+Noor Elahi Those are originally Chinese engineered/manufactured cars that Kantanka just assembles. Those vehicles do not meet the US safety standards as of now and so will not be available for sale in the US.

Very impressive. It seems Kantanka is finally coming into the big leagues. He is fortunate to have his son take interest and take over. Nations develop through individual initiatives, enterpreneurship and profit seeking in conjunction with governmental vision to collect taxes, build infrastructures, and all these help to develop the nation for all and create jobs and opportunities. It is for this reason that some governments with vision often will provide specific loans and financing for farmers, small businesses, and thus help the whole nation. The Wright Brothers, Thomas Edison, Alexander Graham Bell, perhaps would not have been able to single handedly bring aviation, electricity and telecommunications, respectively, to help mankind to this level with self-financing. Interest rates in Ghana is simply too high (30-39% for long term and sometimes 80-100%+ short term), and government needs to come in to control this and/or offer low interest rates for businesses. Even so-called arch capitalist America offers low interest loans. Question is: Has Kantanka ever approached government or not? The PNDC closed down the only auto assembly plant in Ghana in early 1980s and today it is known that unemployment rate is in excess of 50-75% of high school and college educated youth, even though government claims it is only 5.2%. Since early 1980s we import every car and vehicle and most equipment. Kantanka should be encouraged, and that goes with creation of thousands of jobs to come to the youth of Ghana, instead of the fraudulent dishing out of $100 million to RLG and $100 million or more diverted funds meant for GYEEDA and another $200 million or so for SADA that we hear of.

We Africans copy blindly, why am I saying this? We have ECOWAS and AU like the EU and sooner or later, we shall have a common currency in our sub region. Obviously that's copying from the West blankly. AU and ECOWAS are not supporting countries to develop in resolving some of the most challenging issues confronting Africans except war interventions. Look at this extra ordinary effort from Kantanka and he is doing in house financing, how do we expect his products to be affordable without help from the Ghana government nor any of the bodies stated above? It's really a shame but I'm glad Kantanka isn't discouraged in anyway but soldiering on.

