Well hw really only beat uvogin bc of his condition. Uvogin, imo, would have folded Yorknew Kurapika very badly if not for how strong Kurapikas chain jail was (due to the restriction). Basically, if Uvogin wasn’t a spider, he’d wreck Kurapika (in yorknew)

Morel sweating heavily after seeing Gon's hatsu/Gon invoking death conditions to reach his hunter zenith at an early age, those are the most basic Gon feats that show how prodigious he is.

I think many havent even realized you of course decide what you ‚boost’ with youre ‚Restriction’. That’s of course up to the User to decide. Charge-Time for example: you dont need to boost the Strength if you wanna do exactly ‚12 Meters to the Left Teleport!’, if you want Activation-Speed to go up instead.

Steal Chain surely seems like pure Conjuration, which is Impressive and surley means theres big Restrictions that we just dont know of yet - ironically plunging us into the State we just left, seeing how people wondered about Emperor Times Strength for years, only to now know more heavy Restrictions were always placed on it. Now, were in the same Situation with Steal Chain and Stealth Dolphin. The Dolphin, by the way, is yet the newest of many, many Specialist-Nen-Beasts we saw, so that's a Thing that totally exists, which most dont even realize exists...

Your explanation on how Kurapika obtained power is very insightful. Great power can only be obtained through immense sacrifice or immense training/talent. I like how the power system in HxH has no "free lunches".

Kurapikas story is really sad to me. I'm not sure why, but I guess it's difficult for me to imagine someone as lonely as he is. He has made friends in the past, but I feel like he is pushing out everybody in his life that cares about him. The one difference I see with Kurapika and Chrollo is while Kurapika is somewhat stuck in this constant state of rage, Chrollo has found sort of a peace with the people he cares about. Chrollo is living a life of crime, but he at least found people who were similar to him. Kurapika is broken to the point where I'm not sure if anyone else in the world can completely connect to him. Even someone like Leorio has his limits to how much he can understand where hes coming from. I feel really sad because the last thing i want is for him to die alone, but i know that's the path hes going down. I need to stop thinking about it.

Yeah Togashi better make a freaking character to connect with Kurapika. If he doesn't and if he dies I will first cry my eyes out for 4 years then I will plot my revenge then I will become the strongest person in the world then I will track him down and kill him and I will kill the illustrater for making his death scene. And then I will die like Kurapika because I did everything he did and because I want to be with him.

It's interesting to note that the longer he uses Emperor Time, the bigger the cost becomes. Since the less life force he has left, the more valuable each chunk of it becomes. Losing an hour of life isn't a big deal when you have 10 years left, but it becomes a big cost when you only have ten hours left. This may very well be something Kurapika planned for, since he knew he'd need more power the longer his vengeance quest lasted.

Kurapika became my favorite after a few rereads and watches of York new. His powers and position in the succession war is amazing seeing how he has to balance everything from protection of the prince and the phantom troupe coming while dying with his Nen powers eating away at his life. Hopefully leorio can come in to help as bill is an amazing partner but kurapika needs more trustworthy people to help.

Yes, but going by the logic of hunter hunter, that would probably break the Hatsu. Nen is highly subjective -- if the nen user knows the cost is BS and not a problem at all, the cost won't give the desired boost. What this would do, however, is allow Kurapika to live a long and happy life after his quest is over.

@@Yodah97 I mean it depends on the conditions set for each hunter in Kurapika's cases his hatsu is VERY strict when it comes to time constraints so It would make sense to use nitro rice but to say it would break all Hatsu in the series doesn't make sense because not every Hatsu is the same. The nitro rice would probably have a different effect based on the specific nen user.

I genuinely don't know if Kurapika is less naturally talented than Gon or Killua. He definitely doesn't have the natural physical abilities that Gon or Killua have, however I see no reason to believe his Nen capabilities aren't the same one in a million degree as the kids. The only reason we know Gon and Killua are so talented is the word of Wing, a character who never met Kurapika. However, based on what Kurapika shows in comparison to Gon and Kill, I think it's highly likely Kurapika is MORE naturally talented than either of them and if Wing were to meet Kurapika he would promptly shit his pants

"Highly likely". No it's the word of ONLY wing, but many characters, like Hisoka, Bisky, and the Zoldycks. Hisoka has seen all of them but he doesn't care for kurapika like he does for gon/killua. If hisoka saw kurapika having more talent then he would go for kurapika. Killua has already been hyped as his family for being the most talented zoldyck in history. And gon and killua are younger than kurapika.

