Kung Food⎮Miraculous Ladybug Season 1 Retrospective Review

It’s been a little while since I’e done a retrospective review, so here I am, once again, reacting to the much, much better quality of Miraculous way back in season 1. Definitely think I treated it too harshly in retrospect. I somehow cannot believe how enjoyable and good it was! I still love the show, but early seasons really just hit different. Anyway, another classic today with Kung Food, so sit back, relax and enjoy my rantings.

I think since the Source Tournament is gonna the main event, its gonna feel like Season 4 where all the Ninja will have to figure out a way to win the Tournament without losing each other, but I think Arin will turn against them and become sort of a villian for a bit to win the Tournament. In fact, the only racism in this episode is the moment when Chloe doesn't understand the language (Although let's face it, many people don't distinguish Japanese from Chinese, sometimes it gets so absurd that they can't tell Korean from them, which is even more strange because of the letters), while as I mentioned earlier, sushi originated in China and later appeared in Japan, so the sushi part is not entirely racist by context So yes, Thomas, you did your job wrong, use the Internet or something...

    As a European (Pole), I can explain why Chloe confuses both Asians so much, it is related to the fact that in Europe we don't talk much about this type of racism, and parents are not very educated either, so yes, it's strange that she is the only one who confuses, because adults should too, unfortunately, "Asian" is more used in context (Which can be confusing, because not every Asian speaks Chinese or Japanese), hello, we are talking about France, which persecutes Muslims and forces women to take off the hijab, what should we expect from this country?

  • @gryficowa

    @gryficowa

    Seriously, racism is viewed differently in Europe than in the US (Unfortunately, it can be frustrating for non-white Europeans), the creator is French who pretends to understand racism (Yes, good joke), so it's strange that only Chloe is attacked for racism when, as I mentioned, France persecutes Muslims

    Ale ty zapominas że Jankesi nie dość że są pomysłodawcami nowoczesnego rasizmu (gdy czarni niewolnicy przyjęli chrześcijaństwo trzeba było uzasadnić czemu chrześcijanie niewolą chrześcijan) to jeszcze są rasistami do teraz (bzdurny nakaz określania siebie po kolorze skóry, dotyczący też obcokrajowców na granicy). Zarzucasz starszym Polakom nierożróżnianie Azjatów z Dalekiego Wschodu. Jankesi do teraz nas, Ukraińców czy Czechów wrzucają do wora "Rosja", jakby wojna ukraińsko-rosyjska i Bucza nie istniały. Zgodzę co do różnic rasizmu w Europie a tego w Stanach. Europa to prawie 50 niepodległych państw z różnorodną historią. Tylko idiota albo Amerykanin postawiłby znak równości wobec rasizmu w Portugalii (nastawiony na osoby z dawnych afrykańskich kolonii czy na obecnych imigrantów z Afryki Północnej), w Szwecji (problemy z azylantami ale sprowokowane przez głupią politykę braku intergacji tego kraju), w Wielkiej Brytanii (większość czarnej populacji to potomkowie imigrancji z Indii Zachodnich z lat 60-tych czy nowych imigrantów z Afryki z lat 80-tych do teraz, mnóstwo imigrantów z Indii i Pakistanu oraz współcześnie z Polski, Hiszpanii czy Rumunii), w Polsce (niechęć do Żydów, których realnie jest mniej niż buddystów z Azji, również Romów, imigrantów z Indii, krajów arabskich czy z byłego Związku Radzieckiego od Ukraińców po Czeczenów i Tadżyków, doliczyć trzeba terroryzm imigrantami napędzany przez Białorusinów i Rosjan) czy we Włoszech (imigracja zarobkowa z Europy Środkowej ale też uchodźcy z Somalii czy imigrancji z Afryki Subsaharyjskiej czy Bliskiego Wschodu). Honestly the Shanghai special did the Mandarin better because there are so many small details that are just off: 1. Adrien's Mandarin is incomprehensible. Bryce doesn't speak it normally, so I'm a bit more willing to let this slide. 2. Cheng Shifu's Mandarin is also pretty bad. Like when he says "no" he simply says "bu" as in "no." The problem is that you don't really say, "no" by itself and you need to quantify it in some way similar to saying "No, I don't" or "No, I am not." 3. I can't help but notice Sifu (Cantonese) and Shifu (Mandarin) are tossed around interchangeably despite zero people speaking Cantonese. It's weirder when someone says Sifu and proceeds to speak Mandarin.

So YEAH, the argument can be made that maybe the tribute should've been paid to the Chinese original rather than the goofy Japanese knock-off, but we are of course navigating a medium where DB is by far the most well-known version anyway.

Bo my w Polsce też jesteśmy mocno wymieszani.
