KT Tape: Ankle Stability
Спорт
This application can be used for a variety of ankle issues including ankle sprains, stretched ligaments, inflamed tendons, or general ankle weakness. The added support will give you the confidence and support during the rehabilitation phase of an injury as well as the stability and pain relief during activity.
Ankle injuries can happen a number of different ways. They can occur during an acute injury, or a sudden rolling or twisting of the ankle. These types of injuries generally involve great pain and swelling. Typically acute injuries are inversion ankle sprains wherein the foot rolls to the inside while stepping on an uneven surface such as a curb, hole, or root. The first strip applied will help to keep the foot everted and decrease your tendency to suffer another sprain. The second and third strips provide excellent proprioceptive stability.
Overuse or chronic ankle injuries occur overtime and are often the result of over training or training in poor conditions such as inappropriate footwear, uneven or dense surfaces, or simply too much too soon. These injuries are characterized by inflammation and are generally the result of other injuries. The stability provided by this application allows these inflamed tendons and ligaments to rest and avoid further injury.
Ankle instability or weakness can lead to chronic sprains and tearing of ligaments and tendons and lead to other injuries. Unlike traditional ankle braces, KT Tape provides support that is very comfortable and allows you to have a greater range of motion. This application also helps to provide support without limiting your range of motion or decreasing your blood flow.

The tape is one time use. You leave it on for multiple days at a time. And the colors don't mean anything. They are just colors.

I don't normally comment on stuff like this, but this video (and KT Tape) absolutely saved my ankle. I've had two really bad sprains on the same ankle in which I've torn some ligaments, been on crutches multiple times and even a boot a few times. Usually I can only go play tennis for about 30 min before my ankle is killing me and feeling unstable. Decided to give this stuff a try and I put this stuff on this morning, just like the video advises, and went out to play tennis as normal. Wow! This tape stabilized my ankle well enough that I played 4 1/2 hours of competitive doubles and still doesn't hurt. What a difference this tape makes! Kudos for making a great a product and publishing these videos to help this weekend warrior feel young again!

I'm a gymnast and this has saved my life!(not literally) I have very weak ankles and knees and this works wonders!
Usually these are truly informative, but this one could benefit from both correct camera angles to show exactly where the tape is being applied all over the ankle, not just from one side and decent lighting as half of it is blocked out by shadow.
In the 5 or so years of using this awesome product, it never occurred to me to rip the paper instead of trying to pick the KT off the edge of the paper.
I just completed a 1/2 Marathon after spraining my ankle (from a fall) two weeks ago. I taped both of my ankles using this method and ran in Hoka One One's and was able to finish the race with minimal pain. Thank you! In addition my sister has posterior tibialis syndrome and using this taping method got her swelling down significantly along with some Chinese Herbs and acupressure

The best damn KT Tape video instruction for effective ankle tape application. Instruction pace and self application demo is perfect
It's not going to limit movement. It will provide you with support and stability like a brace but it won't restrict movement. It's going to support your ankle and help keep it from rolling in, but you will still have full range of motion. Let us know how it goes!

Absolutely spot on. Even after applying the tape I can feel the extra stability.
Yes. This is the KT Tape Pro. The Pro tends to stick better to feet because feet sweat a lot and the Pro is much more sweat resistant.

Just got done applying tape to my daughter's ankles. Hoping this helps with the pain and swelling! She stays active, but before this past Christmas she sprained both of her ankles and was in boots for nearly 2 months. She has had issues with swelling and pain since then. Hoping this helps her!

Yes, run or kickbox with the tape on. It should help with stability without compromising range of movement or comfort.
Thank you! This works SO well for me...i can't comprehend why, but if i can walk, i dont care. I had a horrible ankle break (blunt trauma) years ago, and ongoing sprains ever since. When I tape this way i am all good. Yay!
Yes. The tape is designed for functionality. Use it before, during and after your training.