Maybe killua and gon are more talented, but hisoka simply doesn't go after kurapika because he knows that he wants revenge, so fighting him would be useless since he uses his power exclusively for revenge. Kurapika has no intention either to fight hisoka because he's not a real spider. In the first episodes hisoka recognized also kurapika's and leorio's talents, even if he didn't care about them as much as gon and killua. Kurapika never met wing and bisky (only in the manga, but it was for work porpuses, she wasn't her master)

Kurapika's "Swiss Army Knife ability" has the potency of Kaido's THUNDER BAGUA !!!

One thing to point out from the manga of Kurapikas back story is that when their eyes go scarlet they become stronger, like there on something and fueled by that emotion

the brilliance of how Kurapika's ability is portrayed is that in more traditional shounen he would be the "bad guy", as that is typically the trope of the character than "cheats" and becomes powerful too quickly which serves against the protagonist who we normally see train for years to master something. But in the HXH world it is show as simply another path - if you are willing to make a great sacrifice you can have great power (e.g., Gon).

"When the heart achieves the right form emotions may be manifested " netero said this before he used zero hand against the king and this explains everything unexplained like Gon n Bisky transformations n cheetu conjuring the arrow with out image training or any kind of training when it comes to conjuring. it's likely a old forgotten form of nen that most people use unconsciously

Emotions are strong but that's why u have vow' s, limitations, and conditions to make your ability strong. Gon lost most of his fights in the series I'm sure he wanted to win some of them but he's feelings aren't enough until he made a limitation to literally give up everything to kill pitou . Emotions aren't enough in hunter hunter u need a vow behind it or limitation for the ability to get stronger

Fun-fact: New World Review said without the Scarlet Eyes, his path would be much different - but would it? His pure Conjuration Abilities would still be amazingly strong. Not to mention he has no Time-Limit: The Spiders dont have to be Killed now or never. Also NWR is just wrong about how useless Holy Chain would be as a Conjurer: 'Just enough for papercuts' is clearly not right.

Some members of Uzumaki Clan used chain for their Sealing jutsu

When he use the scarlet eyes he still is 100% conjurer, only his rise his level of mastery of specilisation from 0% to 80%. It's called innate category because you cannot choose or change it. It's not he become specialist but his ability allowed him to rise the level of mastery to 100%.

No, when he took the nen test again when his eyes turning scarlet, his aura definitely change and became specialist.

Yeah, like @nothing personal said -- he's been canonically confirmed to be a specialist with his eyes on. Conjurers becoming specialists is not unheard of -- people can change categories if their beliefs/personality changes enough. What makes Kurapika special is that his affinity bounces between specialist and conjurer depending on whether or not his eyes are red.

Bad Head Cannon, Literally Confirmed In Manga

So, too summarize: -In normal mode, he has strong Detection-Ability including a Lie-Detector, also usable for generic Attack and Defense. Also a Healing Ability and an Ability-Steal-Ability. Andvery strong chains-for-capture. -In Emperor Mode, all of this becomes STRONG and he also gets more Abilities also.

Kurapika's scarlet eyes changing his ability is a trait of the scarlet eyes. Uvo said the people of Kurta village were really strong even though I doubt they all trained in nen let alone to the degree that a master enforcer would consider them strong if not for the scarlet eyes giving them an edge. Moreover, even before Kurapika knew about nen the scarlet eyes has shown to significantly boost his abilities when in use.

Weird thought here, do you think Gong’s affinity could have changed after the trauma of almost dying after the fight with the ants?