Hi J. O. Owusu, In answering your question, one will have to call on a lot of information. But to make it easier to understand, I will attempt to break it down into smaller chunks and also ensure that I start from the root-cause as much as I can so that you can best grasp why not just the Ghanaian government is responding they way they are, but also the African governments in general. ROOT/FOUNDATIONAL CAUSES 1). Slave Trade and the latter Colonialism of Africans has left a psychological bitter taste in their mouths wherein they constantly think that the Whiteman is superior. Since this is the case, they think in these terms: "Let us leave the 'Inventing' to them and do the buying instead; For, we are not and never going to be good enough to be able to accomplish these mental fits". You will observe this behavior...this resolve even with African Americans who themselves think that their level of success...their future is determined by the Whiteman. As a result, any obstacles inn life are attributed to racism rather than the obvious "Self-Defeatism Syndrom". 2). Despite the supposed termination of Colonial rule, the existing structures that enabled this socio-economic and political domination was not torn down. As a result, we still have in existence Neo-Colonialism where the Whiteman still dictates every major policy on the planet. Rather than resist and try to be independent, the Black Race instead decided to comply in order not to shall I say: 'Rock The Boat". So, what these colonially-based structures do is continue with the inherent policy of slavery and colonialism by maintaining the structures therein. OTHER CAUSES 3). There is also the geographical location and natural spread of the local potentates in Africa. These are predominantly small. In other words, a King, Chief or Local Ruler leads an ethic or a group of related ethnic groups only. The biggest ever recorded in History were Ghana, Mali and Songhai Empires. Basically, the issue here is that most kingdoms in Africa and small geographically buy disunited. This has made it easy to prey on one and to use one against the other but other races. The lack of unity therefore makes it possible to get them well exploited. Thus, once an idea is sold to one part pf the peoples of Africa, it is easy to get it sold to the rest of it. Please keep this point in mind because we will re-visit it in the next explanation below. 4). Given the foundational causes discussed above, please bear in mind that these have psychological effects on the Africans who now accept that they are the 'Inferior Race'. This seeming general acceptance which has not geographical bounds-(as in with the African Americans in America), along side the rather naturally disunited state of the African peoples has made it easy to sell in the idea that: Africans are no good and could never be good enough to do anything right; They must rely on other races to lead the way; The physical evidences of White supremacy must not be taken for granted; Leave the lead role and dictation as well as Master position to them since Africans are supposed to be Followers and not Leaders; Given the negative thought above borne out of the psychological effects of Slave Trade, Colonial Rule & Neo-Clonialism, Africans generally and not just the Ghanaian Government has resolved...resigned itself to supporting inventions from other races other than its own people. But, is that all? No! 5). There is also the seeming general increased levels of greed and selfishness observed amongst Africans as compared to other races. Elementarilly put: "If you give a White politician a million bucks to provide X infrastrutural facilities, they use 90% of the funds and embezzle 10%. But should you give the same amount to an African politician, only 10% is used and 90% embezzled". Remember also that this greed makes it easier for them to get bribed by other races to adopt certain rather retrogressive policies in their own countries on their own peoples. Look around Owusu...look closely and you will find deprivation, poverty and anguish in the lives of Africans while their leaders leave in luxury. Are you in any way surprised that the only developed part of Africa was that which was held politically by the Whiteman...South Africa? What therefore can be inferred from the above "observed" extrapolation from the acts of both races? The African politician seems to be way greedier! The question you may be asking at this point is: "What has greed got to do with all this"? Simple: Because the African leader has a greater propensity to be greedier as compared to other races; coupled with the already existing psychological disease of inferiority complex and low self esteem they suffer which as I explained above was as a result of Slave Trade, Colonialism and Neo-Colonialism, the Black Leader consequently gravitates towards leaving the inventing to the other races and ignoring his own talents. They therefore never come to believe that that neighbor of yours Kwasi Jersy is good enough to invent anything. Remember the Biblical saying: "A Prophet Is Honored Everywhere Except In His Own Country & By His Own People" And so, the Ghanaian Government...the general African Leaders do not believe in and support any attempts by its peoples to invent anything. Be rest assured that there are loads more reasons, but for the sake of the length of this write-up, I have provided just a few.

The next 5 years should be focused on making the car reliable and building a factory that can handle demand and scalability if they want to present it to other markets/countries. The employees need to be trained to monitor the machines that can pump out a much higher volume of cars but keep the reliability. Also, it would be smart to not try to be the best car maker in Africa as in competition but instead work with the other car makers to gain ideas on how to be better and get there cars to mainstream. Right now they're not recognized. Come together and build.

There aren't any pictures or video showing them stamping the unibody, injection molding of the plastics, painting the body etc.. We don't see the substantial capital equipment needed to manufacture such mass produced vehicles. It takes a lot of equipment to build such cars. Due to the above reasons, I suspect the vehicles are made in China and Kantanka just does some nominal assembly and adds some plastic body parts with their name. I wish they really did manufacture the vehicles but I see no evidence of it.

same thing I was thinking. But the government should support this and buy some of the cars to use for public services i.e. police cars, cruisers etc.

+Tosy Pitarz There is no chance in hell they will ever sell in USA, unless it's an farm vehicle. Chinese can't even pass US crash tests and if you can't pass, you can't sell. And Chinese have the money to make it if they wanted, but don't have the technology. Most Eastern European makers quit selling in USA due to strict emissions control in USA. Japanese and western Europeans always had state of the art cutting edge technology.

zaskwabs do not take out of context by comparing clothes to cars, it's totally different market. The CEO's of this market find out for me if the ceo of mercedes drives a bmw. You are trying to change the mindset of the people to believe and drive cars made in Ghana but you go around talking and driving foreign cars to what impact do you think you can make? you are kidding yourself
