2018, and Kronos is stil the world's best synthesizer, no doubt about it. What's so great is the library of 3rd party sounds, which is huge for the Kronos, and can turn your synth from a 2011 version into a 2018 model, as if you just bought this brand new, updated powerhouse. In a way, Korg kinda made a mistake with the Kronos: it's just so powerful and incredible, who would want to buy another synth again? I've had mine 3 years and still have barely touched the surface what this baby can do, and it can do a LOT! The sequencer alone on the Kronos is worth the price, wow!

Updating the Triton LIbraries made me so happy I had my own KORG music room party lol. People often don't understand why a workstation is 'relevant' to us. Because they can do the same in their eyes with software and a laptop. But it just isn't the same. Back when Triton Ex was king - I would have been sooo embarrassed to stand beside the drummer, bassist, two guitarists...with a fricking laptop and a usb plug in. But 2005 was a different age. Today I'm used to the KORG workflow, productivity and having so much all in a box wound to the keys with rh3 piano and all my old Triton favourites? Its so awesome! I can't even tell you. Innovation happens on the stage with friends. Not scrolling yet another mouse and OS in pursuit of the quickest and laziest. I think KORG fans are breed of their own in some respects. It's why I got my drummer a wavedrum and myself a RK-100s. KORG rules :D

Those who are going on about Yamaha synthesizers and plugins really need to get real. Yamaha make fantastic acoustic instruments. That's it. Korg make the world's best synthesizers by a long long way. Those who predominantly use plugins are DJs and those who cannot play musical instruments. There is nothing like being able to play a musical instrument. For a couple of thousand dollars you can own a Kronos and all the creativity will come your way. DJs and those who cant play musical instruments will never understand this instrument. If you cant understand something, keep your comments for the children's playground in which Yamaha synthesizers and plugins operate within. Playing live has been lost because of people who cant play musical instruments. Those who rely on plugins will never understand the imagination that comes with being able to play at the professional level and this instrument releases that imagination.

Very well said. People are scared to learn about synthesis, so they buy into all these gimmicks that allow the synth to play for you, programmed by musicians who do know how to make music, and sold to those wanna be musicians who still can barely read music and have yet to master one of Bach's 15 part Inventions. If you want toy, but a Yamaha or Casio, it will sound good, but not because you are talented or put in the time to learn how to play. If you are a real musician, save up and buy a real pro synth: the Kronos is world's best, it just can't get better, I don't see how!

Well, at least this video answered one question that has not anywhere else. That the touchscreen itself functions as the pads that used to be offered on the M3, Oasys and Karma. This will also mean that since the chords can be programmed in, that a midi pad device should function as well.

I have a Roland E60 Music Workstation at home and am thinking about the Korg Kronos. However, one question I have is can you use the Korg Kronos as an Arranger workstation like the Roland E60 where you play the chords with the left hand and melody with the right, and if so how do you do it? Is that what Karma is for or is there another way to do it?

Does it still take nearly 3 minutes for the Kronos to boot up? I spoke with a Korg rep regarding this issue and his solution was to buy a back up Kronos just in case of an emergency! I've been a Korg fan from way back, but the absurd boot up time was a deal breaker for me and I got a Kurzweil PC3 which sounded just as good booted up in a fraction of the time. Don't get me wrong! I have nothing but respect for Korg and its huge contribution to music technology and synthesis over the past 5 decades. However I'd be constantly dreading an accidental power shut down during a gig when playing this instrument!

The Kronos sounds awesome. I know because I have one. But I had to replace it two times because of the damn malfunctioning keybeds. Don´t know if the X version is better in that regard. The second anoying thing is the sequencer, it´s is inferior to the M3 and Krome one but has 16 audio tracks. The UI is still 1995 stuff :( . Maybe Korg could invest and catch up with iOS? There is more to workflow than using a big color display.

Let's redirect the question a bit as I too find myself in limbo. What does the OASYS offer that the Kronos doesn't? I've heard both and, to be honest, there is a certain "bigness" that the OASYS seems to deliver that I simply dont hear in the Kronos. I cannot explain why. Since you own both, perhaps uyou can elaborate on your experiences. (Granted, its very subjective and depends on tastes.)

Dirty Donki, anyone who sells his Kronos, unless he broke all his fingers and can never play keyboards again, is selling the world's best and most powerful synth, and what will he trade it for that could be anywhere near as good? $200 for a Kronos? Tell me where, I'll buy 2 more for that price! Mine is 3 years old and I wouldn't take less then $4,000 for it, it's loaded with orchestral/choir/new synth sounds that are priceless. Saying the Kronos is just too much for the average person is like saying you can only sleep in one bedroom at a time, so it's a waste to buy a palace just because you're rich! The fact after 3 years I'm STILL learning how to use this powerhouse is not reason to sell! It's reason to keep, as it will still be a powerhouse for the next 10 years to come! Find me better - you can't!

Now that's what should be coming. Comments about reliablity make me hold back, despite the awesome acoustics. This is where my wallet could be hit hard. Has anyone got any comments about aftersales service ? In Australia ? I've been thinking about a simple reliable keyboard, not too much hardware and an operating system just for music synthesis. There are some amazing sound cards around now. Why has'nt someone taken the initiative and done this ? Maybe it's hard getting the sample sounds free.

@jordmann1 What I think you mean is either bending or sliding. As a guitar teacher I'm acustomed to knowing most techniques on a guitar. The kronos does both from what I have seen by using the xy joystick for bends and vibrato effects and the ribbon may be used for slides. I'm not 100% sure but I imagine that's how it works. Yamaha keyboards are beginners keyboards at best and not for a realistic sound. They're are plasticy and not a very proffessional piece of gear.
