I buy expensive, cool cars cheaply that no one wants anymore and do my best, with no knowledge whatsoever, to bring them back on the road and enjoy them once more.
I work on a sloped driveway and must deal with UK weather, so it is challenging to be normal and use the traditional method of working on cars like everyone else.
I hope you can learn and be inspired by my experience or at least find my videos entertaining!

great video! greatings from brazil! this video will help me jack a old defender. thank you so mutch!
I think that what gives these "expensive" to service cars a bad reputation is the fact that owners will buy aftermarket ,poorly made parts to save money, this comes back to bite them later, or rather the driver that buys the car later, I think people should be happy to save the cost of a main line dealer repair and buy the very best parts when fitting/repairing at home, but there are so many cheap options around now that people are seduced into saving more money. Buying the correct tooling is a very good investment when repairing at home. Good to see your super ramp being put to good use! Stay safe! Chris B.
Nice tool set you have 👍 btw, content and production value are amazing .. keep it up mate
Thank you so much for the compliment on the production, I really gave it my all, so it would be pleasant to watch, and I'm so glad you enjoyed it and appreciate it! 😊 Thanks for watching and for your support! 👍🏻
Grafting ❤
Getting there with it slowly slowly! 👍🏻Thank you for watching!
Hi, so pleased for a new video. Great to see you have all these new tools. I hope you sort the spark plug issue in the next video. Hi from Prague.
Thanks for watching the video, I'm glad you enjoyed it! 😊 I'm continuing to document the rebuild journey, more to come in the next video for sure! 👍🏻
Good video. Thanks for doing this. I don't like the idea of doing the ECU. I have a 2012 fullsized supercharged ranger over. What I have found out about these vehicles is that they don't like sitting for periods of time which I some time do. They are made to be driven. The more I drive it the better it performs.🤑🤑
Thank you very much for the compliment, I'm glad you enjoyed it! 👍🏻 Yes, I couldn't agree more, it has a lot of electronics that are battery-sensitive, so the battery has to be in tip-top condition, and for the battery to be in tip-top condition, it has to be driven often. 😁
Hi I have 2007 range Rover Vogue TDV8. GAP OBD one will be more suitable I guess? I am no mechanical just curious at times.... My steering wheel started to dropped recently.... And I always have to adjust it manually using that small gear....a and also handbrake fault came up.... Brake fluid was low. I am. Just curious.
Hi! 👋🏻 Watch this video here kzread.info/dash/bejne/fqOHyahrgbGxg7A.html - this is a more detailed video on the GAP tool and it may help you with making a decision whether the GAP OBD tool is the right one for you, and if it's worth investing in it. I hope this helps! 😊👍🏻
Love the shirt
Thank you! 😊
So now we can also appreciate the professional garages a bit more
I don't think a garage would bother going through what I did, they're most likely to say you need to replace the full hub as the hub is rusted, and charge additional labour and additional parts.
Could have saved the money. When I did mine, undo ball joint bolts then hammer left and right with a chisel and plenty of ATF sprayed on it, once it starts moving it comes out easy. Leave the subframe end in until last as other wise the arm just bounces around and absorbs any hammer blows so reduces your impact force/ leverage. However to take the arm off the joint just put a big bar in and put some pressure on it then a few heavy blows with a big ball pein hammer will free it from the taper.
Thanks Richard, please take your time in watching the video as you'll notice that I tried that already and didn't succeed due to the amount of rust. 👍🏻
Really good work and glad it paid off. I have seen many people do this though without all those tools so please don’t go thinking you need to spend a sh*t load of money for jobs like this! Also, looks like you’ve lost a bit weight mate. Looking good! Nice work! 👍
Thanks for watching and for your support!😊👍🏻 I must've lost weight due to all the stress 😅
Great job!
Thank you so much! And thank you for watching! 😊👍🏻
@@lifeasusual Attempting the same job myself this weekend, hopefully wont be as bad, UK cars seem to be much worse for rust then cars here in Ireland
Hi Paul, I've just seen your comment! How did it go? Was it very rusty?
