Thank you sir that means alot!
I was wondering about the idle myself, and personally I think I would put some more time in engine mounts and go for a lower idle. The high idle would drive me nuts quicker than a little more vibration. Still a great build and I wish I could do something very similar. Thanks for sharing this with us!

that's a cool build; good post apocalypse vehicle too. They used to advertise those surplus jeeps all the time in the back of magazines when I was a kid in the 80s. That'd be a very fun summer vehicle for tooling around in too. great project idea.
This is the video I was looking for on these V2203 swaps, lots of videos of first starts and parts collections but not much of the nitty gritty. Super cool. Once I get some more space cleared I'm looking to pick one of these up for a project.
I've really enjoyed watching everything that you have done to your Willys jeep. Cannot wait to see additional videos of it in action!

As a former OTR driver pulling reefer, the sound of that engine lulled me to sleep many a time. Unless I was pulling a frozen load and then the engine would cycle off/on at higher rpms. People hated us reefer drivers at the rest areas and truck stops.

Wow, these two Jeeps are awesome , love how they sound !
I love this setup! As far as the speed goes, it really wasn't much faster with the OEM gas engine, so no real loss there.....
Great video with good information! Thanks for including the real audio instead of loud music like everyone else on KZread.
Nice setup. Definitely go for that T98 swap, you won’t regret it with that 6.40:1 first gear. Total game changer!

As someone who owned a 6.68:1 1st gear, I can confirm this.
Diesels are supposed to vibrate, and big semis do to its just how they are bro and its bad ass cool leave it at the low idle you will come to get used to it!!! and thanks for showing us the jeep again and showing us how it drives which I kind of had an idea because they can go everywhere but once again thanks for listening!!!
Always thought the YJ with a VW tdi swap was cool. But this is freaking sweet. Would be a perfect farm toy too
I have a 64 CJ3B that I haven't gotten into yet. If the motor is gone, I'm definitely doing a diesel swap similar to this. I have a small ranch in the San Diego mountains, and some OHV trails out my back door. This vid really inspires some great ideas, thanks.
Have you thought about using a thermostat that lets you run the engine between 180 and 195 degrees Fahrenheit?it would probably increase your mpg as this is the optimal temp for a diesel to run.
Awesome!! Great job!
Great video and awesome jeep, the only thing I gotta say is please if your gonna off road, build yourself some kind of simple cage or even head loops like the old corvettes had. You and your buddy going up those hills could have easily been a bad day if you rolled or flipped. Also get yourself a 5 point harness...c'mon man...otherwise sweet video and build.

I too have the Kubota swap. I took my radiator in and had them swap out the bottom exit tube and made it come out straight so now it takes a 90's hose into the motor.
I'm no youtube expert (and i hate them too). That being said, you do need to have your engine running at least 140 degrees for a prolonged period in order to burn off the moisture in the oil. Oil gets contaminated with combustion byproducts and turns into a mild acid. This will eat at internal components like valve springs, etc.
I would choose the lower rpm, it sounds much cooler! Nice conversion! 👍👍🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🤘🏻🤘🏻
Very cool 😎 thanks for the video 😎 👍 🇨🇦

You should put in a thermostat to get your temps up to ~190. This will boil off the water in your oil and greatly prolong the life of your engine

Awesome machine.
So cool. I paid over 5K US for my Toyota 1KZTE half-cut with 28K Kilometers on it so that's a crazy good deal for a diesel. I own 2 Kubota tractors (a BX and an L series, both 4wd), their engines are VERY reliable. They're basically the Toyota of the tractor world.

Cool build
The vibration is going to eat up the poor thing. Your electric fan is fine, but in my “professional “ opinion you need to get the engine temp up to at least 190 degrees.
Your other option with idle speed would be to turn the fuel delivery down JUST a smidge. I bet you'd be able to find that 900 rpm sweet spot...
VERY COOL !! I want one !! Brent Glendale Az.
First things first. Order a Dayco belt. Period. Anything else is a junk rubber band. I would try to get it in the design that is NOT a top cog, for this application. Once you determine the length, order two more. One to keep in the Jeep and another for stock in your shop. Remember, two is one, one is none. This applies in most cases in life.
Nice jeep, good video. Diesel burns les hot more torq 👍. Greetings from the netherlands holland.
So back in the early 90s I bought a CJ2a from a bar owner in Sebastion Fl, he used the thing late at night driving up n down the beach. I paid 400 for it stripped it down and put a Ford pinto motor in it out of an aircraft tug best CJ2A I ever had it ultimately completely sucummbed to the beach runs but I hammered it for years it was a very good rig if you paid attention to all the little things.

There's old reefer unit they do like to stay at a nice constant idle kind of a high idle too because that's made to run a refrigerator unit I remember when I pulled them if there was any dirty fuel or or a dirty air filter that would cause it to idle differently you could instantly tell
Great job and a perfect set up. My Isuzu 3.9l has the same idle issue. Lower it and it will shake the truck to pieces, put it up a bit and it smooths right out.

@BuyFixFlip its 4 cylinder thing. They are all shaky at low RPMs. You could probably fab up a puck type mount with some urethane or rubber body mount pucks and something a little squishier like neoprene. You need 2 different durometer materials to damp the vibrations

Thanks brother! Also I'm not sure about building alot of them. It's hard to find clean jeeps these days. I am planning on diesel swapping my 6x6 though!
4:04 My company has a couple of those engines over 50k hours in carrier reefer units. That's 50k engine hours, not unit hours. The units have well over 60k. They get an oil change once a year, probably every 3-4k hours. I'm waiting for one of the units to break badly enough where I can buy the engine for a swap.
I just found a J-53 diesel. Probably not as good as what you've got here, but still pretty damn cool.
set it at 900rpm that is about where its suppose to idle yes it is very sensitive a hint slightly tighten jam nut and move the idle screw just a hair at a time then lock it down completely when get it at 900-950 rpm.
I must own this jeep. It would compliment my tractor perfectly. This is the only jeep I would consider giving up my lj for.

Lower idle is way better. The 1200 rpm isn't an idle and it's noisy
I don't know what kind of motor mounts you used. But if they're solid mounts. You might consider good heavy rubberized motor mounts. That way under the lower idle speeds you might not have as much vibration. Just a thought
