Cocked and Loaded is a great album. It was a perfect follow up to the Self titled album. And Hollywood Vampires was incredible...What I love most about LA Guns is that they evolved each album and gave you a different side of them each album. Vicious Circle was killer as well, and they're last two albums remind me of a great mix of the early albums

I agree with everything that you said. I have been a huge fan of LA Guns for many years, but I stopped following them when Traci left the band. I got back on board when Traci teamed up with Phil again and I heard the song Speed. The last album that Traci did with LA Guns before he left Waking The Dead is another amazing album. I even love the album that Jizzy Pearl did Shrinking Violet alot as well.

Nothing they did topped the debut. It was raw and fantastic.

Saw these guys on that first tour opening for Def Leppard. They absolutely killed it! They played like they just broke outta prison and weren’t going back. The choruses had everyone singing along, from the nosebleeds to the front row. NO MERCY!!!

Traci was one of the better guitarists of that genre.

Great to hear Jim's voice again! It's been a long time. Did my first record with him in 1994.

I love the first L.A.GUNS album and I HATE APPETITE FOR DESTRUCTION...SHITTY ALBUM SOOOOO OVERRATED!!!

Fantastic album I can’t believe it only went gold hell I bought 4 copies of it on cassette and CD back in the day from 88-92 I would lose a tape I’d loan it out and not get it back or something that’s why we had to buy new ones anyway killer album all killer no filler it’s great. One of my favorites of all time.

I was good for three, Tape for the car and beach, album in the house, and CD later on after the tape had died. Debut was my favorite as well.

Thanks for the L.A. Guns stuff! As a kid we looked at them as same as GnR early on as well. Tracii is still a monster player. Phil’s voice is also still incredible. Held up better than most of his peers from then.

Agreed. GNR , LAGUNS and Faster Pussycat. Those were my bands back then. GNR lasted one album ,appetite. LAGUNS put out a lot of great albums. Faster pussycats probably had 3 good albums

Phil’s voice is nearly best in the business from that era or any rock era... actually. Tracii is better than ever and finally really getting his just due. The current line up is solid AF! For me however, Cocked n Loaded was my first go to! I’ve heard some of these stories... Pretty darn accurate.

These are amazing interviews. The interviewer is a true fan and great journalist. He asks insightful questions, out of the norm questions and he lets the person elaborate their answers without interrupting or trying to compete with them or make himself their equal, like Eddie Trunk does, which is awful. And Jim is the coolest most eloquent guy from the era. Awesome chanel.

I agree with him. Live I want to hear the mistakes and stuff. That's what makes us human. If I want to hear a computer perform I'll do just that, but I loved the raw dirty sound of LA Guns. They rocked man! I've played guitar for 45 years and would have loved to have played or jammed with Traci.

@@fullinbloom Gypsy Blue in Dallas 86-88 played regionally. Loaded Gunn from late 88- 90 was lucky enough to get back out playing across the states again. And finally Divine Tragedy 90-95 mostly local and regional Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana. But none of them had the appeal or drawing power of the Sweet Savage days,84-85 were amazing times to be in a band with Joey and the guys.

Another Excellent Interview!! Full In Bloom - production / voice quality / compression leveling / questioning / intro & fade out song choice....total perfection! This channel totally has me hook, line and sinker. You deserve to be blaring out on a 100,000 watts of power with a major FM Radio Network.

I forgot how good this was.. It popped up within my feed so had to have a listen again.. Tracy is one of my hero's on guitar.. Just a great guitarists. I loved his style.. Kinda like mine really and I've been playing since 77.. Very cool man.. The best interviews on this channel!

LA Guns at the Metroplex in Atlanta.. early 1988. I was one of 25 people in the club and they blew my mind. Tracii wasn't much older than me but he was a guitar GOD. One of the best shows I've ever seen. The record doesn't do the band justice at all. You can't compare Phil Lewis with Axl Rose.. Phil blew Axl off the stage 10000%

The first 3 albums are fantastic, and still in my regular rotation

Killer album that did not get the credit it so really deserved

L.A. Guns has recently played in Vegas before the shutdown. Still going.

Saw LA Guns open for Def Leppard and a huge fan since. Named my band Never Enough because of them and it's in our set every gig. Our singer struggles with the high end vocals but it's fine and love to play it.

These interviews with pics is really well done. There's a couple other channels dealing W 80s rock but this is most interesting. Thanks

SWEET PAIN was a pre- L.A Guns band for Kelly Nichols. Fun. Punkish. Street. They even did a LA Guns song BEFORE LA Guns recorded it.

