KRONE Big X Forage Harvesters

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

In this video Big Tractor Power spends time out in the field with three KRONE Big X self propelled forage harvesters. These three big choppers represent 2,225 horse power in one field. During the video viewers will see these three forage harvesters run side by side to chop a swath of 75 feet of corn and fill 6 ten ton trucks in 8 minutes. This Big Tractor Power video features two 750 horse power Krone Big X V12 forage harvesters powered by Mercedes engines and a 725 hp Krone Big X 700 powered by a MAN engine. See and hear these big machines chop corn 10 rows at a time through out the video.

I ran a big x 1100 during corn, we had 3 1100s and an 1180 but most of the time we would only have 2 or 3 going at a time. My chopper had a bad boot seal in the base of the spout so corn goo would get on the cone and give her over heating issues so my chopper was the slowest of the group, but I had one of the biggest headers. But when we had all 4 working we could clear out a 2 pivot field in a day. And my boss gave me a chance to run his 2019 or so big x 1180 and that machine is a beast when it works right.

About 4 years ago I was at a large dairy farm south central Illinois to see a Krone 500 with I recall a 6 or 8 row header. Farm was using New Holland for years. He did not purchase the demo unit that year. The following year he purchased the next larger Krone with new header. Used one season went back to dealer traded up to next larger machine with either 10 or 12 row header. Over the years the same dealer has sold 5-6 maybe more additional Krone machines in the same dairy area. New Holland machines were being traded for Krone, says something about the name and word of mouth.

Friend of mine who does custom chopping with Deere machines demoed a Krone that had the two engines about ten years ago and said it was unstoppable and could outchop anything. He also mentioned that they seemed to have to work on that machine a lot to keep it going. I don’t believe Krone offers the two engines anymore and that could possibly be why.

They need a lot of power and when time has passed, development has gone forward; They use truck based(?) engines and those are already nearing 800hp here in Eur on the top of the line so no need for twins when one engine alone can pump enough power.

  • @bigtractorpower

Yes silage corn is often raised for tonnage rather than bushels. Years ago corn was corn and often farms chopped their work corn and shelled the best. Today it’s a science to get the best silage to produce the best milk.

The Claas 960 and these Krones are actually chopping on the same farm. The reason they chop higher is that the lower stalk has little nutritional value so they leave it the field. Farms in this area plant sorghum right behind the choppers to chop later in the fall. There is plenty of feed to harvest.
