Kubota BX Mid Mount Belly Mower Torture Test - Will it mow 3 Foot Tall Fields? - Tuesday Tractor Tip

We wanted to now how heavy of grass you can reasonably cut with the Kubota BX Mid Mount Mower so we headed up on the hill to mow around the pond and to mow one small field that we would normally cut with the Rotary Cutter.

Those tractors are absolute tanks for their size. I haven't heard anyone complain about power or functionality of those tractors. Great video!

The BX is a good mower! I’ve cut some thick tall stuff myself and it’s impressed me. I usually take a bungee and tie up my flap so it discharges the grass better. Beautiful place around the pond! Enjoyed hearing about your son’s work ethic! Take care!

Looks like it did a fine job. You point out what I think too many people don't understand, which is that often speed and not lack of power is what makes for an inadequate cut....particularly when cutting with a "fast" ZTR! Nice job Lucas. 👍😎👍

Good work, Lucas and the BX did a good job. Yep, slow down and let it cut - that's the secret for any mower really. I run mine of 4 inches because of all the rocks around here. I need to keep picking them up but there are thousands laying around. Thanks for sharing, buddy!

I mow my fields with the same MMM and what I find helps is to drill a hole out at the end of the chute, put a cord in it, and pull it up when you get in the thicker stuff. It allows the mower to throw the grass out farther and clogs less. I like it so well I did the same to my zero turn I use for my lawn.

Looks good brother, I cut with a 60inch xmark which in tall grass like you were cutting does surprisingly well but naturally requires a second run to groom it nice, that diesel cuts like a monster with no loss of rpm in the tall stuff, love your pond, God bless!

Speaking from experience, if you put a BX mid mount mower in high dry field grass for any amount of time you will stop up the radiator and run it hot.

Looks like that mower handled that really well. My pasture wasn't nearly as tall, maybe 6-8 inches when I mowed it the other day after getting my mower deck. Tractor did great, I just need to find more yards to mow now that I have this mower LOL. One thing I notice though, the deck lift seems to have quite a delay in raising and lowering compared to the 3 point...the 3 point starts dropping a lot sooner than the deck starts to drop...not sure if that's normal or not. The other thing I notice is the mower doesn't seem to throw the grass clippings very far so I don't think it would take much to plug up the discharge chute of the deck...I figured it would have a much better throwing distance. It has the regular blades on it, which seem to be a medium to high lift blade which should be able to have enough velocity to really kick the clippings out away from the mower, but its just not the case. When I mowed my pasture as a test I didn't take the loader off, but if I use the mower again I may try without the loader and see if there's any handling difference...for an open pasture the loader isn't an issue, but if I tried mowing my yard the whole tractor would be an issue due to the trees and shrubs LOL. I've thought about giving the Kubota a try in the yard but there's so many places I wouldn't be able to get into that it would be more of a waste of time than anything. My back yard wouldn't be nearly as bad so I may try mowing it with the Kubota at some point.

Both of your observations are true to my machine as well. Slow reaction on the deck lift and it doesn’t throw clippings very far. I am used to it by now, but it is noticeable. I mow my regular yard with mine, but I don’t have trees or mach to mow around so that makes a big difference. Thanks for watching!

@@PeeksPeakHobbyHomestead Thanks for the reply....kind of figured it was a normal part of the operation. The deck lift and lower delay isn't too bad as I just leave the deck down while I'm mowing anyways...but its just weird for as large of a mower this is and the tractor running it, I figured it would throw the grass out much better.

I have a riding mower and when cutting grass it turns the mower deck off if you try backing up. I was curious if the Kubota is similar to a riding mower where backing up you need to turn off the deck first or will it run ok if you just back up? Kind of a dumb question I know but just curious so when my mower arrives I don't blow something up by accident.

That’s actually a great question I hadn’t thought of covering. I always hated that feature. The Kubota does not do that. It has a safety switch on the seat so you have to be on the mower, but that makes sense.

If mostly mowing is what you’re going to be doing I’m sure a Zero turn would be more efficient going around that many trees. However, because of all of the other uses, if I had to choose one machine it would be this one. I’ve got several videos on mower removal and installation and it really isn’t bad. A few minutes.

If not, it will bog down on you every time.😂😂😂 to hood on my Kabota that if you don’t use four-wheel-drive and put it in the turtle, you won’t make it through there anytime you’re cutting tall grass you want to use four-wheel-drive and turtle or a ball right now😂😂😂

Why on earth would you even think about mowing 3-foot-tall grass or even want too? Simply moronic! The strain you place on the belts/blades/spindles etc. is a recipe for disaster with these little toy tractors.
