Kung Fu Staff - Advanced Staff Spinning Tutorial - Overs and Unders

This is the detailed version so if you already get the movment being explained, skip ahead to the next section. The overs and under spin is a very unique spinning technique that can be performed with a wide variety of long weapons. I will have video tutorials on how to adjust this spin for the Two Section Staff and Three Section Staff later in 2021, so check those playlists as well once you get his technique down with the staff. The key to making this spinning technique impressive and fast is to have consistent hand changes and spin counts. So start slow, then increase speed and power over time.

There are quite a few martial arts styles that are very good for learning staff. Each staff art brings it's main art fundamentals with it so you can see which style fits your goals best. Nearly every kung fu style teaches staff; traditional styles like Wing Chun, Hung Gar, Choy Li Fut, Eagle Claw, Mantis, Northern Shaolin just to name a few, plus Wushu and contemporary Shaolin have very fancy kung fu staff movements and techniques. If you want to focus on Japanese styles, kobudo would be the best place to start, although I do know that Aikido schools teach jo and bo staff so that can be an option as well. Indian styles like Silambam and Kalaripayattu also have staff training in their programs. Hope you find a good style that fits your goals!

@@SifuKuttel holy!!...you know about Silambam and Kalaripayattu?, Our martial arts tradition??.. that's awesome man. Very few from West have claimed to know them. Those are two most ancient martial arts in the world from south india. Kalaripayattu is also called the mother of all martial arts from which the infamous shaolin stemmed from when bodhi dharma aka(Tamo in chinese) spread that knowledge to ancient chinese.
