Kuksa - Making a wooden cup

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Making a kuksa is usually a long process of hand carving wood. There are many great videos showing skilled people hand carving a kuksa but I had an hour, a bit of elm and a workshop.
This is a simple woodworking project and could be adapted to be made using whatever tools you have. Even if you are a beginner woodworker in a small workshop or garage, grab a piece of wood and use what you have to try making one!

Nothing wrong with making use of the tools you have. And nothing that says you must hand carve it. The final result has a nice hand carved look and it looks great! Well done, sir!

Great job, and the strobing lathe is brilliant! In my opinion, using power tools does not make it cheating - especially when it takes skill to use them. I would need a lot more hours of turning before I was confident enough to turn something with a handle... 😬

Looks like it should be part of a camping set.

Yeah, I might need to come up with some other pieces to match it!

Love it. I should really make one like this, kinda hate my replica pottery mugs I have can't hang on my belt. Nothing more useful than a cup and a spoon on your belt.

Can we get a pic of your work? And where can we find it?

Not cheating at all. And I hope you are going to use that filming technique in further videos.

Very nice, loved the strobing effect during turning not sure if that was incredibly well thought out or purely coincidental.

I could try to claim it but turns out variable speed lathe plus fixed frame rate can do some interesting things!!!
