Léonard de Vinci a passé son enfance avec son grand-père Antonio dans la campagne d'Anchiano, près de Vinci. Il a été séparé de sa mère Caterina, une femme d'une origine très particulière. Il explore librement l'environnement naturel qui l'entoure et découvre bientôt une myriade de créatures vivantes qu'il admire et apprend à aimer. À 17 ans, son père l'emmène à Florence, le principal centre artistique et humaniste d'Italie. Le jeune Léonard n'est pas accepté à l'Académie de Platon car il est considéré comme un "analphabète", une disqualification qu'il a rejetée en insistant sur le fait que la Nature était son seul maître. Léonard de Vinci mène une vie solitaire entièrement consacrée à la recherche et à l'invention. Dans l’art de la peinture, il surpasse son maître Verrocchio et crée trois tableaux inspirés de sujets religieux.

Leonardo is being assigned too much. In the reality, he did not do most of those things. He was a great master of plagiarism, con artist, and a thief. His knowledge was "borrowed" from the old manuscripts. His mechanisms were simply toys brought from China by the merchants. Leonardo slightly improved some of them. He was what we call today an industrial designer. He was ok painter and less than mediocre in sculpting. Besides that, he was full of jealousy, always snitching about others, spreading rumors, etc.

All artists copy. It is the great emulation of Art ; between artists and according to nature and things. It is ordinary at this time and Raphael drew a lot from the work of his predecessors. Leonard, like many artists who struggled and still struggled, must fight to have his Art recognized. Everything is good for paying debts, signing new contracts, continuing to create and live, escaping death and sometimes exile. Caravaggio, for example, had no interest in returning to Rome except to reconnect with the nobles and the Church present when they distrusted him and exiled him.
