Kwesta Speaks On 'God Guluva', The Loss Of Friendships, Relationships & Trust | Backyard Sessions

Ойын-сауық

Rapper Senzo Vilakazi famously known as Kwesta, has been the topic of discussion for a couple of days now with his brand new album "G.O.D Guluva"which was prepared for almost a year prior to its release.
With the major release, sparked a lot of controversy that surfaced the internet with industry peers and work partners Nota, Leeroy, Makwa and DJ Maphorisa bringing the topics of "royalties owed" and "trust" to the table. Siya Metane got to sit down with Kwesta to have a discussion and an even deeper insight (in context) of what the public should be informed about.
Kwesta engages on the topics of his loss of friendships and working relationships because of the prime root of problems - money, which caused the fallouts. The rapper also speaks on being on his own and having to feel that he has a hand in part of the problem he is facing.

Wisdom, that’s why I distanced myself. He needs to stop using people as crutches because that’s how he allows them to use him. He’s a grown man now and he has a family to raise. He must stand on his own two feet and raise his family. He must be honest with himself in life as he is in his music!

Why didn't you guide this King? Why didn't he ask for advice or guidance? He sounds like a brilliant idiot, and I say that with the deepest respect. How does he not own his music after so long? How don't you know how a business runs after so long?

That was a very deep conversation you had there with Kwesta Bra Slikour. I think it was very much needed for Kwesta. I am not wishing to voice out what I could gather from the convo, but I want to say this: How I wish the same support that was offered to Kwesta was also offered to Makwa as it is also much needed for Makwa too. For whatever reasons, somehow Kwesta became the victim of Lavida and Bara, exactly the same way Makwa became the victim of the whole 3. The situation Makwa is currently in is actually dire and there is no doubt that Makwa is as important to the industry as Kwesta is, they carry the same community burden. Kwesta somehow localized Hip Hop, just like ProKid, he made every little Kasi kid believe that exactly the way they are, they are enough, they do not need to speak English with an accent to be top rappers, that's what Makwa is: Makwa is proving to everyone that talent cannot be bought, you are just born with it. The work Makwa is doing in that Mzonkonko Records is testament on its own. Kwesta himself knows how import Makwa was/is in his music, and I think it is fair that the same support we are rightly giving to Kwesta, is the one we should also be giving Makwa.

This is the second time hearing Kwest's side of the story and picked up the following : 1. Allowing Urbantainment to broker the deal with Sony on his behalf while not owing the company was a big mistake. It, unfortunately, gives Nota a leg to stand on because his company was used to broker the deal. 2. The salary system doesn't work for showbiz, it will much simpler if people get paid as they perform or work. 3. These guys must just let this beef go and continue with their careers. They all made mistakes and mustn't let that define the rest of their journies. 4. Nota appears to be the one person that keeps fueling this beef on social media maybe because he feels entitled to certain things, but he keeps damaging his reputation in the process

Senzo made a lot of mistakes and he’s human, we all do. He blind sided himself on a lot of things and trusted everyone, that’s why things led to this. I respect the fact that he’s owning up to it by firstly realizing he wasn’t 100% much in the administration. The people he trusted to sort it out decided to be greedy and with a lot of trickery. Siya thanks for sitting down with the gent and letting him pour out, and for also giving him brotherly advice on this industry. It was deep but pretty much necessary. Much respect and love 👊🏾