If you ever decide to sell the car drop me a message i have never seen one taken care of like yours
Thank you so much Paul, that's one of the greatest compliments! I do my best to look after it 😊
i have to change my Chassis Lateral Arm because it is bent due to a hit. would i need to change anything else?
Hi Julio, I would definitely recommend inspecting the full suspension and replacing everything that is broken. Hope this helps! 😀👍🏻
The last L322 ball joint I replaced wouldn't release, so I loosened the nut about three full turns the drove on my gravel laneway, which has a few small potholes, slowly in first gear while quickly rocking the steering from side to side, I didn't have to go far before it released.
Hi Dave, that is actually genius! I was thinking about doing that but I was too scared to do it. But it's absolute genius! 🤩👍🏻
I did the 2 of those arms with a hammer, chisel and blowtorch it took hours to chisel out the ball joint, I'm going to remove them every now and again and re grease it.
Hi Craig! Yeah, I'm not surprised, it was extremely difficult! But I couldn't dare try a blowtorch near the CV boot because I didn't want to get myself into further trouble 😁 But I was extremely close to buying a torch and trying it. Thanks for watching! 👍🏻
@lifeasusual I used fire blanket to protect the CV boot from melting, it wasn't an easy job, that's for sure. Keep up the good work, I enjoy watching your videos 👍
I thought of fire blanket but I was still too worried. I'm a newbie, I've never used a torch on a car before. Maybe in the future I'll consider using a torch! Thanks so much for the positive feedback, I'm really glad you're enjoying the videos 😊 Keep in touch! 👍🏻
Nice work once again ! Those tools pay for themselves very quickly and you'll always have them available for the future. Love it.
Thank you Frank! Yes, I hope so! That was my intention, to have them for the long run and use them on more jobs! 👍🏻
Great video, keep up the great work
Thank you for the positive feedback, I'm really glad you enjoyed the video! 😊👍🏻
Well done! I think the one thing holding you back from starting these "involved" jobs is the thought that you may get half way through the job and not get any further, you then have a vehicle out of action and a big problem, but your attitude is the way to go, and the correct tool is the secret. Enjoy driving it now ! Chris B.
Exactly! 💯 And this is why I didn't hesitate on spending money on tools because I felt like I got myself into trouble and I needed to get myself out of this trouble, and at the end of the day I can always sell the tools. But honestly, Chris, I feel that, including all the costs that I incurred, it would still be cheaper for me to do it than take it to a garage. Can't wait to drive it and enjoy the fresh AC in it! 😄 Hope you're doing well, keep in touch!
@@lifeasusual You did well there, and you can never have too many tools! The only thing I would advise and that is to get rid of the curly air hose! They are a really bad idea as they are always pulled tight, and easily scratch your paintwork, just get a straight 3/8" air line, they are much better. I pushed the MAX air con button on my L322 yesterday and it really cooled me down, it is over 40 degs here now, so it needs to work well. Stay safe! Chris B.
@453421abcdefg12345 I bought the curly air hose because it's easier to pack away as I have limited space for all the tools. It's so nice having a good working AC, isn't it?! 🤩 Enjoy the great weather and stay cool! 😊
Great result! When you research these type of repairs on forums you usually get the AC tech guys jumping in with all sorts of scare advice. With a bit of skill and know how you've shown us it's doable on the driveway. Awesome!
