What would you consider "mandatory" upgrades for a 250 pound rider with gear, riding mostly street but often off of pavement (nothing crazy though lol)? I'm gonna start say start with Risers and/or a new Bar, Wider/lower Foot Pegs (anyone found an economical yet good set?), but what about Suspension? Way too soft at that weight? Anyone have an Economical yet worthy front and rear suspension recommendation? Anything else to consider while deciding to purchase a 2022 or not?

My brain would choose the Honda for its rock solid reliability and good finish quality. My only issue with it is that standard it weighs about 60lbs more all while having the same power. The one that looks great and would bring me peace of mind, but the KTM seems more fun. I’ve only owned at 390A and not a CB500X, so my opinion maybe flawed.

As id mentioned before, I was tempted to get one but after the test ride, I have reservations about it being able to do the enduro trails we get here in Queensland. 2:35 - I'm not buying any used bikes from Steve. I'm glad Steve's rib has healed. Busted ribs are usually a pain for six weeks. I fell off my G310GS mid April and my rib still hurts when I lie down or get out of bed, and more problematic, my left thumb hurts and has only half its previous range of motion. In my early 60s, I don't think that's going to get much better. :-( An inexpensive Amazon knock off air mesh seat pad greatly improved the comfort of my G310GS seat. I'm hoping the tall seat from Seat Concepts will fix some of my problems with the deep seat cutout on the G310GS, as well as improve the fit of the bike for my 6'2" frame. I'm currently a bit cramped. Coming from dual sport bikes, I long for a plank seat that allows me to move back and forth for better control and long range comfort, although I can do 400 mile back road days with reasonable comfort, although I stand a bit to stretch while riding and I take a nice break for lunch. In the comparison with the BMW G310GS, you forgot to mention that the 390 Adventure is orange. That convinced me to buy the Cosmic Black baby GS instead. Actually, my local KTM dealer only carries their off road dirt bikes, probably because of some weasel marketing arrangement with Suzuki or Yamaha which they also sell, so that put me off the 390. I was also a bit concerned with KTM reliability. After two years, I haven't needed the 3 year BMW factory warranty and I do all of my own maintenance. I love small thumper ADV bikes. I wish the manufacturers would offer up-spec models for 20% more money that had 5 gallon fuel tanks, proper aluminum bash plates, engine crash bars, good ground clearance, upgraded suspension, tubeless spoke wheels, etc. Motorcycle manufacturers seem to believe REAL adventure bikes start at 700cc, and the small ADV bikes are low cost beginner bikes or bikes for the Asian market. They don't realize that some of us have always preferred lighter bikes off road and some of us are getting older and now need lighter bikes off road... and the geezers have a pile of disposable income and would like something a bit upscale. Thanks for these very enjoyable videos.

@@Motoeuro - I had a 1997 DR350 that I used as an urban assault vehicle. I'd ride it down a flight of outside concrete steps. I'd speed up for speed bumps. 55 MPH speed bumps in the parking lot at work were so fun. Duh-dut. Could barely feel them. The last time my wife rode with me was 1998 when I rode 50 yards down a 45 degree grass hill to take a short cut to the movie theater after she warned me not to ride on the sidewalk (which I did to get to the hill). :-)

Good fun fellas, thats what its all about. And yeah lose that stupid splash guard before your go through a deep puddle at speed, it will act like an anchor and and rip the wheel back on the spindle. awesome bikes once youve got the adv mods and even with the low ground clearance if you pick your lines carefully you can ride some pretty knarly trails without issues. I find rider skill reaches its limit long before the bike does...😀 greetings from NZ

Unfortunately, regarding Ground clearance, it is all about priorities in life. A decent seat height for the common mortals with a good rider triangle and the seating position is the price for that, But a least a beefy aluminum skid plate will do the trick to safeguard the engine sump and other parts of the engine, after all with that weight it not that you are going to ride it like a full enduro machine. If you want good ground clearance but with a nice narrow low seat there are motorcycle like Beta alp 200 but then the distance from the footpegs to the seat is very low so you end up riding with the knees a bit higher which result in a cramped like riding position.