Just gold? What a shame. I loved that album too. "Sex Action" and "Electric Gypsy" are still in my playlists today. If you like GnR, you need to check them out if you haven't, also Faster Pussycat's self titled album. It's awesome and I still listen to it all the way through probably at least twice a month.

Between this and the ‘waste some time’ interview, you can tell Paul was a mess and wasn’t gonna cut the mustard. Jaded yes, but they ultimately made the right call....and we’re all grateful for Phil’s stellar vocals.

I definitely liked some of the songs on Cock & Loaded. You're right, the production is great. But I thought the first album was a pure classic, perfect from start to finish....and I liked the production on that album, too...I think it fits the band perfectly. I do respect your love for the other albums, though.

Between tracii guns and mick crips, Frankie hannon and Tommy skeoch from Tesla and then snake sabo and scotti hill of skid row. These guys have had such a massive influence in my guitar playing from guys of my generation. Tracii guns is probably my favorite....but then again Frankie is great..... well on second thought.....snake....hahahahaah

I was in post exchange on post, and I bought the self title cd by mistake. I couldn't return it because I open it, and figured I'll just listen to it and if I don't like I'll just won't listen to it anymore, instead I love the cd.

LA Guns debut is not as aggressive a production as Appetite or Faster Pussycat's first record but embodies the LA sleaze vibe more than those records.

I disagree in that I have always believed that Faster Pussycats first album especially Taime's vocals reflected the sleeze of the Sunset Strip more than any band from that era....but LA Guns debut is a close second!

Mike Tafoya is a monster guitar player

I knew someone who worked for their management company when they got signed. I saw them live a number of times in L.A. clubs. Great band. I was thrilled to see them open for Maiden in '88. I hoped they would have gotten a whole lot bigger because they were a very good band, put on a great live show. And Tracii's a true shredder. They were cool guys, very down to earth. Tracii and Steve Riley were cool. I had seen Steve with W.A.S.P. just a year before I saw LA Guns live for the first time on the Electric Circus tour. Very solid drummer, very underrated.

I got to the party late and discovered L.A. Guns on the Cocked & Loaded album so it's always been my preference. Love the stories about the debut though 🤘🏼

this album had a huge impact on me. pushed me to be a better guitar player and it was just a down and dirty record with great songs.

A friend of mine and myself loved the first LA Guns album far more than GNR but we thought the mix on it wasn't good. It has no volume and has a scooped sound with no midrange. Like it wasn't mastered right or something

I got a remastered version of LA Guns first album and it sounds way better than the original. A company called Rock Candy released the first album and Cocked And Loaded remastered a few years ago. They also released Ratt's first four albums, Winger's first two albums, Dokken's first five albums including the live album Beast From The East , and many other albums. They sound way better. I am glad that someone finally did.

Steve Riley was also in a great 70's band called Roadmaster from Indianapolis.

The only time I've seen Tracii Guns, I shit you not, was with his league of gentleman thing he put together for 5 minutes, and I was the only person who showed up, besides the people behind the bar. If they played an hour, it seemed like he solo'd for 55 minutes of it, LOL EDIT: I should have stated, that first record is killer, I thought Nicky Alexander did a great job, and the drums have a great organic sound vs that clap of thunder triggered snare popular at the time. I think the mix is great, everything is out front when listening, a production that stands the test of time IMO

This record definitely has to have gone platinum by now, if not, someone isn't counting correctly ON PURPOSE. I wasn't into G&R until years after both these recordings came out. The rawness and cleanliness of the tracks on this record was a breath of fresh air at the time. It was almost as the record was done in my ears in one or two takes regardless of what this interview reveals. I knew a road manager of LAG and you couldn't meet a better group of guys. Cocked is an excellent record, overproduced to be sure, but great nonetheless. In closing, "Kiss My Love Goodbye" in my opinion was one of the best singles released by any rock or hair band at the time of it's release. The chorus, hooks, melody, it was played every 30 minutes in LA on the radio at the time. And, it was not overproduced like Cocked, it should have been the single of the decade in my opinion. If you haven't heard it, I highly recommend everyone download it ASAP. God Damn was that song catchy!!! Kudos to Riley for the epic intro drum lick! 🤘

This record is great! Paul Black demos are very cool.

Dave Jerden produced Jane's Addiction Nothing's Shocking, as well as the 1st 2 AnC albums, if not more. Terry Date produced the 1st 2 albums for "NUDEDRAGONS"

God I'm dying laughing because of the glory days are over and the different band versions. Too funny!

