The former NBA first overall pick Kwame Brown, often known for being outspoken and his public rants about life, society and what’s wrong with culture and sports, joins The Pivot today for an in-depth conversation about who he truly is as a man and what he stands for.
Ryan, Channing and Fred sit down with Kwame to peel back the layers of this once basketball great and find out if it’s anger or frustration that fuel his words.
Selected as the first overall pick at age of 19 in 2001, Kwame talks about his experience as a child and rough upbringing to making it out to discover a life as not just a professional basketball player, but one of the best in the country at his young age.
Kwame talks about playing with Michael Jordan, the misconceptions of his rookie year and why he was labeled a problem player and later known as a bust. He shares his experience of playing with Kobe Bryant and being on the court for the legend’s historic 81 point performances and also how Kobe shaped him as a better player and man.
Sharing his truth regarding past issues and incidents between his ongoing battle with Stephen A Smith, the use of the word bust and former players speaking out on him- Kwame is not holding back and using his voice as an open book through his platform.
Working now to help today’s youth and provide an outlet and teach through his experiences, Kwame is focused on bringing reality to young men in the community and helping them evolve into better people with hope through opportunities.

He had to work on top of practice and maintaining good grades just to pay the bills and have a place to sleep when all his older bros/unc were in jail (i was a student athlete this isnt light), etc. Most people in his position wouldve fell to gang life/ or the streets to get money to help their family, especially in poverty stricken areas. He couldve ended up like his brothers and most his older figures. Shit is really not rocket science.

Great interview! Thank you to the fellas from The Pivot for having Kwame Brown share his amazing story. This is an interview that I would suggest to my friends and family to watch. God bless all these men.

Kwame is one humble down to earth dude, that kept it real since he been on Podcasts, and stood tall against everyone that came with negativity about him, and he shot them all down ✊🏿👊🏾
Love Kwame man, the way he explains the current media state is perfect. One of the best episodes of the Pivot I’ve ever seen. Keep doing you Kwame, you’re an impactful human being and we appreciate you for that.

It wasn’t hard to sift through Kwame’s rants [for lack of a better word] months ago and see clearly his underlying high-intelligence and common-sense perspective. Hats off to the Pivot crew for a mature, enlightening and respectful dialogue. This episode made my heart so happy. I am routing for all of you great men. ✨✨✨

@@Avmuhammad64 100%. If you paid attention to you his videos, this interview wasn't surprising at all. I understand that some people would've viewed him a certain way but if you listened to what he was actually saying and gave it some thought you could see that he was speaking lots of truths and addressing things that other people in the media can't or won't address. He's a real one and hopefully this interview will help more people see that.

Such a well spoken man that has been through "LIFE". He keeps talking about the kids. This is the type of person our kids need to look up to, not all these devil worshippers.
Respect to Kwame and the guys at The Pivot. They allowed what every other media outlet didn’t allow you to do and that’s was express yourself and get an understanding of who you are. Thanks guys

THIS WAS IT!!! A few of us were waiting on this one. Legendary. I'm so happy the Pivot squad LISTENED to Kwame and came to really understand who he is. It's a considerable pleasure seeing MEN sit down and unpack REAL LIFE together. cutting through rumors and media propaganda. Grateful Kwame came out. We got some of "Mama's seasoning" this one is top 3 in my books. Keep winning THE PIVOT!!!
I had the honor to meet him playing at a friends football birthday party. He is a very genuine dude. Spoke to him quite a bit and had great conversation. I’m to the point he knows his calling in the season he is in!

Lord, at 14yrs working and taking care of Mom🙆♂️🙆♂️ who does that? At 14yrs I was having so much fun with my friends in High School. Can you imagine if there was a Warriors Organization with a Steve Kerr back in the Day? Just imagine what Kawme legacy would be!! Always admire this Youngman. When he was drafted MJ spoke about his upbringing it was such an amazing story. Yet he never had the right Coach or role model. That's why I love Steph, Klay, Dray and Izzy. The way they help those young guys on the team is just amazing. Respect Kawme Big Up Yourself ❤️❤️

Good job Kwame for articulating and standing on your principles. Your journey brought you to this point where you’re confident and have a backbone. Most of these “successful” athletes are afraid to speak their truth and sold out for money. Keep your integrity and stand tall.