Thank you so much Lee! Yes, that's true, but like you said, it does need a bit of knowledge and the correct tools. I did A LOT of homework before attempting this job as I didn't want to mess anything up! But yes it is doable! 😊 Thanks for watching! 👍🏻
Ģreat well done I have to change my l322 front subframe going to a challenge
Thank you so much Thomas! That's a very scary task, I've never attempted it before. I think you'll just need patience and persistence. I hope it all goes really well, keep me updated! 😊👍🏻
Hi Fayed - wow, that's dedication my friend! I'd stop before buying a £400 tool (along with all the others too). I admire your perseverance in trying to do the job yourself. Since I last commented on one of your videos (had a lot on as I'm getting a new business up and running) I've decided to use the Polish workshop about 3 miles down the road from me for all the mechanical work like this. Mine needs the rear dampers replaced now (left rear leaked its oil), plus both services belts, tensioner pulleys etc. They're very competitive and it's next day service!! How many garages do that these days? Just how they work. I always find a large GnT and a sit down listening to Gregorian Chant puts all silly ideas that I can do it out of my head! 😂 Well done for doing it yourself 👏
Hi Shane, long time no speak, great to hear from you! 👍🏻 Well, I'm also thinking about the future because I could use those tools to do future jobs as well - they're not only for this job, or at least that's what I'm thinking of. And, to be honest, at that point there was no turning back because I couldn't drive the car anymore, and it would still be cheaper than taking it to a garage and get it replaced with genuine parts. At the end of the day, of course I could re-sell the tools and save some money. Congratulations on the new business! 👏🏻 Having a trusted mechanic down the road from you is extremely helpful, I don't have anyone near me and most people don't like working on Land Rovers so my options would be either to take it back to the dealer, or take it to a specialist. Or the cheapest option, and the one I enjoy the most is to do it myself. I find a lot of value in the experience. 😊 It's never like that, next day service! If it's a Land Rover dealer or specialist, they always put me on a 2-3 month waiting list! If I'm lucky and urgent, maybe a month but with additional cost. Hahaha 😂 Sometimes it's more convenient to have someone else doing the job on the car 😅 As always, thank you for your support! Good luck with the new business and keep in touch!
This took me about 30 minutes to do on my L322. Oof. Mine doesn't have any rust to deal with. I just swapped a new arm and ball joint back in.
Hi Robert, I'm having to deal with loads of rust a they are a 2009 ball joint and arm that were never replaced, from factory. And I do a lot of off-roading. And to be honest with you, I'm not a mechanic and this is my first time to try it, so it was definitely a good learning experience. Thanks for watching and for your support! 😊👍🏻
I hope you don’t think I am being rude but 6 days and hundreds of pounds in tools!! I have done this on my 3 L322’s and it took about 35 mins a side with hand tools!! It’s hard work but possible with force!! 😀
Same. Very minimal tools needed. And less than an hour of time. Not sure what went wrong here!
No, it's okay, I didn't find it rude. My ball joints are the original joints that came with the car from 2009, so they're 15 years old, and they were very rusty, as I do a lot of off-roading. So these things happen. 😊 And just to let you know, I'm not a mechanic and this is my first time to try it, so it's all a learning experience 😃
@@robertbcope did you use heat? Or pound the poo outta the joint?
@@chriswashington7964 It just fell out for me. Undid the torx bolts and pulled it out. Very clean machine, I guess.
@@robertbcope lol you were lucky, mine had more rust than you can imagine.
Your first mistake was to undo the other end first!! This reduces the leverage of the arm!! Hammer, chisel and jack is all you need for this job!! You should only torque the bolt when the car is on the ground with the wheel on as this can effect the air suspension ride height! Glad you managed it though!! 😊
Hi Craig, I didn't start by removing the arm, I only loosened the bolt a little bit so I can make sure it would come out, and with regards to the torque, you can torque the bolts with the suspension jacked up to the correct height, which I did and I explained towards the end of the video 👍🏻😊 Thank you for your support!
Well Done Mate, 😀I do like a good powered Air hammer, Them pesky bolts/ball joints/arm bushes/sleeved exhaust pipes will not know what hit them. I do like new tools🤩Keep it my going my good friend.
Thank you so much Matt, this was a tough job! I'm looking forward to using the tools more and more; I already have some ideas to make the best out of them! 🤩 Really glad you enjoyed the content! 👍🏻 Hope you're doing well! 😃
Hello, how did you get the t50's out with the arm still in place? Great channel, you're stuff on the EGR's etc is very good.
Hi Chris! Thank you so much for the positive feedback, I'm glad you're enjoying the content! 👍🏻I was able to reach them easily after unbolting the arm from the chassis. You can turn the arm to the right, remove the screw, turn the arm to the left, and then remove the right screw. That's about it 😀 BUT it needs to be done carefully and a lot of pressure held onto the screw because it's rusty, and to avoid damaging or rounding the screw.
