roypeter is partially right The style shown in this movie is Goju Ryu, but only Gyryu is actually a Goju Ryu expert. Taikan is a Shotokan karateka. Anyway it's a wonderful movie. The first where everyone is shown WITHOUT special computer effect

That is Goju Ryu style founded by Sensei Chojun Miyagi. This is the tradition for the karateka masters.
