    Explanation: if you put a part under a rocket engine like what Matt did in this video, the rocket won't move because the thrust goes nowhere, like pushing a car from the inside.

    Each section of the "snake" needs slightly more thrust than the one below it. That will keep it straight and keep the lower stages from crashing into the upper stages and blowing the whole thing up.

  • @jarno_de_wit

    @jarno_de_wit

    Жыл бұрын

    Really, only the top most section would need more thrust than the rest. This alone will be enough to keep the entire snake in tension, and thus prevent the into-self-crashing, although you would need to be somewhat careful with your launch sequence to make sure the tension doesn't change too rapidly.

    KSP part attachment is functionally a tree -- every part has one "parent" part, but can have many "child" parts. So flipping over your tri-couplers does allow you to make it LOOK like the structure is connected to both tanks above it, but the tri-coupler will only ever attach to one part "above" it.

    I have an idea! When you start your snake make sure that the thrust is distributed from the top down. I mean so that the rocket on top always has more thrust than the one below it, but just by a small amount. If that all makes sense lol

  • @kelvin1316

    @kelvin1316

    Жыл бұрын

    Still wouldn't work if the engines are inside. Effectively the thrust trying to push the rocket up is also pushing "down" on the top of the segment below. As someone else said, it is like trying to move a car forward while sitting in the rear seat and pushing on the drivers seat.

  • @brandonblanc2353

    That's a good point, I didn't think about that lol

  • @pietrolocatelli33
    @pietrolocatelli33 Жыл бұрын

    To make a high and snake-like rocket you must distribute the weight downwards and the thrust upwards, meaning that the most weight is at the bottom and the most thrust is at the top. It doesn't need to be a big difference but you surely can't have the same of each at each end. You either have to put a little more thrust at the top than at the bottom (it has to be reduced gradually going down) or you have more weight at the bottom than at the top (also has to be reduced gradually but going up this time) otherwise the snake will fold on itself and go crazy instead of going straight up

  • @Anddiew3122
    @Anddiew3122 Жыл бұрын

    Hey Matt, a few suggestions: First, you're putting floor below your engines, so your engines are basically doing nothing. To make them actually do work, they needs to be outside of your rockets. Second, putting engines in every segment of your worm isn't the most stable, I would put all my engines on the top segment, so that they basically drags the entire snake up. It's kinda like a noodle. A noodle can be lifted up but not pushed up cuz it will just bend over.

    i love how he tries to use a vacuum engine at sea level, amd is surprized its thrust is too low

  • @moriakpotato
    @moriakpotato Жыл бұрын

    The mouth was pretty impressive. Some engines are meant to be used in vacuum only, such as the Poodle. If Vac. thrust is much higher than ASL thrust, then it is one of those engines. Changes made on platform/runway such as staging, max. thrust, break power, etc. will only apply to that one launch. They will not be saved when you revert to VAB/SPH. If you do those changes while in VAB/SPH, then they will be saved for any subsequent launch. You cannot attach boosters to two decouplers. Everything attaches only at one place/node (fuel ducts and struts are exceptions). Attach booster to decoupler slightly higher than the middle of the booster (so that the booster's top will be pushed away from the rocket when decoupled) and then strut both the top and the bottom of the booster.

  • @MegaGullas
    @MegaGullas Жыл бұрын

    Having launch towers on every side was just causing problems. It would work better to just have them on one side, but having a launch tower per segment, to minimize the stretching, could also help the snake work.

    4:50 yeah technically (if you do an optimal flight) you could get this thing to orbit with all that ∆V... You need in theory only 3400m/s! 5:48 always control your stage Matt 6:55 that's because it's a Vacuum engine and on sea level it's not so good (hence you have only 800+m/s) 14:20 tip to see if it can get off: in the VAB just click on the stage in the right where there is/are the engine/s and look for TWR (it must be >1 to actually lift off)

    I’m shit at explaining things but I’ll give it a go: Multi-connecting parts don’t connect to more than one connection when placed, so triconnectors will only connect to the first part and then you have to connect something directly do it (snapped) otherwise you have to strut them together. Think of it as the game can only figure out parts in a line or diverging lines. Trying to connect the end of two lines together requires strutting.

    Matt, for the love of god you need to do 4 things to make this happen, turn on the debug menu, turn off heat damage, i think you can turn off collisions too and for good measure, turn kerbal's gravity down

    It will never work, if there is a part of the rocket below the thruster you'll rip the rocket apart before you impart any upwards force.

    for the external seat idea at around 4 minutes, you have to go into the crew tab in the vab as it doesn't automatically assign kerbals to the external control seat - hence the error

    about the story time, but isnt a (strong shape) just a triangle if you connect everything with straight lines (like this /oIo\) ? its just a tall triangle if you do it like that, strengh confirmed example: /\ / | \ / | \ /O_____O\