It's possible. Your affinity can change if you go through a good enough change but it's super rare except I believe people could change although it is difficult but that's the reason why it's very rare for someone's nen affinity to change I'm guessing

I think why Kurapika is specialist is because he's independent and sole survivor of his clan. Remember the personality test of Hisoka in nen category? Specialist is independent so I think in my opinion is main reason why Kurapika is specialist cuz he's sole survivor and only one carry the revenge of his clan, he's the only one kurta clan

the chain that steal the nen and powers maybe was conjured while he activated the scarlet eyes ... so he just need to keep the conjuration, made with the specialization, alive.

I love it everytime someone explain that Kurapika doesn't get 100% in all nen cathegories when emperor time is active.

if meruem was a member of phantom troupe then kurapika and netero could have a chance of killing meruem without self destruct.

Actually that’s correct, chain jail is an overpowered ability tho it can only be used on the spiders, this limitation is what makes it so powerful, but Meruem on the other hand has nothing to do with Kurapika’s brethren massacre so I guess Meruem won’t be involved in Kurapika’s vengeance, therefore even if Meruem joins the spider I don’t think he’d be able to use the chain on him

we would never know that as we don't know how much physically stronger meruem is than uvo , can he break kurapikas chains purely from physical force ? we can't know for sure.

@@williammacbeth7282 kurapika can only use his chain jail on the spiders, not the people who killed his clan. He wouldnt care if they didnt help murder his clan, they’re helping the phantom troupe so they’re enemies too.

I highly doubt Kurapika would survive a second near Meruem even if he was a member of the troupe. First of all, he would have to somehow buy time to surround Meruem in the chain, actually ensnare him, which I believe there's NO way he could do without just getting slaughtered by Meruem, but let's imagine he does. Meruem would be forced into a state of Zetsu, but Meruem does *not* need Nen to destroy Kurapika's chains. The king of the Chimera ants is surely more than strong enough to snap those chains quite easily. Now I can't confirm this, but based on what we've seen from ants we *know* are weaker than Meruem, and what we've seen from Meruem himself I think it's safe to assume he would be able to break Kurapika's chains.

I understand that the Chimera Ant Arc is supposed to highlight characters other than Kurapika as the York New Arc is pretty much his and his alone. But it's really a shame that we don't get to see him in action against the ants. It doesn't even have to be against Mereum. I would settle with a battle between him and Shaiapouf. Like what is shared in this video, he can use all other abilities except Chain Jail against anyone who's not a Spider.

After all the tricks to get me to subscribe, I finally did, I'm loving this channel.

Thank you for clarifying that only Chain Jail is a Phantom Troupe-only ability I'm glad my boi is that OP! With great power comes great responsibility/sacrifice

CANT believe we never saw Alluka interact with Kurapika. Man, i really wanna see that, cause, ya know, i'm not a Conservative or Republican, so im kinda not having LGBT-Hate or Trans-Denial as a Core-Trait of my squishy little Being.

A theory I have regarding ability stealing: Specialization is required to steal and use abilities, however conjuration can be used to work with other people's Nen and Aura. To elaborate, both Shikaku and Kurapika seem to only take the aura from the user of the Hatsu - Kurapika by draining the person he injected the syringe into, and Shikaku by trapping the aura he's attacked by with a card. However, since Shikaku traps that aura in whatever shape he caught it in, he can then, perhaps use it in the same exact shape. So, if he could catch Halkenburg's arrow, then he'd only have sealed that specific arrow, and not Halkenburg's ability to shoot arrows altogether, and would then be able to release that arrow from his card unto someone, but only once if he only ever caught and sealed one. As for Kurapika, the fact that he has to drain the user of Nen seems to be a requirement to stealing the Hatsu, but not the act of stealing it in and of itself, just like Leol's 'favors' are a condition for him to be able to steal it. It would seem from Leol that physical contact isn't necessary to steal or borrow someone's Hatsu, and they don't have to come in contact with their Aura to be able to do it as long as the specific conditions they have set are met. So as Kurapika fulfills the condition of draining a Nen user of aura with Steal Chain and forcing them into Zetsu (as well as perhaps knowing their Hatsu, as he had to inquire from Bill as to the nature of that dude's Hatsu), he can then invoke Stealth Dolphin and gain access to that Hatsu proper.

I'm so glad you explained his power because I got tired of explaining it to people because they think his powers only work on the phantom troupe and he is weak when fighting anyone else. So I'm grateful that you are explaining how op kurapika is.

