered joint apart, the easy way to break this is to wind up your breaker tool to put tension on the ball joint thread like you did here, then give the "eye" that surrounds the threaded part a really good whack with a heavy hammer, if you hit it towards the length of the arm it will spring the joint and the taper will let go, but be prepared for a loud bang when it gives way, you have to hit it a mighty whack, firm resolute action is required here, but you will do it!     Bit of tension on it with a bar at the ball end and good hard wack with a ball pein hammer - heavy one too should get it out. I have on a previous Range Rover used a ball joint splitter but was a HGV version so able to use much more force.

    8:40 lol. Learning the hard way with ball joint seperators. You should have done the ball joint first before the other end, sometimes giving it a smack with a lump hammer does the job, undo the nut till its nearly off and leave it on the top and give the arm a whack. Also, silverline spanners 😂

    You’ll find on Range Rover suspension it’s nearly always 21/22 nuts & bolts and big hammers.

    It's definitely a 22mm nut, and I'm just looking, I think the arm wasn't a genuine arm. I think it was replaced recently to a non-genuine hence it didn't last long.

    Hit with hammer comes off shock treatment I surest you do both arms and both sides then re track the car

I'll keep hitting it more like you said, even though I have been hitting it for hours and hours, and I'm going to buy more tools (maybe a fork) because people mentioned that a fork is a good idea, and maybe apply pressure with a bar.
