KRONOS LS artists first impressions

Музыка

KORG UK invited some of their most influential and talented artists to try the new KRONOS LS. As these hard working musicians are using a mixture of all KRONOS models, we were particularly interested to find out how the light scale keyboard compares to their current rig and what difference it might make to their performances.

I cannot understand for a second why Korg did not make a 73 or 76 note version of the Kronos LS! It seems to me that a lighter touxh or synth style keybed would be ideal for a 6 octave instrument. If there was one, I would jump on it! After all the 88 key LS weighs less than the 6 octave piano weighted Kronos! A 73 or 76 key LS would be a superb giggable choice or for someone without a huge studio. The 61 key version is not quite enough for an instrument with this versatility and the piano options. The old roland XP80 had synth style keys, 76 of them and was quite light for instance. Oh I do wish I had bought one of those when new!

That's interesting! If the 61 key Kronos is good enough Adam Wakeman then it's good enough for me! The son of the great Rick, whose 1973 album I' listening to right now. The one that made him leave Yes! No Kronos on that double LP! I like light action keyboards. Most pianos I don't like except our old upright at home that is too light for most pianists probably but perfect for me.

Korg aren't stupid, I guess they did their market research before finalising the spec on the this. I'm guessing that they found that most people don't require aftertouch. Surprising really as it's a deal-breaker for me. I couldn't be without it. For touring, this would have been an ideal replacement for my heavy 88key Triton Studio that I use along with my 61 key Kronos. Korg, would adding aftertouch really have added that much cost to this top-end keyboard?

  • @HornetBojan

It has aftertouch, but you have to set in manually, every time, for each sound, of course you can save the sound with all the parameters including "aftertouch" setings ... :) I think so. I tried it once and it worked ... I'll try again and get back to you:)) Just in case ...

Dear artists, do you know any other sounds besides the pianos and the organs? Dear Korg, why does all the demos of Kronos, a workstation with a huge style range, make the instrument position itself as only a "tradition" oriented? Perhaps it makes sense to invite not only the old rockers and jazzmen for presentations, but also people with more modern views on music?

The only thing I do NOT LIKE about the KRONOS LS is the SUPER BRIGHT LED LIGHTS that are on the TOP end of the BUTTONS and they are super bright white lights that if you are playing in a darkened scene with out FULL LIGHTS SHINNING down on the keyboard you won't be able to see anything. THOSE LIGHTS should have had a way to turn them down or OFF. TO BRIGHT. Its really making me frustrated because I cannot use it in the dark. Only solution is to have a 2 tier keyboard set up and put led strip lights on the bottom of the top keyboard and have light shine down on top of the KRONOS LS 88. Does any body else find these super bright led lights a problem ???? I have heard from several people already that agree KORG should have made it to where we have full control over the BRIGHTNESS of those LED LIGHTs. But they said you cannot do any thing to them>. ONLY THE SCREEN is allowed to be dimmed.

I'm not usually one for piling on the pissing and moaning, but yeah, for the PRICE, this thing is a fail for not having aftertouch. I have the Kronos 61 (which I love), and when I heard about this, I was button click away from upgrading until I saw "no aftertouch". No point in having a keybed so much better suited for synths and organs, at a "not cheap" price, and then no aftertouch. I'm really curious who made that call at Korg. I think I'd find them another job.

rhizospere, i compleatly disagre as most synthasists would, its the total reverse its esential to have a. t. on a synth and not neccecery on a piano, on a synth you need to be able to get a nice a.t. vibrato, which you never need on a piano [ would sound awfull ], your thinking backwards mate, well thats mho, and i own the kronos 2 with the latest firmware uptate with quike split/layer feature.cheers. carl

for 30min propably no one. For 3-4 hours...think again. When touring weight is a problem, now you can have full scale keyboard at almost the same weight as the 61 version. Too bad people say it doesnt have aftertouch but on the other hand i see myself using it instead of the regular 61 i have (i didnt get the 88 cause of the weighted keys, they almost doubled the weight of the 61 version)

Add me to the list of players who comes from an organ background rather than piano. I can (and do) play a semi-weighted keyboard in my project studio, but given the option, give me a waterfall keyboard like this any day - especially for a 3+ hour gig.

I had the 01/Wfd and it was so lo-fi😂. It didn’t even have filter resonance, or any realtime controls, just lots of empty panel space to cook pancakes on. The Kronos is like a Bugatti Veyron in comparison. I could not have even imagined such a powerful and lush synth back in the day.