Hi, im a new subscriber. My friend, who first introduced me to the series, and I found some fun in comparing the 4 main characters from HXH to those of its creators other classic, Yu Yu Hakusho. In specific, Gon was most like Yuske, Kilua. most like Hiei, Liorio being a more intellectual Kuwabara, and Kurapica being a less emotionally stable Kurama.

We all know that in any anime, lifetime exchange never means anything.

I mean, we literally see it all the time: Chrollo conjures a book, Kurapika enhances his Nen-Skill itself, and Neon emits an ugly-as-fluff thing. I mean, i really dont understand some peoples misconception that they literally have to learn and incorporate those other Categorys into their Ability. AT LEAST Neon's existence should blow that Idea to pieces, yeah? She's a Nen-Genius; an uncounciouss User - you really wanna tell me she's using THREE Categorys? Haha, no. She's not.

A Kurapika that’s gone through biscuits Nen Training could probably take on the ant king, he has 7 abilities. All he has to do is steal chain killua to use Godspeed and with that speed steal chain the ant king to force him into zetsu and it’s over man.

ALL I CAN SAY IS KURAPIKA IS A GENIUS, AND MOST AFRAID OF HIS AND HISOKA'S DEATH.

Also one thing we have t seen from him is that Kurapika can use Emitter and Transmuter abilities as well. Just like he used enhancer abilities against Uvogin.

I finally have some understanding of Kurapika's abilities thank you!

Great video I was always confused on kurapika’s abilities especially the misconception that all of them are only usable towards phantom troupe members.

I would love to see the time when Kurapika meet Pariston and Gin. Could Gin capable of mimicking Kurapika's complex skill sets, would Pariston be successful to steer Kurapika's careful decision making?

It's stated that the abilities Ging can mimic are abilities that involve punching, and have to successfully hit him first. So no, it wouldn't work on Kurapika.

I think Ging would be capable of creating the chains, but not the exact same powers. Though he could definitely create the chains that only use Conjuration, such as Dowsing Chain or Steal Chain. But we also don't know Ging's Nen type yet. And Pariston could definitely manuever around Kurapika, he's much smarter.

The idea that Scarlet Eyes always have cost him Lifespan ever since he was a baby is Laughable. No. That's not it. Some think so, but no.

Gon has the genes of Ging and grew up as a little nature boy which honed his instincts. Crazy

Everything about kurapika's abilities it is insane, but, do you that know that none of his chains have the properties of Rubber and gum?

Definetely my favorite But can we take a moment to appreciate that Mister Morel's Deep Purple is made by transmuting his Aura into smoky figures, emitting them to set them free and then manupulate a massive amount of them with pretty good control And all of that with seemingly no restrictions even though Transmutation is exactly on the opposite of the Nen ring

There is a Restriction. Morel can only manipulate the smoke that comes out of his pipe. That's why he couldn't create any more Smoke Troopers once Pouf stole his pipe.

Togashi is easilyyyyy one of the best mangaka ever. Between yu yu hakusho and HxH. I really enjoyed watching HxH then going back to yu yu hakusho and noticing where he started and what he kept and left and his overall growth as a storyteller in general.

I just finish re-reading the new continent ark, and I think he put the restriction of Empeoror time draining 1h of his life for each second in that state after the Yorknew events, because he wanted to be able to use Emperor time for more extended periods of time (where before he would be drain after ~30minutes or even less, depending on how much aura was spent), all in order to be strong enough to deal with Phantom Troupe better. Also, after he loaded the ability the Dolphin appears instantly, so It's not possible to just drain one Aura without forcefully getting into Emperor time, and if the ability he steals has a lot of restrictions, like how some Nen users needs days to activate their abilities, this can be fatal for Kurapika.

What would happen if kurapika gets his hands on nitrorice? Would a constant diet of that mean he could have emperor time active 24/7? Maybe that would still lower his max age but just slower than without the nitrorice.

I think some of the core associated abilities of specialization are related to nen-ability manipulation and divination, and since Conjurors and Manipulators are closest to specialization they can most easily access these specialization abilities by incorporating these functions into their primary abilities.
