KT Tape: Neck and Shoulder

Спорт

NEW updated video instructions are available here - • KT Tape - Neck & Shoul...
Neck and Shoulder Pain
The neck is clearly a vital component of our anatomy due to its responsibility for connecting our brain to the rest of the body. Everything that passes through the neck is vital and relies heavily on proper function of the musculoskeletal system to protect and support these structures.
Stress is stored in these muscles and can cause headaches, shoulder pain, and other damaging compensations. Sitting at a computer all day, looking down while running, whiplash, sleeping poorly, or sudden movements and changes in direction are also common causes of neck pain.
Factors include muscle strain, ligament sprains, arthritis, spinal subluxations, pinched nerves, knots or adhesions, and countless other musculoskeletal complications. The pain is usually not only felt in the neck itself, but also into the base of the neck and the shoulders. Generally the pain can be categorized into two conditions: muscle strain or myofascial strain.
Muscle strain can occur when there is an injury to the muscles of the neck, causing spasm of the cervical and upper back muscles. The strain may result from the physical stresses of everyday life, including poor posture, muscle tension from psychological stress, or poor sleeping habits. Typically symptoms include pain, stiffness, and tightness in the upper back or shoulder. Myofascial pain causes tight and tender areas of muscle that are sensitive to pressure. Myofascial pain in the neck can develop after trauma or with other medical conditions such as psychological stress, depression, or insomnia.
KT Tape alleviates pain by relaxing the muscles, providing support, increasing circulation around the affected area, as well as reducing pressure on the myofascial tender spots -- all to promote the body's natural healing processes. Generally individuals will feel immediate support and pain relief upon taping.
Consider complimentary measures as well. Try posture improvement, massage, chiropractic adjustments, and ice. KT Tape will relieve the pain and help assist in proper posture, but please seek care if pain becomes severe, there is a loss in movement, or symptoms get worse. Use beige KT Tape if you don't want to have colors visible during more formal times.

Thanks for your video. I've been studying many of the videos on your channel. I have had neck & shoulder pain for a while & have seen doctors about this. But it's nice to have extra aids such as KT Tape. I'm wearing the KT Tape right now on my neck & shoulders & it's helping alleviate some of the pain in those areas temporarily. Thanks for uploading all your videos. I find them to be helpful & interesting.

And my work was in timber, climbing trees and cutting them down to the ground. Lifting a lot of cut timber for the mines and so on. I’m 5’ 3” and weigh in around anywhere from 92 lbs to 115lbs. I was always muscular and very strong. Up until the past month. So I’m just asking about the taping actually searching for anything other than surgery again. I forgot to put this first in the other comment

I had surgery on the c 5&6 from an old neck injury. And I’m 65 now and I had surgery in 04 on my rotary cuff but it wasn’t torn, it was a pinched nerve, but the surgeon scraped the arthritis out. I was in 40’s then. 2018 for the c spine surgery. Now I have from the scans a separateration at the end of the AC joint. I have had migraines from the beginning of the neck injury which was in 1983. We live where I’d have to travel a 10 hour drive to any type of decent Dr. I want to know if taping my c spine and the AC joint would help , I don’t want to have surgery again especially since I don’t know of course due to my age. I am female who raised 2 kids and grandkids plus heavy strenuous work. Until I couldn’t take the migraines from my neck and that surgery didn’t help at all as far as the pain in my neck, I can tell from the c5&6 , above that area it’s getting worse. Not counting my ac joint now. I was always very athletic but can’t even take a shower and use my right arm, surgery side of the joint, without ending up with swelling, and then the pain and swelling going across from that side , my spine and swelling up now on the left side a little bit. And I have been to orthopedic doctors time and again, physical therapy etc. I have been going to pain management now for over 10 years and that was working up until this past year and they were not sure if it was my neck or my shoulder. So it’s a separation of the ac joint from the shoulder blade bone from the scans as of January of this year, 2023. I would rather try the taping of my c spine and ac joint to see if if it could help prior to anything like surgery or a gallon ziplock bag of medication I have been given over time that’s not helping anymore. My kid’s, niece’s and nephews are all military including a grandson. 2 of which are Green Berets and medics with 20 years of service. And they have ran a lot of the Warrior races and various others during all this time. They use the taping methods for everything plus my niece has had the surgery on both her shoulders, my son fell in a auger pit and about killed himself from hitting the concrete wall with his face on the way down. Popped his head back and injured his neck and broke every bone in his face. This was in 04, and after he healed up, started with his running again and exercise for his neck and shoulder pain, but he was using the taping from way back then. I was sent this link to your KZread page to see the taping and where and how it is applied and what specific areas of the body. I can’t even help my husband mow the lawn and we have 10 acres of land and about half we mow , on rough reclaimed strip pit land . So it’s pretty rough as we are surrounded by timber and scrub brush, and he’d broken his back in 04, and been knocked out quite a few times at work, various other injuries until the last time, it’ll be 6 years this year in July, he got his leg crushed by a 800 lb cylinder and can’t work, he has a rod, pins, plates and screws in the leg from his knee to the bottom of the foot as it was a compound break at the ankle and the bones crushed above that. Underground mining was his job. So we’ve been to every Dr imaginable with his issues and mine. I’m just wondering if this would be possible to try so I can go back to helping him, but help me mainly with the migraines and the right shoulder. Any thoughts about this situation?

I would call the physical therapy centers and ask if they can help you place the KT tape. Or maybe get your medic relatives to help. It is worth trying, but you need someone to help you apply the tape.

We found showing one color can be hard to see as the strips kind of blend when filming the instructions. You can use one color, two colors, or switch it up even more if you'd prefer as the colors are just for fun. Durability and strength are the same.

My question is who is telling the truth? In one the tape ends up with wrinkles while in the other is totally firm.

  • @KTTapevideos

Hi Shané, we simply use different colors to help visually distinguish where each strip of tape is placed in the video. The color of the tape doesn't have any difference on the efficacy. You can get different tape materials that will have different stretch strengths (PRO Synthetic for stronger recoil, Cotton for regular strength) and for adhesive strength (PRO Extreme for extremely high adhesive strength, Cotton Gentle for more less adhesive strength and easier removal). Does that help?

No one has beige or white skin. You buy the color closest to your natural skin color. They make a wide variety in color. It's not that big of a deal. You can also buy bright colors, if none match your skin tone. Don't make this out to be something it's not.

Also many spots like gymnastics and cheerleading used to have strict codes regarding colors of tape or braces. Maybe leagues allow neutral colors. Beige may not be a perfect match to my light skin or someone's dark skin but it's within the realm of natural skin tone.