Thank you for taking your viewers along with you as you demonstrate how it’s possible to work on your Range Rover if you have the know how and the right tools. I admire your enthusiasm for the brand and always look forward to your next presentation
Thank you so much for watching and for your support, I'm so glad you're enjoying the content! 😊
I’d have just fitted all new arms with the bushes already in them but I’m lazy 😂❤
Haha😂 Most people would take that route instead, but I wanted to learn something new because I always watch videos on KZread with people doing bush removal, and I always thought it'd be a cool experience to have 😄 Little did I know what I'd end up getting myself into 😅 And I managed to save so much money
Thank you so much for making this video and sharing.
Thank you for the feedback and for watching! I hope it was helpful! 😊👍
Hi any thing new on the Porsche restore? hi from Prague.
Hi from UK!👋😊 I am literally working on it at the moment, as I'm replying to you! And I will be making a video on it soon! 👍Hope you're doing well!
Hey bud, so you have to remove the wheel knuckle from the car to remove the ball joint and replace the new one.Deflate the air bag first or you'll damage shock and yourself. You need to remove the following from the knuckle but leave them attached to the subrame and differential, steering link, drive shaft, upper and lower control arms, brake caliper and disc, height sensor and the shock strut (2 bolts). Sounds like a lot of work but only take about 40mins. You can then access the ball joint from top and hammer it out with a few good wacks. Replace new one before installing knuckle back on car. You can torque the 2 ball joint bolts while knuckle is off without damaging anything else. Then replace on car attaching drive shaft first then shock strut (2 bolts) and then all control arms etc. Easy peasy, you'll never get ball joint out while on car. Trust me I know. Also, I can talk you through it if you would like. Let me know and we can figure out a way to contact.
Hi Jason, thanks so much for all the tips here! 😊👍I managed to sort it out before I ended up seeing your comment and the video on the whole experience is now live on the channel! 😀
Good vid! I'm after a decent up market car mainly for towing a caravan. it was either a Volvo XC60 D4/5 (or V60 Cross Runner) or Jaguar Sportbrake 3.0D s Portfolio. However I saw an old Range Rover Vogue whilst out on a bike run with my mates over the weekend and then this video popped up! So after looking at a few on Auto Trader, the 3.6 or 4.4 (diesels) have joined the list. Had a look at your channel and there seems some good info there (watched the oil leak vid in the rain under cover - would've been interesting to see how long that took). I've subbed just in case I go down the RR route, only thing putting me off is the high tax costs.
Hi Michael, thank you very much for subscribing. I hope you will enjoy watching my content and find it valuable, and I hope it will help you in reaching a decision on whether you'd like to buy a Range Rover! 😊👍
Welldone on fixing your ac , I know you have spent a bit on your equipment but at least you can use it on other cars you own or charge friends and family 😃
Thank you so much for your support Joseph, means a lot!😊 Yes, you're exactly right, I'm planning to use it on the Porsche and VW Golf 👍🏻
Should have gotten a 4runner

Thanks very much Rob, I'm really pleased you enjoyed the content so much, and found it valuable! And thank you for sending the Super Thanks, I've never had anyone sending me Super Thanks before, it's really appreciated! 😊👍🏻We will make sure that this goes back into the channel, to make better content 😃
What another Great Video, I like the Landrover content 😀, You have gone old school with your A/C set up, I have not used that kit set up in years now. I just want to let you know, A vacuum test is not complete, has this can give a false test reading, a pressure test is need to, also the sight glass on the gauges is to see for bubbles, If it runs with out bubbles you have the right a mount gas. Well done my friend 👏
Thank you so much for your very positive feedback, I'm really you enjoyed the video! 😊👍🏻Thanks for this! Luckily, it all worked out and I managed to learn something new! I bought what was available on the market, and the cheapest 😁
Do the daytime running lights still work if the light switch is on automatic?
