    @@wheelchairgeek Neil & I know our own needs & what works for us 😊 Everyone is different & needs different things! Especially with an Alber-E-fix, a low back isn’t needed to aid self propelling as the person doesn’t self propel with an E-fix. Furthermore, the back is actually probably lower than the ones in your E-fix videos. Not that it matters anyway, everyone has different needs.

    I found this video very helpful. I am a young adult with EDS and I've currently been bedbound for 9 months since October 2019. I have just received a new wheelchair from the NHS as a rehabilitation aid. It's a self propelled wheelchair, the health professionals know I can't self propell but it's to maximize any independence I will gain through rehab. I was wondering since you have a manual wheelchair with a power pack if you had any tips on buying one and also if would even be compatible for my chair or not. I'm not quite at the stage where I'm going out so I have time now to plan what's going to happen when I am able to go out. I want to be able to get around as much as possible without help from another person so a power pack sounds amazing. This video has shown me the possibilities that are out there. I was supposed to get a powered chair but as I'm sure you are aware the NHS will find the slightest reason to give you the cheapest thing possible and for me they found a way to say no to a powered chair. Do you have any suggestions or tips of how I could buy a power pack to suit my NHS manual wheelchair? I would really appreciate it and thanks for your videos as it makes me feel much less alone and hopeful. I'm sorry this message is quite long.

    Chaya Kinn hi! You’ll need to contact a seller of the Alber E-fix to ask if it’s compatible with your wheelchair, I don’t know which wheelchair you have so there’s no way for me to know. However, in terms of independence, I think you’ll find it helpful to watch my ‘power assist comparison guide’ video which you can find on my channel or search for on KZread- it shows what sort of power assist options are available, as well as the pros and cons to all of them. This option does have limitations with independence, so I highly recommend you watch that video. For funding, there’s a charity called ‘Mind Body EDS’ who you can apply to for a grant of a few thousand pounds, and then you can do a GoFundMe go to fund the rest like I did if you need to (all power assists are just under £5,000, so there will be some excess that you’ll have to find yourself, which is why many use crowdfunding as well, which is typically a GoFundMe). Hope this helps!

    Hey Georgie, that’s quite the wheelchair, wow! So much stuff. It looks comfortable at least and from the sounds of it makes your life much easier and it’s not bulky and in the way like most chairs. It’s amazing how far technology has come for wheelchairs, here in the US almost every shop or building has access to get in and out and even sidewalks are built wider now. I had to use one once for a couple days, broke my ankle, I didn’t realize how much work it is to wheel around, my hands were so sore then I went to crutches for a few months. I assume the braces are for raynauds, though I never understood what they do. I assume the pressure of them helps with blood flow?

  • @GeorginasJourney

    @GeorginasJourney

    4 жыл бұрын

    Tate Thompson hope your ankle is fully healed now! No, they’re for dislocations (I explained it a bit in the video at around 5:40 :) ), my CMC thumb joints dislocate many times a day or are chronically dislocated, meaning they can stay out of the joint for weeks at a time, so the braces keep the joints in place and so help reduce my dislocations and pain :) I do also have raynauds, but I don’t do anything for it except wearing gloves in the winter :)

  • @tatethompson1234

    @tatethompson1234

    Georgina's Journey ah I thought you said “discomfort” not dislocate, sorry, Wow, that must be so painful and annoying if it’s chronic. I’m glad those braces help. They aren’t even super noticeable, I think it’s the color of them. I’ve had the occasional dislocate from sports years ago but I play guitar so I’m careful with my hands these days haha but I do remember the feeling. Does is ever bother you during classes with writing or even typing on phone/laptop? As for my ankle, I broke it on a ladder at work a few years ago, the safety lock failed and the ladder shifted and my ankle rolled. I was out three months, then I went back to work and it never healed, so after about three years of just living through the agonizing pain, now I’m actually getting it reconstructed I’m hoping in early January, just have to wait for the judge to fully order the company to pay for it. I need a ligament repaired, Achilles bursa repaired, arthritis shaved off bone, spurs removed, bones fused and the worse is replacing the cartilage in the joint which is 75% gone. So that will be loads of fun 😒 haha. Better to get it done now though while I’m still in my twenties than later on before more damage occurs. 4-6 months recovery. I’ll have to stock up on books haha. Your glasses look good on you, used to your videos without them.

    Tate Thompson yeah, I can’t write much and sometimes not at all, typing is a lot easier Ah that sounds so painful, sorry it’s all been going on for so long! Hopefully that helps it finally heal properly! Thanks :) I usually take them off as I don’t like how I look with them on 🙈

    Georgina's Journey typing is so much easier anyways. That must be annoying to deal with at times though. When I write things, I usually can’t read my own writing the next day hahaha. You pull off glasses very well, nice eyes and smile, they work for you and I think glasses are popular again, so many people using them versus contacts again, well here anyways. Are you around London? I have some friends around there, they have totally different accents than you, more city like accents. Then I have a buddy up in Durham, and I have a hard time understanding him 😂😂.

A couple of hours away in the car and only an hour away on the fast train :) Yeah, the northern accents can be tricky to understand at times haha, where are you from? Great review! We have these wheels for our daughter and we’re wondering if you ever take your chair out in wet weather? We were warned, and it states in the user manual, to “Ensure that no liquid or moisture reaches the wheel hub” . This has been inconvenient for us and I was wondering if I’m misunderstanding the instructions? Surely wheelchairs should be designed for transport even in wet weather? Also, we were also warned to never let the charge go to 0, else the wheels have to be sent to Germany for repair. Have you heard this as well? Thanks for any advice you can offer us 😁.

    Hi! I have gone out when it’s been lightly raining and not had any problems, but I haven’t been out with it in heavy rain, so I’m not certain about that. And I always try to avoid the battery reaching 0, so I haven’t had experience with that either- although I wasn’t warned about that when I bought them, so I assume it would be okay for them to reach 0- I would imagine that happens more commonly than you would think as it’s easy to stay out for longer than you planned and get caught out!
