L.A. socialite found guilty of running down 2 boys in hit-and-run

A jury on Friday found Hidden Hills socialite Rebecca Grossman guilty in the deaths of Jacob Iskander, 8, and Mark Iskander, 11, who were hit and killed in a crosswalk in Westlake Village in 2020. Grossman, 60, was convicted of two counts of second-degree murder, two counts of vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence, and one count of hit-and-run driving resulting in death.
Following a six-week trial, the jury deliberated for nearly two days before handing down the unanimous verdict on Friday afternoon at Van Nuys Superior Court. Crying could be heard from both sides of the courtroom when the verdict was read.
On Sept. 29, 2020, the two boys were crossing the street in a marked crosswalk with their parents and siblings at the intersection of Triunfo Canyon Road and Saddle Mountain Drive at around 7:10 p.m. when Grossman struck them, prosecutors said. The vehicle sped through the intersection and hit the boys "right in front of the parents," according to the L.A. County Sheriff's Department. Prosecutors said Grossman was going over 70 mph on a 45 mph street.

You wouldn’t feel that way if you were indicted for a crime! The justice system is designed to try to not prosecute someone that isn’t guilty, and or to gather enough evidence to have that person found guilty by a jury.

As a retired fatal accident detective I am most appalled at the fact that she did not even try to render aid to the children AND ran away. In Arizona failure to render aid in a fatal accident is a separate and very serious charge. And the 3 1/2 years to trial end is the fault of the criminal justice system there.

Therefore, my thoughts are with the Iskander's youngest son who was 5 years old at the time of his two brothers' murders. Nobody ever talks about the "younger brother" who survived. My heart goes out to him. For him, and everyone else, this is a nightmare that never goes away. To be tormented by this nightmare at the early childhood age of 5 years old...is just unfathomable. This is a gross example of how much of a double standard there is when it comes to regular citizens and rich idiots! It took almost 4 years to find her guilty, and she hasn't even been sentenced to jail time. If it had been the other way around and that family had ended her kid's lives, they would have been in jail, and their kids would have been taken away immediately! I hate our system and the crap people who run it.

Court scheduling backlogs (especially in big cities) can do that. And in the case of the wealthy (a team of lawyers available to file multiple motions) and/or the politically connected, the process can be slowed down even further. Does that happen _all_ the time? No... but just a quick glance at certain currents events shows how the aforementioned can slow down (and too often stop) the wheels of justice.
