my great-grand parents were from Akerman / Cetatea Alba / Bilhorod Dniistrovky in Bessarabia. Proud of their heritage too

Probably, but as there was a huge Jewish population of both Poland and Romania, it is as likely that the Klezmer also influenced Romanian music.
