@@josephsale6254 they had bare knuckled fight but eschewed that cos of broken fists and serious injuries. But do remember repeated hard hits to the head can be very damaging in the long run

Its actually kickboxing not karate at all What karate kihon do you see here no blocking ,stances or even punching like karate.What lyoto machida does in mma is what karate could look like if trained realistically.

This should be a middle finger to all those who say that we Kyokushin practitioners don't take punches to the face!

Real Kyokushin as it was teached by mas oyama had both punches and elbows to the face. Whoever says the opposite just denies history

@@deformitygurubashi In Kyokushin, there are some rules that are different to each other. If we are talking about Chokusetsu Dageki, it means no head punches allowed. If we are talking about Shinken Shobu, it means Head Punches are allowed. If we are talking about Jissen Kumite, then Head Punches and Judo Grapplings are allowed.

When You jump in there with the no head punches and You can see just how combative it really is. Have some additional sparring/fighting with gloves and head punches and You become well rounded.

Yes! I've always respected kyokushin practitioners, and now that's gone up a notch. I believe ALL kyokushin matches should be done with these rules; more realistic. Thank you to the organizers and participants. Great training. Osu!

@@syo577 I'm strong believer that You should sparr with gloves and punches to head on top of the Kyokushin curriculum. Nothing wrong with Kyokushin, just have to add the gloves and head punches some times.

No-one puts on gloves for the streets. Kyokushin Karate was created to be used in real life on the streets.

BS if the thai could use gloves he could try and hit the head using hands and elbows. on the other hand, if the kk had to use gloves he could not deal with them, he simply never used them. they would limit his striking skills....limit the way kk strikes !!! so, perhaps the best rules is no rules..if you want to fight a different styl just because of that style, then accept them as they are...

With head punches/elbows this will be the best Martial art ever

I think if karate would still be like this people would actually respect it

Do your research, not all karate is only Kyokushin. Okinawan karate styles like Goju Ryu have sparrings reminding combat sambo it is called Irikumi Go

Completely different from the vast majority of Kyokushin fights. It just shows when head punches are allowed then everyone goes for that as their number one target.

This is a really cool ruleset. However, I have to critique the karatekas. Given the allowance of head shots they are sloppy as hell with their punches compared to bodyshots. And they put all their eggs into one basket because of that allowance. They know they just need a well placed punch to the face for a KO. They don't even try to punch the body, go for a knee, an elbow, sweep, or takedown.

That's good, so i guess some dojos still teach head punches and defense extensively. Would love to train it, but in my vicinity all i can find is shotokan and the bouncy bullshit version of karate.

@@ToasterDsG shotokan can be effective if you train it right, but you can't deny most dojos focus heavily on kata and their kumite is a complete joke, bouncing around, barely touching each other and screaming like idiots. I remember a dude winning a medal in the last Olympics by getting knocked out with a head kick.......

It’s fascinating to see if they incorporate punches in the face it immediately becomes like Dutch kickboxing.

@@aidanpaim805 True. Dutch kickboxing has it's roots in original kyokushin. Original curriculum has headpunches and elbows. Mas oyama included those in his karate after he got teached in cambodia the bando box tecniques. Kyokushin without headpunches is just for a traditional form of competition.

Just make it bareknuckle and allow head punches, they should immediately think twice about sloppy head punching otherwise risk breaking their hands. In vid they are wearing gloves..

It is what it is.

Original Kyokushin curiculum always included head punches and elbows. Mas oyama included those in his karate after studying bando box in cambodia. Also included throws and pivots inspired by aiki jutsu techniques. The thing is that lots of people are confusing the term martial art and combat sport. Combat sports have rulesets to promote competition and sportsmanship. Martial arts are about real environment situations. no point systems, no protection gears and no rulesets. Both are good to exist and both are useful for self improvement. Each for their special aspect.

That's what dutch kickboxing basically is, kyokushin, boxing and a little muaythai

Hardcore fighters, but gloves don’t belong in kyokushin. Oyama would almost certainly say the same thing.

Looks like it is becoming Muay Thai. If they remove the gloves and add Judo it will be better.

But as it is it looks like mt because they're keeping distance and almost standing still, which would be impossible if they were ready to use or defend tds. That said, I just really want to see bare-fisted karateka punch each other in the face :D

Muay Thai is very diferent, they use more clinch, elbows and knees, and also the kick techniques are diferent. The rules can be similar but the way to fight is diferent. And also theres no rounds, no 10 seconds count, is based on Ippon Karate system, so is very diferent.

I get why they didn't want to allow headshots in kyokushin. They wanted the "realistic feel" of having full contact, but didn't want all the hand injuries. My question is: Why didn't they just use palm strikes instead then?

I know your comment was 8 months ago, but to answer your question palm strikes to the face have 3 very bad possible outcomes, one is breaking your fingers on your opponents forehead, and the second is accidentally or intentionally gouging out the eyes of your sparring partner, and the 3rd is breaking nose in a very bad way (upward palm strikrs to the nose can kill, look it up.) Remember, you're moving and your sparring partner is moving so it's kinda hard to do a controlled and precision palm strike to the face while the body is a much larger target thus making it easier to do controlled punches that won't maim your sparring partner for life and won't break your fingers.

There are more kicks in Karate then in Kickboxing and Karate has superior conditioning to kickboxing. I'm very much interested in cross training Kyokushin Karate and Kickboxing,

Like a man who had boxing experiance and begin training kickboxing with trainer black belt kyokushin karate former national team member. I dare everyone so called boxing experts , boxing monsters , competitors , trainers etc . Go to nearest kyokusin karate club take light sparring kiokushin rules .

all this shows is that karate doesn't teach good boxing fundamentals. what am i watching, 2 ppl who trained karate without headstrikes for decades, then one day they decided "lets show the world that karate is a complete martial art" and put some gloves on? nice kicks, but their boxing is just brawling

@@CorporaMedicina Japanese kickboxing was born through karatekas dissatisfied with semi-contact, along with Burmese boxing and Muay Thai. It is worth mentioning Kenji Kurosaki a Kyokushin karateka who mixed his karate with Muay Thai Being one of the pioneers of Japanese kickboxing being considered by some as a creator of the style. Dutch kickboxing would later emerge from his academy. American Kickboxing, on the other hand, came up with Joe Lewis who even held the first kickboxing match in America and won, he was world karate champion and was one of the pioneers.
