KSP2: Duna vtol shuttle

Ойындар

Normally, i would have went for an SSTO for this sort of mission, but due to no robotics/cargobay bug, space shuttle made more sense. Hopefully, either a mod or a patch will fix this in the near future :P
Ive also included little ''tutorial'' sections breaking down why i did the things i did along with how ive done them. Lemme know if thats something you want to see more of :)
Since this vid took a fair bit longer to make then my other ones, you guys had to wait a bit longer as well. But i hope it was worth it :P

    Really cool design. I've found the shuttle style space planes to be the most fun for me. Except I like to try and make them capable of a runway takeoff. Which I've managed to get to work on all but the largest designs. I think 3 XL cargo bays is my design that was just too much for any of the landing gear in the game. I was able to make it work with large rover wheels but it was definitely a strange design.

    I should do more shuttles tbh, not having to worry so much about drag is very good for more outlandish designs :P That sounds like a pretty insane build xD i cant imagine having to use rover wheels for a plane.

    Dude, that is EPIC level engineering! I've been avoiding SSTOs in KSP 2 so far, because even rockets are tricky enough with all the glitches and kraken attacks. To build what you built... man, I'm impressed! I love that stall speed and I love how well balanced it is on the single lift engine. I'm waiting for my replacement new processor to arrive (long story), once that gets here, and after this Wednesday's patch, I think I must start building SSTOs...

    I would suspect the engine spazing is due to the engine root being to close to the center of gravity. KSP uses the orientation of the part root to the CG to determine vector direction.

    To fix the vector bug you can set the gimbal limit to 0 on the vector. I think that there's no point having gimballing VTOL engines unless they are away from the center of mass and have 2 or more balancing them.

    With that out of the way, for Mars landings (KSRSS) I usually pitch up till velocity becomes low enough to handle, then start to do a smooth butterfly burn (as i call it) and powerland. The craft stays lighter that way and lets you spend less kerbucks. Fly safe ;)

    Hmm, did you do anything special to prevent the vector in the cargo bay from generating drag since cargo bays don't shield parts?

    Dont think there is much you can do about it atm. This thing is an absolutely brick aerodynamically, thats the main reason why i went with a shuttle vs an ssto.

    I love your chanel and designs, but I think your chanel name "Kerman von braun" is really critical. Werner von Braun was a rocket science pioneer, yes but he also was a horrible nazi.

  • @Kerman_von_Braun

    @Kerman_von_Braun

    Жыл бұрын

    he also spear headed the US space race for ~15 years as the lead engineer and was largely responsible for icons like the Saturn V. I dont think its very fair to label him as a nazi and call it a day. My personal take is that he really didnt care who he worked for, be it Germany or US, as long as he could further man's exploration of space. There was no way he could secure any funding or do much of anything if he went against the grain, so siding with who ever was willing to fund him seems like the logical play. Realistically, nearly all new technology comes from weapons research, and that hasnt really changed to this day, since thats where the money is. Especially when it comes to the absolute financial black hole of rockets.
