This rollicking recording from Malwa, Madhya Pradesh captures the spirit of satsang in this region. The words of the 15th century radical saint poet Kabir come alive in the bodies of singers, players, clappers and dancers - urging themselves to not sleep, to wake up to their inner power! Politics and 'masti' (playfulness) come together in a heady blend - giving a taste of freedom in the body, giving power and selfhood to people whose lives outside of the satsang may often be difficult on account of class or caste. Many youth and older people here revere both Kabir and Ambedkar, twin deities - spiritual and political - in their struggle for dignity.

Ramprasad Atariya is a farmer and vegetable vendor from Dhunsi village in Malwa, Madhya Pradesh. Seeing him sing and dance to Kabir is both an exhilarating and humbling experience - to recognise the uncomplicated joy he receives and transmits through his being. Singing and clapping along in this video is Ramprasad’s mother, sitting to his left. The second elder dancer to spring to his feet is Narayan Singh Delmia, a folk singer and activist, widely respected in Malwa for his lively spirit and ability to motivate people. He brings together folk singers of the region on the 2nd of each month in a 'Manch' (platform) to sing and discuss the meanings of Kabir. The journeys exploring the eternal truths by Kabir understood by local artists, humble poets, scholars, saints and wanderers in their own diverse yet similar ways gave me so much understanding of what Kabir was. I do not have words to explain the happiness, contentment and peace I feel after listening to these humble melody of words which give a humane yet cosmic resonance inside me. Real Celebration of love
My salutations to the AjabShahar/ Kabir Project team. You guys have done a tremendous job. Kabir's magic is in his words and I really thank you for all the subtitles so everyone could understand every word spoken. I constantly listen to all the songs/ bhajans and they are always a reminder for me to look for my true SELF. Thank You for saying that. I have done the same thing with the Kabir/AjahShahar Project. She has done an excellent job to bring Kabir's genius to the forefront, more importantly, this might lead many souls to enlightenment!