Yes, they do! 👍🏻
Trolley jack and chain keep going
Thank you! I heard about this method, but I've never tried it before! I'll give it a go, as well as I'm waiting for more tools to arrive as the car is still up in the air and if I succeed I'm definitely going to make a full video about it! Thank you for your support, I really appreciate it! 😊👍🏻
Would i f**k use them type of axel stands especially on a 2half tonne car
Each axel stand can hold 2 tonnes, both of them together are rated at 4 tonnes
Believe me don't give up, when you do get it out of there, you'll feel like a king. I've been there with replacing a pitman arm on truck. Best feeling around of accomplishment
I really hope I can get it out, it's been a few days now and I'm still not able to get it out, and the car is still up in the air! But I have a new tool on order and I'm hoping it can do the job! And if it works, I'm definitely going to make a video about it! Thanks so much for your support and positive words! 👍🏻🙏🏻
loosen the oil filter first, it will drain all the oil from it before removal, there are 2 drain plugs also, they both need to be opened, the other one is at the back of the sump over the cross member, a real pain to access!
Thanks Dimitri, I made this video before knowing about that, and since then I did another major service to the L322 and managed to drain the turbo plug as well! I'll leave the link for the other video here if you're interested to watch it: kzread.info/dash/bejne/q4uGu82RfbWqYpM.html 👍🏻

Hi John, thanks for this! 👍🏻 I ordered a part from Land Rover, it comes complete with everything else, I'm just waiting for that part and researching about the gassing to make sure, if I decided to do it, I do it legally. Or send it to a professional. And once it's complete, I'll make a video about it, which should be in a few days. Stay tuned!
How do I do an egr delete please
Hi Gregory, it depends on the engine that you have. You can contact GAP Diagnostic, and they should send you a remap for your ECU so you're able to close and open the EGR valves using the GAP diagnostic tool. 👍🏻 If you don't have the GAP tool, I made a video about it, this is the link: kzread.info/dash/bejne/fqOHyahrgbGxg7A.html
Hello for Greece!! Awesome work on RR and really a big Thank you for your effort to help all of us that we face same issues. Very appreciated that you have dedicated time to explain every step in each video. I have the same model and a few weeks ago i also noticed some oil leaks on my driveway. Your videos are so helpuful for the whole procedure that needs. I was wondering how do you inspect if the manifolds were cracked? I am watching your channel before this issue and I enjoy the way that you present the problem and the solutions. Again, thank you!
Hi Antonis, thank you so much for your kind words and your very positive feedback! To check if the manifolds are leaking/are cracked, it's best to use a smoke leak detector into the manifold system. Hope it helps and you get the issue sorted! 👍🏻 Thanks for all your support and watching the videos! 😊

Thank you so much for your support! 😁
Hi mate, Another great video, Just wanted to say if you can replace that leaking pipe will keep the repair cost down, then I would take it to some one that has a A/C machine and Nitrogen gas. They should use the Nitrogen gas to test the pressure in the system, 10 bar for 10 min is what i do, If passed this, then vacuum test, the length of this will be how long the system has had no gas in it. If pass then refill will the correct amount of gas and UV oil, there should be sticker telling how much gas is need under the bonnet. You can check the pressure use your gap tool. Happy cool days 🥶
Thank you so much for this, this is really important information! 👍🏻 I really want to attempt to do this myself but I'm worried that I will mess it up. But I find it very interesting to learn about it! So I may have a go at it myself just for the sake of learning 😊 Thanks for all your support 👍🏻
@@lifeasusual I do like you enthusiasm about learning. The a weight of R134a Refrigerant you will need would be very expensive trying to it with them little bottles, has I think you will need a round 700g. To buy any larger a mount than the little bottles you will a certificate to buy and the A/C machines are not cheap to buy. Hope this helps, my friend.
Thanks so much for this! 😊 It sure helps!
Well done on the problem solving. You will probably have to reset the code after you do the gas refill. The car will throw the code when it senses low pressure to protect the compressor. The gas has oil in it to lubricate the compressor so no gas, no oil.
Thank you!👍🏻 Luckily, it didn't throw any code or any warning light, the only issue is that I'm not getting any cold air coming out of the vents. But maybe I'll use the diagnostic tool to see if there's an error code that would come up, which isn't showing on the dashboard. 👍🏻 And if it does, then I would reset it. Thank you for reminding me about this because I didn't think about it.
@@lifeasusual it won't show on the dashboard