LA Guns was the Closest thing to Guns. I gotta admit Over the Edge is a powerful ballad, but not really a power ballad. Phil's voice was exceptional on that track

They always put out good records, except American hard-core. I always wondered why they never became a top tier band in the 80s. Traci is a monster player, great live still.

He engineered and co-produced Poison's Look What the Cat Dragged In as well as working as an engineer on three Ratt albums.

I loved LA Guns and just learned all the cool songs on the debut album were written by their first singer Paul Black. I lived Phil’s voice though. The first drummer gave the debut album an awesome punk/metal feel. Steve Riley, as much as I love the guy ruined the bands sound

Tracci was the band really. At least that's how it was portrayed. He was like a cross be Slash and DeMartini.

The Cover is great too. I liked LA Guns but GnR then AIC kinda opened up my Rock world. Funny thing is people say Grunge killed hair, but I was also listening to Duran, Tears, even Culture Club in 83 84. So Grunge really only killed music that was naff and it took down a couple good bands like LA. Shame but people move on. Coming back to the stories doesn't really push me to listen to the music but hair dominated my life from 83 - 90. They definitely have the best stories. I mean no one wants to hear that E Vedder writes poetry while smoking a joint! We love the Dirt hehe

More like '82. Pyromania came out at the beginning of '83. I mentioned Girl during the interview because that band actually achieved some success. I was aware that the group had completely disbanded several years prior.

I have to disagree a bit with some of their input - I think the second record was much better (song wise, guitar and vocal wise, and creativity wise) than the first. The production on the second was a bit overdone and lost the rawness/street vibe, but still the material was much stronger. Also the production on the first record sounded very rushed and semi amateurish (especially the snare sound sticks out). That being said, bitch is back was a great song.

As far a talent, pure song writing, singing,lead guitar,rhythm guitar, bass,drums, alot better than guns and roses. Never had issues touring live, super hardworking band. And the last 2 albums are solid like the hollwood sound. Where guns and roses never have had a good album other than appetite for destruction. 1 album wonder. But I do love that album its in my top ten. Its just silly to compare gnr to la guns. Axl sounds like shit. Phil still sounds great. Tracii is way better lead guitarist than slash can ever be.

Gotta disagree there. LA guns are great, but there’s a reason sweet child and November rain are timeless hits that everyone knows.

There is nothing worse than 2 bands playing gigs with the same name, playing the same songs. It destroys the brand, and both bands lose in the end.

Kelly n Mick weote ballad of Jayne, Steve was the business guy not Mick

Easily found facts. Paul Black wrote nearly all of the songs on the debut. Surprisingly, Mick wrote most of the catchy riffs on the first 2 albums. Kinda makes you wonder if the band owes most of their success to those 2 guys. This producer is delusional, it seems. He states that everything was basically recorded and they just recorded Phil's vocals for the final cut. He then states that Traci and Phil were the principle writers? No, the album was completed before Phil. He changed words not lines, verses or melodies. A wealth of info on the Traci Gibson episode.

Why don't you ask "honest honorable" Phil or Tracii WHY they blatantly STOLE Paul Mars Black's music (with help from Tracii Ulrich-Guns' help of course) and then proceeded to change some lyrics and call it his own. The band then used majority of that stolen material to create (and sell loads of) their first album. But that's not all. Phil continues to this day to badmouth, run down, and demean Paul Black's artistic talents, his singing ability, and his so called "reason for being kicked out of L.A. Guns years ago", in the media. To this day, this guy Lewis is sooo insecure and ungrateful for what he was literally handed on a silver platter, he can't help himself from discreditting the guy he replaced and stole music from. Phil wasn't satisfied with just stealing Black's songs, his vocal style, and his place as lead singer of L.A. Guns. That wasn't enough. He actually has the audacity to criticize Black (unprovoked) for years everywhere in the media. Paul's life, his career (being buried in lawsuits for years over the stolen songs cost him any chance to further his musical way with later bands), his everything was destroyed by L.A. Guns, and specifically the band's label,Tracii, Phil, and even Steve Riley later on. These guys are as dishonest, disrespectful, and pathetic of human beings as you can ever find. Yet their "fans" gloss over all the bands' shortcomings and act as if they are some class act. This band has had absolutely NO integrity or care or respect for other musicians or human beings in general. And I am only making reference to thir horrible treatment of Paul Mars Black. L.A. Guns has hurt, mistreated, and betrayed MANY other musicians/artists over the years. But hey, they must think that their rewriting of their own history/past/bio will cover their asses for all the horrible things they've done and all the people they used and hurt over the years...>
