KT Tape: Hip Flexor

NEW updated instructional video available here: • KT Tape - Hip Flexor
Hip flexor pain is a relatively uncommon injury to the front of the hip that is more predominant in younger adults and females. However uncommon it may be, when one suffers from a hip flexor injury or strain, it can be very painful. The hip flexor muscles consist of the psoas major and minor and the iliacus muscles. They are often referred to as a group by the term "iliopsoas muscles". These muscles serve to flex the thigh and pull the knee upward.
Lack of flexibility in the hip, core weakness, and acute trauma are all common causes of hip flexor injury. Injury is typically caused by an acute (specific) injury during an explosive or forceful movement such as kicking, changing direction quickly, or breaking into a sprint.
The pain typically presents on the front of the hip and can radiate down the thigh and will become worse when attempting to move the leg forward or upward.
KT Tape can help relax and support the muscles that make up the hip flexor group so that the healing process can begin. Using KT Tape will help to increase circulation as well as send positive signals to the muscles affected. Additional treatment entails resting, icing, light stretching, and eventually balance and strength training.

    I did gymnastics for many years and my hip flexors no longer function correctly, and haven't for about 5 years now. KT tape is awesome because it let's me keep being active.

    I just had surgery to relieve a tight hip flexor...I also have hip dysplasia and a torn labrum. KT tape helps so much with the instability while exercising! Thank you for the demonstrations, because I'd be lost without them.

    Had a bad bout of sciatica and femoral nerve pain this week. (Have had four or five times in past.) Followed this video and the one for using the tape on glute. I was finally able to sleep through the night yesterday. I think two or three more nights of doing it before bed and I should be healed up. This will be the fastest I have ever gotten over a bout of this crap. I've been militant about the stretching, hydration and walking and a steady pace too. Great videos!

    This technique is very different than the earlier version that linked me to this as the current method of treating a hip flexor strain. I was wondering if there was a reason for moving away from the intersecting y-strip technique or if both are equally effective.

    Injuries, in general. If your muscles are sore, you've made small micro tears in those muscles and your body heals those tears building the muscle. So I don't see why kttape would help at all really

    I just did this application today, my first time using KT tape. Today is also the first day of my period, and although I havent had any cramps at all, I suddenly was a bit crampy the side I applied tape. I wonder of other women experience this? When I googled this I found results saying that it actually alleviates pain buy they were applying it across the abdomen. I just want support for my hip flexor :-( Hope I dont have to remove the tape for my half marathon tomorrow

    do the colors matter

  • @sarahchalk3801

    @sarahchalk3801

    Jay Lopez - No, they only use different colors for each strip in the video so that (majority of) viewers can easily differentiate which strip is which, and their placements. It can be difficult to tell specifics like that, when only one color tape is used in a demo video. 👍🏻
