    I bought an Africa Twin when they first came out and got my motorcycle license, rode it across Canada coast to coast, lots of fun. Bought a ktm dirtbike to "get better at riding offroad". 7 years later and now I'm an A level off road racer and only hit the tarmac on the Honda like once every year or so lol. Enjoy!

    Nice video. Am uk. And had many bikes before. But not for say 20 years. Then a VFR800 had that for 4 years. Loved it but then wanted something newer and lighter so I came across the KTM 399 Adventure 2021 model. And love it makes me smile. 😊

    Mike I'm very excited about these adv moto camping stuff. I'm totally looking forward to them. Very strange that I'm going through the same transition as you. Used to ride all the time. Just getting back into it. Bought myself a dual sport xt250. Setting it up for camping. I absolutely love the ktm 390 adventure. That is the bike I wanted. I only got the xt250 for insurance reasons, and I had the cash to buy it without financing it. Been watching your channel for a couple years now. Love your dogs too. Content changes can be a hard call. Buy you will probably gain more subs than you lose. That's what I noticed on my channel. But all that said, I'm excited to watch your adv camping. Keep on keeping on buddy. Cheers 🍻

    Thats awesome Rob!! Nice bike also - Looks very capable. I sub'd so I can watch out for your XT250 content! I stopped worrying about content type a while ago and just film what I'm currently doing. My channel is very broad but so are my interests. The common thread is outdoors and dogs 😊

    @TheEmporiumOutdoors thanks for the sub. I haven't filmed any bike stuff yet. I should have. I was going to keep it off the channel. But I'm downsizing my gear to camp with the bike. And I'm going to use the same attitude about my content. Every time I ride I wished I took a Camara. Lol

    SO similar story! My name's Mike, too! Beginning with cabin fever, last October, I watched countless Y.T. videos and read a half dozen of the best motorcycle books I could find. Since everyone said learn on a lightweight bike, I got a Grom in February and practiced every day >40* F. `took & passed my riding test in May (at 72) and got a 390 Adventure at the end of May. I'm just south of you on the Wyoming/Montana border. ` love Alberta, B.C. and Yukon scenery, but ` have been apprehensive about going up, since the marked swing Left in recent years! Just this morning I was scouting hard-packed dirt roads withOUT the common gravel top-layer - for practice, too. 😄

    Thats awesome!!! I'm a big fan of Montana and will be heading there once I get a few more miles under me 😄 The Grom is an excellent training bike I've heard! I was also out @ 06:00 this morning running some loose gravel roads to gain confidence. The 2 hour session went well and I was feeling much more confident about that type of terrain afterwards! The 390 ADV ABS and traction control is VERY nice! Glad I bought this bike and not something else. Good luck with the riding and let me know how you make out! 👍

    @@TheEmporiumOutdoors I've noticed that on gravel-covered hard packed dirt, as I go quicker (say more than 10-15 mph), steering gets more stable ... as the wheels centripetal forces want to keep the bike UP and going forward. I've also noticed that the stock "standard" suspension settings feel harsh on pavement and unnerving off-pavement; the 'comfort' settings inspire more confidence for me, allowing the bike to glide over, rather than bang into each bump. I'm 6'2", 225 pounds in the 'space suit'. The rear shock rebound seems more sensitive to road irregularities than the front; I've found that -14 clicks allow less rear wallowing (squirrelly) on pavement, especially at highway speeds (say 50 - 60 mph) ... and -15 or -16 clicks, going slower than say 30 mph or off-pavement, inspires confidence. Keep experimenting and testing - to arrive at settings that work best for YOU. When you get it 'right', the bike rides wonderfully ... and rewards you for spending the extra money for that adjustable suspension, compared to the alternatives. And, keep a screwdriver on-board - to adjust that rear rebound when changing from highway to off-pavement.

  • @TheEmporiumOutdoors

    @TheEmporiumOutdoors

    Thanks for the info!!! I'll have to play around with the settings more! On gravel I'm up to 20-25 mph and the bike feels stable. Standing really helps and using weight on the foot pegs to control the bike. I'm trying to get out a couple of times during the week just to practice on the dirt 😄

    @@TheEmporiumOutdoors I found that the BIGGEST difference in ride quality (reducing the ABRUPTNESS over bumps and road irregularities) was backing the preload off to the 1st (zero) position; large channel-lock pliers made that easy. After that change, the rear rebound settings became more subtle. I tried -17 clicks, last night; I wouldn't want to go with less rebound than that - getting a bit squirrely. I'm thinking -15 or -16 clicks for less than 30 mph; maybe -14 clicks for 50 - 60 mph stability. I can't stand without being too hunched over (35" inseam). I'm waiting on some 30 mm (1.2") bar risers ... and hoping that too much cable rerouting isn't necessary. My dealer said that I needed 2" risers, but I couldn't find any. If necessary, I may have to get a block of aluminum and make some ... on the mill.

    @@discoveror9576 Good to know!! I can see how the bar risers would be helpful with a 35" inseam! 😄 There is a tool under the seat for adjusting the pre-load spring - I call it a "C' Spanner. 👍 I need to experiment more with the suspension 🤔
