I just test-rode one of these for the first time (2009 model) and HO LY CHEEZE BALLS! That SOHC engine is a TORQUE MONSTER! LOOOOVE IT! My favorite dirt bike engine ever! They went to DOHC after 2011 I believe, which softened the torque quite a bit, but now I'm hunting for one of these older beauties!

I really like seeing these older bike rebuilds,I have the 06 KTM 450xc G racing model and it's holding up well,I will def rebuild it when the time comes. Great video.

Wonderful video. Love when you take an old bike and fix it. I drive old bikes and this inspires me a lot of what to do. Keep up the good work!

Rocky Mountain ATV MC Seeing how well this project turned out I'm starting to consider buying an old bike like a CR500 and fixing it up. I normally ride new bikes, my current bikes are all 2013 or newer and seeing this has really made me second guess how I spend my money.

My main bike is a 2014 300xcw. I just picked up an '04 450 to revive and so far its been an awesome project.

Recently bought one of these bikes '04 450exc and this video has been a huge inspiration. Currently stripping the bike for powder-coating right now. Hoping to have it back and on the trails/road by April.

Nothing wrong with old, I upgraded my bike which is a 04 450 EXC R also. The motor is bullet proof for TBO, nice video and the article in Dirt Bike was rocking also.

I just bought an 2005 525 EXC and am looking to do a rebuild next winter. The EXC are great bike because powerful but still very reliable. I think that’s why they sell so fast.

Great bike rebuild. I have an 05 450 EXC that I would love to do that too however it would be less expensive to buy a brand new 2021 Bike 😂

Re purposing my 04 450 exc now as a dual sport - racing fz350 now. What wiring harness did you use for brake lights ? And high beams. Showed a lot of krap but nothing that is ds. I am sure your knobs were dot approved either. So what lighting kit/switches mount well

How did you modify the IMS fuel tank to get the trailer tech fan on the radiator? I have the same bike and there is no room between the ims tank and the radiator to use a ktm fan and I imagine the trail tech one isn’t much different. I currently use I beast of a cpu fan and it works pretty good.

Nice video!! My 04' MXC has blown fork seals, my rear suspension may be shot, my plate & tail light keep hitting the tire and ripping plate n light off, cant go into neutral at a stop unless I kill the engine or get lucky while I'm still rolling, bleed brakes every2nd or 3rd ride, fuel drains(pours) out of float if the bike isn't running... the suspension always seemed stiff even before the seals blew out...

What would the Build Cost be for a (regular) person ? One is for sale locally that’s been neglected.

Great video as always. Really dumb question here, but im thinking of buying an 03 exc 450 and my question is are all exc models street legal with appropriate lights horn mirrors etc. That's my goal. Just wanna make sure before I buy it. Thanks again guys, great video keep em coming

In 2007 was the first year that the EXC was 50-state street legal in the US. But the '03 you're looking at could have had a street legal kit added or depending on where you live, your state may have more or less strict requirements to making the bike street legal so depending on your local laws making it street legal may not take very much work.

Depends on the year you have? I'm showing for the KTM 525 EXC 2003-2007 are the same tank as the 450EXC. ~ Vinny

It's the Polisport full plastic kit with an updated front number plate and fender.

What was the process to get it licensed? Im thinking of buying an '04 near me(SoCal), but need to have it street legal. Thanks

The CS cutoff to convert a dirtbike to plated was Feb 2003 and you had to have the right vin number to qualify.

Is there a parts list for this build? I have a 2007 that I am restoring 👍🏼

@@rmatvmc I cannot seem to find what exhaust you used on this build. I realize it is a PowerCore 4 but I cannot seem to find one that suits a 2007 KTM 450 exc.

Will 04 or 05 exc plastic kits fit on a 05 450 mxc?

The EXC plastic kit doesn't list your bike as one of the machines that uses the same part number. I'm not sure how different they are but it would at least require some modification. You may be able to check some forums and see if you can find exactly what you'd have to do to make it work.

It looks like these are not aftermarket covers but actually just the stock ones that are powder-coated. Hope that helps!

Unfortunately, we don't sell this seat anymore but you can still get the seat foam and cover from Motoseat.com .
