"Un faune est allongé sur un rocher quand paraissent des nymphes, il les observe, puis s'approche. Effrayées, elles s’enfuient, sauf une. Mais, lorsqu'il tente de la saisir, elle s’éloigne, laissant tomber un voile à ses pieds. Le faune s’en empare, l’emporte sur son rocher et s'étend sur l'écharpe dans un acte d’amour.
De cet argument, je retiens principalement le désir du faune et l’expression de sa sensualité dans le rêve et le fantasme. Ma proposition ne fait pas référence à la Grèce antique et à ses paysages sylvestres, c'est pourquoi le rocher où il se réfugie n’est plus le tertre peint par Léon Bakst, mais une boîte de kleenex. En raison du caractère novateur de la chorégraphie, mais aussi des gestes de "bestialité érotique" effectués par Nijinski, la première représentation fut perturbée par le chahut du public. Ce plaisir charnel étant au cœur même de l'œuvre, tout comme l’original, mon faune évolue dans un monde fantasmatique et sensuel. Sauf qu'il ne s'agit pas d'une créature légendaire, mi-homme, mi-bête, mais d'un un jeune homme solitaire épanchant son désir au même souvenir flou de l'amour."

Nothing can describe how beautiful, innovative and convincing this young man was. He IS a faun, from his face to his feet, and unbelievably wonderful to witness. Bravo, bravo, bravo!

I couldn't have said it better myself.
performed in 1995. a bit unusual choreography but this is art and it strives by testing out new ideas. I liked it. the dancer was stunning too. if you all like the old Nijinsky style so much, don't look for new versions and stick to the old.

In my opinion, Nijinsky himself would have been delighted with the new choreography, especially since he himself was too sensual for his time.

There was an even more sensual performance in Tsarist Russia. Nijinsky was playing the faun in a very revealing costume. When he first appeared, the Dowager Tsarina fixed the stage with a glare and walked out. Nijinsky was sacked immediately.

Mesmerizing. The dancer & the dance. As the choreographer is also the performer, it seems he must have been aware of his own beauty as well as that of the dance. I'm curious if he is str8 or gay. After watching, I'm almost certain I am the latter.

I prefer the Nijinsky.
The dancer is beautiful! But the dance is not clear. There is a classic version of this performance with libretto by Nezhinsky.
Now I would like to see this dancer go back and internalize every thing that he did. And by the way this does not work without the nymph (or other being) to whom the faun is reacting.
