This is so true. Getting into weight lifting changes so much more than just how your body looks. You realize food is fuel and you gain an appreciation for the subtle flavors of fresh healthy food. And for someone with anxiety, the gym literally becomes your favorite place in the world because it's the only place you can focus 100% of your attention on what you're doing in the moment.

  • @eshwarprasad9218

@@anitaspencer7526 Nope, not even then, tbh. As someone with anxiety, my mind can wander even when I am "autoerotically servicing myself". But gym hits different, as we progressively overload, if I am not in the moment, it really shows. Weight lifting is just one of the things that can take ur full focus, but its one of the most available, documented and healthy things to do.

@Anita Spencer I never saw this question. KZread never sends notifications for some reason. To answer your question, yes that activity does put you in the current moment, but only briefly, and not in a way that produces any lasting positive effects. It's more like the way a drug will allow you to forget your troubles and anxiety for a little while, but then causes you to feel even worse when it wears off. Working out, and also certain other activities like learning to play an instrument, put you in a focused state where the rest of the world fades into the background, and when you come out of that state, you feel refreshed.

That immigrant point is so interesting because it directly coincides with the increase in wealth that immigrant families get. Most of such foods rich in meat, carbs and fat is usually festive or food that only the upper classes could afford, and since they're now rich too, they can have that too. And as the kids grow up with that food, it becomes normal to them

Secon Conan was talking about '800-'900 emigration from Europe, when people in Italy, Ireland, Poland Greece (and a lot of other countries) were really starving and they can get on a boat often making debts, or by someone oversea paying for them (usually another member of the family). He doesn't looked juiced at all. Lazy people with bad genetics always assume a fit person is on steroids. He is no where close to Arnold Schwarzenegger during his Mr. Olympia days. Even without steroids Arnold had great genetics and was in unreal physical condition. People can be as fit if they consistently eat well, take a good vitamin regime, be blessed with above average family genetics, change up your workout to trick your muscles, sleep well, and process your daily stressors in a positive way. It's an all year commitment to yourself that becomes a lifestyle and not a "workout".