I know that this is an outdated video, but about 6-7 years ago, I kept having bouts of plantar fasciitis, and achilles tendonitis and was having to sit and do nothing, for sometimes a week at a time, while soaking in hot epsom salt water and alternately icing it. It worked but took time. Without the tape and just a brace, I was practically immobile, and it would come back. I happened upon these videos and bought some kt tape., I did use it with a brace for a few days, maybe a week. It worked really well and I could stay busy while it was doing it's job. I probably wore it longer than I needed too, about a month, but wanted to make sure my ankle was healed. I still have ankle weakness but not so bad that I have to stop and use the tape again. It didn't seem to matter if I got the tape wrong a few times, or if it came off sooner than later. It usually lasted about 3 days, average. I liked the regular tape better than the Pro. It didnt make my ankle stiff like an ace bandage, brace, or other sport tape. It also "cured" my tennis elbow and my trigger finger, or rather my trigger thumb a year or 2 later. They, at least weren't at the same time. At my age, I was glad that these were my worst ailments and could be treated by myself. Now at about 5-6 years older, the joints and knuckles of my hands and wrists are terribly swollen and arthritic, so I went straight to my kt tape. I guess that Arthritis being different from a sprain or fluid swelling, the video regular wrap style didnt' work as well. I experimented with different wraps and after a week or so found one that works. It kinda looks like thin skeletal fingers, I cut one strip into 3 strips, for my index, middle, and ring finger, then leave about 1-2 inches uncut, to anchor to the back of my hand and wrist, then continue to cut the rest into 3 strips, to go around my wrist, and up my forearm, then I cut and wrap other strips for my pinkie and wrist, to cross where the pain is and around my wrist for carpal tunnel.. I read that the tape needs to cross where the pain is most. and also that the tape promotes better bloodflow to the area and faster healing. I do get some strange looks. But it works! I'm not sure if arthritis will heal or how long it will stay pain free this time tho. Edit: The adhesive is a little rougher on my older skin too. But not too bad.
I did this for agility camp because I had hurt my ankle and it's amazing!
The 360 camera rotation around the ankle needs to happen throughout the video, not just after it's been completed! It's not easy to self-apply while looking at the same angle, half blocked by her foot and half in shadow.
This guy is so motivating!
Great information! Thank you for your video
@TheCarrot993 it's just a good idea to avoid touching the adhesive because once you touch it, some of your skin cells will stick on it making it harder to stick to the part of your body where you really need it. It's less of an issue with KT Tape Pro.
Great, this taping helped for ankle pain, thanks :)

Sure. That may possibly decrease the amount of time the tape will stay on because of the added impact, depending on the activity. But for just walking around the house it should be just fine.

Each strip is 10 inches long. There are 20 strips per roll. Hope that helps!
You're welcome!
Very difficult to get it on right the first few tries. I had to watch it at 0.75x the speed in order to get it closer without pausing (still had to, of course). Having the mirror version would have definitely helped.
This was very help full my son got a small injury on that area now walking better
Do I just apply it onto the areas, or must it be wrapped a certain way. I'm a competitive figure skater and used to play field hockey during that time I sprained my right ankle 6 times and my left 4 times so I always have pain even after rehab.Skating is all about bending knees and ankels. The pain is on talus. You should be fine. The application will look different due to the size of your feet. But unless you are near 7 feet tall the 10 inch strips should work fine for you. It will look different on a larger foot. If you don't feel like it's giving you the support you need you can get our uncut tape on our website.
If you go to our website we have a store locator that will tell you which locations carry the Pro.

Is this taping useful for a enverison sprain. I was running a 1500m at Sydney Olympic Park Athletics Centre and my foot clipped the metal a long the inside and the pain is in the bone on the inside of the foot near the arch
I just purchased KTtape pro and applied it (correctly I think!) It's very comfortable to wear, and does not feel as restrictive as normal sport tape, does this imply less support?
It does go under the foot below the ankle bone. If this application isn't giving you the relief you need visit our "ask an expert" forum on our website and describe your injury and they can get you a customized application.
Does this strapping give support toward inner and outter ankle? Thank you
That's correct. You'll likely lose the hair either way. I recommend the less painful way which is to trim it back first.
Idk why but my heart almost stopped each time she peeled the tape fast when she had to leave a bit of the paper on still
I usually have ankle sprains...3-4 a year. This time I'm having a nice rest and having my ankle nice and inmovilized. It's been 15 days since the strain and now I'm thinking on use kt taping. Is it any good for stabilizing my ankle or better use rigid taping?
saved my ankle in soccer games!
Which directions does this taping method limit the ankle from moving? i.e. Rolling in or out on the foot / keeping the ankle from pointing(extension) when pushing off the foot while walking?

I sprained my deltoid ligament in my ankle, and am wondering if there is a different taping method that is recommended for the medial part of the foot/ankle?
Hi, is this applicable to both eversion and inversion sprains by any chance? Thanks!
Best stuff!
Hi KT tape/Anyone else with experience.... I had a trimalleolar ankle fracture almost 2 years ago, and had surgery to repair it (2 rods, 5 pins). The break has been repaired, and my ortho has cleared me for all exercise, though I still have all my hardware. The ankle does still swell & get sore around the area where the hardware is. I typically wear an ankle brace for support when I run and lift, but it is rather cumbersome, and was hoping to try the KT tape instead, and I was just wondering is this the taping method you would recommend for that type of support. Thanks!
I twisted my ankle in cross country last year TWICE so is it good to take KT TAPE to support my ankle or it wouldn't do anything!!! Thanks for the answer!!!
We have a partner in the area. They are called Sun and Sand Sports. You can purchase the tape on their website.
I see you have two methods for a sprained ankle. Is this the best way to tape an ankle or the other video?
What's the difference between this style of tape vs standard athletic tape and pre wrap? Especially when taping up for something like soccer or Football?
